Thank you for this. I’m watching it after just being stung by a bark scorpion in my bed in Arizona in late April. I almost immediately felt lightheaded and was barely aware of what I was doing, so I called an ambulance. I didn’t want to pass out alone on my floor, and the first video I found warned how deadly an Arizona scorpion could be from some sensational news broadcast in Arizona. One of the ambulance crew hunted the scorpion for me, he was a pro at this. He pulled out a squirming angry little guy from under the dresser with his scissors, which made the policeman run for the door. Since I was breathing fine, they offered me a cold compress and told me to take aspirin and Benadryl. The sting feels like the injection spot is on fire with a throbbing pain. Visually, you can’t tell where the sting is. I just started watering some plants outside a month ago, but haven’t seen other bugs yet. A garden isn’t worth this! I had one in my laundry 2 weeks ago, made me scream in a laundry mat like a lunatic. I found another in the glass around the ceiling light bulb.
Haha, see I came across this video because last night I got stung in my bed. Also live in Arizona. My apartment complex always has scorpions so we find them all the time under the couch, on the counters, in our pantry, in the bathtubs/sinks. My roommate has found a few in her bed but we've never been stung. Last night though I guess it was my lucky night 😂 I get the light headedness, for me I'm still light headed and it feels like I have a bunch of pressure in my head and my face is all tingly and numb. My leg (which was the area that got stung) is fine. Last night a bunch of inflamed skin and irritation but it's not even hot to touch nor hurts at all.

We have a ton of them in Vegas as well. Mainly due to them hitching rides on trees transported here from AZ. They weren’t native to here, but they are everywhere in Vegas now
Thank you for this video. My daughter is 11 years old and likes to pick up flat rocks to stack when we hike. I was starting to have a very strong anxiety that she would "get attacked by an aggressive bark scorpion and die." I am glad to know that while it is a risk, a scorpion is not going to climb over the top of the rock just to sting her, and that if she does get sting it won't be a death sentence. What I saw on our local ABC news was not as informative and really made me feel overly paranoid. Thanks for setting me straight!
My BFF and I would go visit her parent's home they bought for retirement near Bullhead before they were living there full time. First thing we did when we got there was "scorpion patrol" to find and remove all the little guys that had managed to get into the house. I had the kitchen tongs and my BFF would stand by the door, ready to open it when I had one so I could fling it outside. :)
I live in Las Vegas and got stung one morning. I was heating up a hot pocket in the microwave and standing over my dog food and thought I stepped on a small bit of it. It was actually a Bark Scorpion and I kept my foot on the stinger for a couple seconds before realizing that I was going to have my next 3 days ruined lol. Worst pain of my life. This is a great video and I just wanted to say my story.
I got stung last night washing dishes in Vegas. It was swimming in the dish water. FInger is still dead, numbing and throbbing pain with electrical shocks that crept up the arm and now entire body, but more diluted. Can't walk or focus eyes without dizziness. Hope this is normal and will go away, as you say, in 3 days.
Just moved to southern AZ. Definitely hiring pest control right now. Backlights are gonna be here Saturday and then I will go hunting. Hunting for monster scorpions. Now my only concern are Javelinas, the scourge of the southwest, as I've heard them called.
I lived in the Phoenix valley for 11 years. Seeing bark scorpions was nearly an every day occurrence. On average I would catch 3 in the house, everyday. I was under the impression back then that their sting was deadly. Funny how your buddy passed on testing that out for the camera. I dont blame him. Another thing that was common to see was the wind scorpion/camel spider/sun spider. I guess it has several names. They almost look like scorpions, minus the tail. But have a set, I mean TWO SETS of scissors for mouth parts. They look like they can do some real damage with them. I saw one on the flight line on Luke AFB one night. I was getting a good look at him, and he was getting a good look at me. I poked it the face with a big screw driver (about 1 foot long. And very thick shaft. It attacked the screwdriver, and I could feel it biting it. It then came after me. I just walked around it, but it followed me. It kept following me for several parked aircraft. I would climb into the F-16, do my checks, and it would be sitting there waiting for me. After the fourth aircraft I said enough of this, and he met the Bussines end of my boot. But it took sever times. Little booger was tough.
