  • Surrounded by Dolphins! A great day on the water fishing out of Whitley Bay on the North East Coast of England. After a slow start I found the fish and had some cracking sport.
    To top it all off I was surrounded by a huge pod of dolphins on the way back in! A really special moment.

    Hi Chris, really good to see back on the game again with such good content. I wonder if you would know and be able to impart any knowledge about boat slipping in the north east. I’m Glasgow based and usually fish for salmon all over the uk, in the last couple of years a friend and I have invested in a strikeliner to use in the sea. This boat only has had a few trips on the Clyde estuary which was fun for the mackerel. I’ve tried so hard to get information on boat slips but keep getting nowhere on information.
    I would be looking at Dunbar to Sea horses as an example if you have any information.
    I’ve also looked at the kayak situation where I’m confident but my friends don’t share my confidence and would rather be a little safer in a boat.
    Any help is welcome and all fish will like you be returned.
    Best Angus

      @onthedropfishing  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Angus, glad you’re enjoying the channel. I know there is access to launch a boat a Beadnell from the beach, and there are several slips at amble, one at Blyth and one at Seaton Sluice (that will put you right next to St Mary’s/Whitley Bay). I don’t have the details for them I’m afraid but there’s a Facebook group called UK Slipway Launch Advice - they’ll be able to point you in the right direction. Alternatively just get a kayak and launch anywhere! Get your mates persuaded! 👍🎣

    • @onthedropfishing
      @onthedropfishing  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ben, for me it’s the “underwater islands” that fish best, basically a spot of shallower water with deeper water on three or ideally four sides. If I can’t find those then I try to drift the length of the drop off but that can be tricky depending on tide and wind. Hope that helps 👍🎣

      I imagine it would take a canny while in your boat Chris, I couldn’t say how long like to be honest. It’s 50 kilometres roughly to Whitley from Hartlepool on the water and about 100 to beadnell as the crow flies. Hope that’s of some use?

  • @clarkkent4683

    You dangle your feet in the water a lot, does the water not go up your legs and in your boots or are you wearing something that keeps you waterproof?

    • @onthedropfishing
      @onthedropfishing  3 роки тому

      That red and black get up I’m wearing is a drysuit, even if I fully submerged myself in the sea only my face and hands would get wet. It’s completely sealed with built in waterproof socks. An essential bit of safety kit for the North Sea.

      I would recommend a drysuit rather than a wetsuit. Wetsuit might be okay in the late summer when the water is at its warmest though. Another advantage a drysuit has over a wetsuit is when you finish you are already dressed and dry underneath it. Just take it off and jump in the car 🚗

      Hi John, it needs to be around 12-14ft long for the sea. The kayak I’m using in this video is a Galaxy Sturgeon MKII, a great, stable and relatively affordable kayak.
