    Super cool vid. Was awesome seeing you go back and change what you said (that's called honesty imo) as the Volvo was just growing on you. The XC90 T8 will do that to most people, you get quickly very attracted to the car, and keep liking it more as you keep driving it. Just so smooth. Was really cool seeing that exactly with you, I think it's a pretty remarkable vehicle. Was just surprised about how you did not feel the power in power mode when flooring it because the 5s are genuine and this thing goes fast when you floor it. But motor has to be warm obviously (it probably was as you seemed to use the combustion one already) and maybe you had too little battery left to have both motors going at the same time (and defo the case if you were on "charge" setting at that time).
    Have to agree with your (second :D ) opinion regarding the B&W audio system, probably the best in the whole industry, as stated by many before and probably rightfuly. It's insane.
    In any case, really enjoyed the video.

    Great review comparing the two cars. I had an XC40 recharge ultimate full electric for close to two years that I just traded in. It was a fun car to drive but winters in Vermont cut the mileage down quite a bit, which was expected, and the UI was extremely buggy. Had to wait for updates that never really fixed any of the problems unfortunately. Volvo makes a fun and safe car and I hope they continue to improve their EV technology.

    Currently drive a Volvo XC40 T5 R Design with the Polestar performance tune from factory....Fun little SUV! However... an XC90 specced just like the one you tested is my dream car! Classy AF with good performance and subtle and simple luxury....timeless design. 👍

    Back in 2017 we owned a new BMW X1, followed by a VW Tiguan R Turbo Diesel. We travelled with both cars across Europe in 2019 & 2020. Then we replaced the X1 with a 2017 XC90 T8 and the VW Tiguan with a VW ID.3 EV . The 2017 XC90 T9 even in 2020 was a ahead of its competition in terms of tech, drive and utility even with a 10.4 KW battery. The car immediately took centre stage in our life. The ID.3 is fun to drive and cheap to run but the kids would not get off the XC 90 for the space, the comfort and the pleasure of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system and no matter how long the drive all of us would get off feeling refreshed and ready to ride again for hours to come. The 7 seats at the back are a heaven send when needing to carry the family kids too and the extra space is a van load when you tuck seats down. When we wanted to replace it, I tested the BMW X5 which I liked but the kids dismissed it but once I test driven the revamped XC90 Recharge it was clear to me I was not ready to let go of the XXC90 in our life. My only gripe is that the Ev range is still not enough at 40 miles. The Range Rover has 70 Miles range, the battery is DC fast chargeable and has rear wheel steering. Only if Volvo would match those features in a revamped version of the recharge i would want anything else

    Love our 2022 XC90 Recharge extended range, but the ride is very stiff around town without the air suspension. We opted for the pleb trim, but got it for about $60k after the tax credit. Also, it throws a check engine light about twice a year (usually on a road trip) and I’ve learned to ignore them as they usually go away. Definitely worth getting an extended warranty if you plan on long term ownership.

    We had a volvo V50 for years and it was great until it was not ;-) Airco broke down and it was too pricy to replace. The Netherlands ( where I live ) is small. Parking spaces are small so when you have a XC90 it tough sometimes here. Great review! I do wonder what would happen with the air quality :P LOL

    Cool video. PHEVs can have compelling use cases for some. I had an Outlander PHEV rental while my work vehicle was in the shop and I really liked it. It was one of the main reasons I considered an EV when it was time to buy, and I got a LRMY.
    To get max efficiency though, drive it in hybrid mode and let it choose when to drive electric, gas, or hybrid based on what the car finds most efficient. Switch to EV towards the end of the drive if you have excess battery capacity to use it all before your trip ends.
    Selecting the drive mode to charge the battery (or even hold charge) will be less efficient than hybrid.
    In fact, review an Outlander PHEV. It's the first mutsubishi I've found compelling in a long time.

    I own a Model Y and a Honda Clarity Touring PHEV (discontinued in 2021😢). I love both but for different reasons. The Tesla is fun to drive, software is amazing blah blah. (Elon’s a jerk but whatever.) The Clarity gets 47 miles on battery and around 320 in HV (only a 7 gal gas tank!), has real leather seats, buttons and knobs where I want them, smooth ride, and no range anxiety on road trips wherever I might decide to drive. The cars complement each other perfectly. In my opinion (and experience) PHEVs are unfairly dissed by the EV crowd. They provide an introduction to EV driving to those whose only experience is an ICE car. It gets them acquainted to home charging and weeks or months between visits to gas stations - at least for those who don’t have insane commutes or weekly road trips. This Volvo is too pricey for me but there are other PHEVs out there that are worth a look. Great review by the way.

    I had a Chevy volt as my entry level ev drug. When you drive about 30 miles a day it’s a shame that you haul around a full tank of gas and an entire engine that isn’t being used. Volvo is coming out with a full ev soon in this size

  • @mikewilloughby5448

    Shouldn’t you also add in the cost of the 18.8kwh you used in the Volvo to the cost per mile? It’s not much but it should be accounted for.

    • @FB-su8er
      @FB-su8er 2 місяці тому

      Yes, after recalculating, Volvo is more like 12.7 c per mile vs Tesla 3.5c per mile. The other variables is wear and tear, oil, mechanical breakdown, etc...overall ICE cars cost more to run than EVs. He did a great job for real case use here, and very useful information if you are considering the Volvo recharge vs other EVs.

    • @myaccount__7269
      @myaccount__7269 2 місяці тому

      That makes no sense. Obviously super chargers will be more $ . LOTS of people have done EXACTLY what you asked . Basically it’s same cost per mile as gas when using super chargers for a road trip. he said this car gets about 28 mpg which is about right for something this size.

    • @callistoscali4344
      @callistoscali4344 2 місяці тому

      @@myaccount__7269 It makes a lot of sense because of what the PHEV is suppose to do, i.e. use only electric range and only occasionally use the gasoline for longer. If one uses the gasoline regularly for PHEV, then don't get a PHEV.

    • @callistoscali4344

    • @myaccount__7269
      @myaccount__7269 2 місяці тому

      @@callistoscali4344 I think you need to do more research on phev vs EV. Also if you are trying to save money by buying a EV or a phev then you are also wrong since EVs often have higher insurance costs, registration costs etc which will destroy any gas " savings". PHEVs are good for people who can't install a level 2 at their house but they might only have a 20 mile commute. So they could run on EV only daily and not use gas. But for roadtrips this will be same cost as gas car basically.

    • @myaccount__7269
      @myaccount__7269 2 місяці тому

      @@callistoscali4344 phev IS about same cost as gas car for road trips. Also EVs ...PHEVs ..ICE...the road trip cost per mile is basically identical. There is no magic fuel type that will save you money when road tripping.
