One Minute Bunkai: Naihanchi Sandan #1

- One Minute Bunkai: This last kata in the Nahanchi series develops a level of "grit" into the fight that illustrates the confidence of the fighter. This move is simple yet requires timing and self control as you are bringing the fight to your attacker the instant he punches you. It is all very close quarters-- typical of Naihanchi. The punch is followed by a control of the arm/elbow as you follow the exact same move in the kata. This easily leads to a takedown. Do not over complicate things that work perfectly and simply.

Superb techniques, as time wears on, bunkai is turning out even better!!! Congratulations on bunkai's staff !!!
Yes you nailed it. Sometimes things are not in order because the order is not really any order. It can be both, sometimes things may work exactly like the kata and other times for example the first part of a sequence will be used but you will finish with a piece from a different sequence. Especially in Naihanchi, all 3 katas are really one fighting system. Naihanchi-Ryu. Everything works and fits with each other.
That really depends on the individual. Altho Judo is a wonderful art (and I love it) it is primarily a sport, it is not a complete martial art like Karate. But that is not to say that someone who only does Judo cannot mimic and replicate many of the things shown here. You could supplement the other techniques on your own by self study or by joining a karate class. But what I show here is not automatically taught by all Karate styles/teachers. Good question, keep me posted.
Thank you for the good work posting these bunkai sensei. It is a credit to you're understanding, and a great resource for all of the karate systems in the world.
Piece of art! Poetry! Love this channel.
Very nice!! Straight forward and to the point
Estimado Jorge, gracias mi amigo. Me agrada mucho que pueda enseñar y compartir.

Good bunkai shown there. Keep up the good job.
That is a fantastic application. So simple and brutal!
Sensei, what is the significance of your patches on the gis?
excellent !
im guessing the low side block in the Kata wouldbe the hammer fist to his jaw. Being kata techniques aren't always in order. Or, what you see is what you get. and some times in reversed order. what looks like a block can be strikes or grappling locks such as the chicken-wing move with the double block
It is the Kyan Family Crest.
That was my goal, to share a little knowledge.
Solid
Event taps with his head count!
I have practiced them for 25+ yrs but formally only 4 yrs so i have a fool for a teacher..Me..every chance i get i try and glean. new techniques for them . I try an use some basic rules or ask my self question..does it work as a block strike or joint lock. how am i being attacked..pushed, grabbed, punched or kicked. if i reverse the move does it work as some other technique. i found a possible joint lock in the first technique of Niahanchi Shodan didn't realize was there because of these Qs