A few years back I went camping in flagstaff with my cousin and after we set up camp we started cooking some stew, at one point we went back to the tent to grab our guns because we heard a mountain lion scream not too far off from where we were. As my cousin was pulling his revolver out of his bag, I pointed out a camel spider on the floor by his foot and he panicked and sent a 158 grain .357 magnum bullet through it and into the floor of the tent, we both caught a little shrapnel from the impact on our shins. Then I noticed this damn thing was still crawling around with less than half it’s body intact and it managed to crawl it’s way out of the tent.
@@SG-ds8pr My dad passed away in 2008. I went to his funeral , in Florida. There were a few dozen people at the ‘Irish wake’ afterwords. It was held outside, it was a gorgeous day. There were umbrella tables set up. You know, the kind like you find at outdoors restaurants. A round table, seats five or six people. With an 8 foot diameter umbrella in the middle. I was standing the edge of one of the the umbrellas, talking to one of my Dads friends. When what looked to me looked like a Bark Scorpion dropped on his shoulder. I stared at it for a second, I told the gentleman, “excuse me, I got to got rid of this.” He looked confused, obviously he didnt know it was there. I reasched on and swept it of onto the ground, and stomped it. “What was that?”, He said. “Just a scorpion.” And was finishing our conversation. They guy looked down, and did a double take. “Uh… where did that come from?” I told him probably from the umbrella. It was probably full of them while it was in storage. He slowly looked up, as he inched out from under the umbrella. Several other people saw him, and did the same thing. Just the scorpion. But most people fear them. Was the first scorpion in Florida I heard of. Being from Phoenix and southern California, I have had MANY in my houses through to 20 years I lived in the deserts Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. So to me it was reflex to wipe and stomp. I never saw a white guy get so white before. 😏
Just encountered my first scorpion in my laundry basket. First I saw like 2 little orange things and couldn't tell, then I turn my pants inside out and behold, 2-3 inch scorpion with a few more orange babies with it. Got rid of the pants lol....thank you so much for this amazing information.
In the heat in broad daylight like that in the beginning of the video, you must have had it in shade in a cooler place, because they usually freak out in the Sun when it's that hot, because the Sun absolutely will cook them.
Great Video! I have lived in the valley for 3 years now and just saw my first Bark Scorpion yesterday. It was hiding under a deflated inflatable pool I hadn't got around to properly putting away. My 2 year old stepped on the thing and freaked out. We thought for sure he had been stung. but could not find a puncture point or any swelling. He was pissed for a bit, but then went back to his normal self in like 15 minutes, just scratching at his foot every now and then. The thing is, we pay for professional pest control so we were pretty shocked to find this critter.
One quick burst with a can of carb cleaner and they're completely stunned for several seconds, more than enough time to smash them with an old paint stir. Works every time, and will sometimes help bring them out of wall cracks if it's sprayed in at the right angle.
I got stung by a scorpion in the Grand Canyon in a rafting trip. I had climbed out of the raft and grabbed a rocky ledge getting out of the raft when it stung me. Fortunately we were at Havasu Falls, so I soaked my hand in the cool water and it helped a lot!
Not sure which video it was that you mentioned where the Bark Scorpion is found, you mentioned, Arizona - their hometown, California, Baja California and New Mexico. I live in Las Vegas, and everyone knows of the Bark Scorpion, they have made their way here via palm trees that are brought here to Nevada from Arizona. I had the pleasure of being stung by one two days ago. Painful, and felt like an electrical shock. It was in my kitchen. Pain and discomfort lasted 2 days. Not pleasant. Just wanted to remind you to please add Nevada to list of where these beasts reside. Great videos, very informative.
My friend had someone dump their pet scorpion on her when she only agreed to babysit and they haven’t answered her in months. She has major arachnophobia. We identified it was an Arizona Bark scorpion. I’ve been trying to research to my fullest extent about these critters so I can take it off her hands and this poor creature could have proper care. Im a geologist, The first year I was in AZ I had a tarp over some equipment at night, well it rained just a little so the next morning i went out and pulled the tarp off. I got stung on the forearm by a Bark Scorpion and let me tell you it was painful!! The pain went all the way to my finger tips like fire, for 2 days i couldnt use that arm so when we see them I usually pick them off with my .22 pistol. its fun, a friend and I will go out with out .22s at night and see who can pick off the most lol those little buggers are tough to shoot so its a fun challenge
Wow! Yeah, a wet tarp is like MTV Cribs for scorpions. Sorry to hear that you got stung! That's definitely one of the most creative ways I've heard to kill them 😄
You really don’t need to use a .22 for them. I use a CO2 airsoft pistol and it’s fairly easy to pick them off at 10-15 yards and you don’t have to worry about ricochets at closer distances.
Dude you have a infestation though. There are probably dozens and dozens tiny baby ones under the gravel. They dont glow as well. Also Ithink that the Az Bark is the most venomous in all of North America. Edit: You did say that they are the most venomous in the Americas.
My new house in Vegas had about 15 of these in a small part of the backyard. It's hard because we have about half and care of land so it will be hard to spray them all.
While training at Fort Irwin, I would wake up each morning after sleeping on the ground and there was always several scorpions underneath my bedroll. Oddly, I was never stung by any of them.

I have lived in Arizona for fifty years in the Phoenix area and never found scorpions in the house until just recently, so I don't know where he lives, but none of my friends have ever talked about finding them either.
@@islandoflostballoons6528 So true! I moved to Queen Creek from Gilbert about a year ago and haven't seen a single scorpion in all that time. Some areas seem to be infested with them while others have few to none. But even in my old neighborhood, I'd meet neighbors who'd been there for 10 or more years that hadn't seen any until I took them out at night with a black light. So as long as they are not getting in your house it's possible to have them in or near your yard and never know...unless you go looking.
If bugs can see in uv then the scorpion glowing basically turns it into natural bug zapper. If it attracts your food then it seems obvious why it's an advantage
Cy-Kick is good stuff. Make sure you follow it up with DE in VERY SMALL MEASURES. If your yard looks like a Hollywood dead body outline, you’re doing it wrong.
They live in west texas as well, grew up with these guys, and the striped ones, don't get the giant hairy ones though. It's not uncommon to find a hoard of them around indoor pools, literally sweep the desd up in a pile in the winter time. There sting is never forget I can tell you that. I now know what happened to me as a kid, the striped ones don't climb very well, and if you don't pay attention to the stripe, or lack of one, you can easily capture a bark scorpion, thinking it can't climb, put it in a shoe box and fukaroundfindout in the middle of night when you roll over
I believe the species of bark scorpion in Texas would be the closely related Centuroides vittatus not C. sculpturatus, and there are 3 very different color variations of C. vittatus of which one (pantheriensis) looks almost indistinguishable from C. sculpturatus.
I got stung in the hand last night while sleeping. First time after nearly 20 years living in AZ. The stinger felt like a needle and the bite site will go numb and tingly at the same time. Also... Blind stick is a new one. lol It's called a cane or mobility cane if you wanna be technical.
I got stung by one of these and can hardly remember the experience (I was 14) but it was very painful from what I do remember My entire body was shaking and a lot of cramping was happening My eyes were shaking and my mouth was swelling and getting all foamy -1000/10 would not recommend
I barehand them, all species. I use a popsicle stick to apply pressure to the scorpion and keep it from escaping, then it will lift it's metasoma (tail) and I'll grab them by it at the joint between the telson and last segment of the tail. Also scorpions glow for many reasons, the glow acts as a kind of sunscreen as well as tell the scorpion that it's caught in the open in broad daylight. It can also be a type of prey attractant, the moon reflects uv light and the scorpion glows it acts just like airport beacon to moths and flying insects that scorpions wouldn't normally have access to. You should see giant desert hairys hunting white lined sphinx moths, they're amazing at snagging those huge moths right out of the air.

We didn't have any in our back yard for the first 15 years we lived there and then I decide to make a fire pit and buy a half of cord of wood each winter and now they are everywhere in the summer. I personally like to use a blowtorch to kill them on the spot. They smell like burnt hair once you cook them!! lol
I use a black light, a broom stick with duct tape on the end (for the ones out of arm's reach) and a pocket knife. I'm not terribly concerned about keeping them alive.
Thanks for the awesome informative video! Does it take a while for the pesticides to work? Before I moved into my home I had it professionally sprayed but noticed a rise in scorpions outside/inside my home. I carry a black light with me everywhere I go now 😅
If you have an infestation of scorpions it will take a while to get rid of them. The pesticides are most effective on the bugs that are the food source for the scorpions, if you can reduce their food source then they will move on. Certain pesticides such as Cy-Kick will kill scorpions but for passive control, it works best with a combination of diatomaceous earth which creates micro cuts in the scorpion's "armor" to allow the pesticide to penetrate.

I think you would be surprised to know the bark scorpions are said to be the best tasting of all species, and some people actively hunt them for human consumption. Fried in butter with some garlic and salt they aren't bad but have a serious crunch. great on a salad! I'm in Nevada and we have a lot of Arizona bark scorpions, I've enjoyed the hunt cook and eat... I didn't have a camera man.
Cats will actually eat them! 😮😮 I saw a cat in my neighborhood playing with one that was trying to sting the cat but apparently couldn't land a sting and the cat eventually ate it. Pretty sure if it did sting a cat it would get sick at least.
Edit: I wrote this comment at the beginning of the video, and see that he said later on much of what I wrote below. lol 🤦🏽♂️ Sealing crevices and cracks in walls, between bricks, under doorways, garage doors, window fitments, plumbing pipe and electrical wire entry points, etc... is one of the top recommendations for scorpion control. Small scorpions (the AZ Bark is small at ~2.5 cm fully grown) can fit through a crack the thickness of a penny; sometimes less for babies/young scorpions. They have the ability to compress their bodies to fit through tight spaces. In the case of the Bark Scorpion, it has a fairly unique skill in that it's quite adept at climbing walls, and can even walk on ceilings a bit. This is often how people get them in their beds... the Bark will walk briefly on the ceiling and drop into the bed from above, from an overhead vent, or find it's way up a blanket or bedskirt that's touching the floor. Anyway, sealing is an excellent preventative way to keep them out of your house, though it is _key_ to know whether you have an infestation beforehand so that you deal with the root source of the problem. Regular, scorpion control specific pest spraying is a must in high scorpion population areas alongside secondary measures like: - Sealing up entry points - Diatomaceous Earth (this white-ish colored crushed up shell "dirt" is like crawling through shards of glass to a scorpion) - Cinnamon (scorpions and most bugs in general don't like the scent of Cinnamon powder or oil and are repelled by it) - Cedarwood Oil (similar to Cinnamon in effect) - Lavender Flower plants and/or oil (the scent/plants also repel bugs) - Cleaning up junk and debris around property (old wood stacks, piles of leaves, dead trees/stumps, thick brush, general trash, etc). Scorpions love this stuff because it is rife with other bugs (aka, scorp food). They love to hunt other bugs. - Cats, chickens, Roadrunners, medium/large lizards, and Black Widows hunt/eat scorpions also and are a natural "pesticide" against them. Sorry for the novel. lol. They're fascinating critters, and tough little dudes. I respect them, but I do not want them on my property at all. Across the road... you go on and live your best life you little dirt lobster... but cross the road and it's 💀 time. lol I'm _very_ thankful that I don't have to deal with Bark Scorpions where I live, but I deal with the Giant Desert Hairy (largest scorpion in North America) and the common Mojave Scorpion regularly out here on our California horse ranch in the summer months. The above methods have worked well for us. I started using these "tactics" 4+ years ago, and it's been 4+ years since we've seen one in the house. And when I do see one outside at night now, they're usually already dead from something listed above. Hope this helps you or anyone else who reads it. :)

Got stung by A Small Yellow One, it Felt Like A Bee Sting Wasn’t very painfull. I’m no longer afraid of Them For myself But I Just Moved into a Small House in the Countryside. The Roof is Full of Scorpions Wish l had a Blow Torch Right about Now..!! They look for Your Heat that’s why they End up in Your Bed..!!

Had some close encounters with some. They’re pretty passive. Still be vigilant. I hired pest control to spray monthly so hopefully I’ll see less and less. I think being around the mountains you’re just naturally going to see them.
definitely not a fan of scorpions, but this was one mega informative and super well done video!!!!! Rattlesnake antivenom is rather expensive too, not quite as bad as the scorpion. So scorpions are about as dangerous as the present virus LOL
I was stung by a bark scorpion 3 days ago, I Nursed myself 100 percent in only 2 Days. I have experienced it. -- MY BROTHER got the experience of the Covid 19 virus. He was in the intensive care unit NINETY SIX days. He was on the HIGHEST level of life support available, a machine that did EVERYTHING for his organs, he was pretty much dead. He pulled through... his lungs are so damaged that they are only at 50 percent capacity. It almost ruined his kidneys, but he got lucky. My brother now still walking with a walker, still recovering and not able to go anywhere or do anything without an oxygen tank, would most likely not agree. My family have experienced both of these situations. SO PLEASE DO NOT comment on things you have not experienced. It is offensive to myself and family and the families of those who lost loved ones, or suffered months while their loved ones are ALONE, suffering in a hospital! not lol.. no... not funny.
Our record from our backyard was 53 in one hunt! We back up to a green belt. I HATE THESE LITTLE DEMONS! We also have them inside our house. I spray every other day.... NO JOKE! I hate them. I was stung one time when I was 19, I did not feel the sting at the time, however, I ended up, hours later with a "target" like a red, hot, giant, wound. It grew to a softball size target on the side of my knee. Later that night, I became very sick, vomiting, sweating, shaking, and dizzy.... it was not fun. I went to my doc, and she walked in and said, "Oh, you met a bark scorpion!" She gave me a shot of a steroid and antibiotics. My doctor said I had a "mild allergic reaction." I hate them, and LOVE TO KILL THESE LITTLE EM-EFFERS!
Yikes! That sounds like an infestation 😱 Hopefully your vigorous spraying will help. Killing off their food source is the most recommended way to get them to move on. Unfortunately, if your neighbors don't do any pest control then they might have plenty of food despite your best efforts. Took me 3 summers to get my infestation under control and I got permission from the neighbors on two sides to spray their yards too. The 3rd neighbor had professional pest control and I almost never saw scorpions on that side of my yard. So a good professional pest control company that specializes in scorpions may be able to help. I moves to Queen Creek a year ago and haven't seen a single scorpion in or near my yard and I have green space on two sides, so either the HOA pest control is great or my neighborhood has not (yet) been infested. So now I have to go into the Sonoran desert to find them just for fun😁
I moved ten minutes from my old house 18 months ago and haven't seen a single one yet in my new yard. It really varies but the norm would be that most people rarely or never see them in their homes or yard.
They are great pest control! I moved about 10 minutes from my old home a year and a half ago and found even better pest control, House Geckos. We have no scorpions here but there are about 20 geckos living on my house walls and another 30 or so living on the yard walls and we have almost no bugs and ZERO scorpions. PETA doesn't have a problem with me, its PETS that does (People for the Ethical Treatment of Scorpions) 😏

I live in Las Vegas and got stung one morning. I was heating up a hot pocket in the microwave and standing over my dog food and thought I stepped on a small bit of it. It was actually a Bark Scorpion and I kept my foot on the stinger for a couple seconds before realizing that I was going to have my next 3 days ruined lol. Worst pain of my life. This is a great video and I just wanted to say my story.
MY mom was stung cleaning the horse pen. She also experienced the worst pain of her life also. 72 hours of it.
I got stung last night washing dishes in Vegas. It was swimming in the dish water. FInger is still dead, numbing and throbbing pain with electrical shocks that crept up the arm and now entire body, but more diluted. Can't walk or focus eyes without dizziness. Hope this is normal and will go away, as you say, in 3 days.
Just moved to southern AZ. Definitely hiring pest control right now. Backlights are gonna be here Saturday and then I will go hunting. Hunting for monster scorpions. Now my only concern are Javelinas, the scourge of the southwest, as I've heard them called.
I lived in the Phoenix valley for 11 years. Seeing bark scorpions was nearly an every day occurrence. On average I would catch 3 in the house, everyday. I was under the impression back then that their sting was deadly. Funny how your buddy passed on testing that out for the camera. I dont blame him.
Another thing that was common to see was the wind scorpion/camel spider/sun spider. I guess it has several names. They almost look like scorpions, minus the tail. But have a set, I mean TWO SETS of scissors for mouth parts. They look like they can do some real damage with them. I saw one on the flight line on Luke AFB one night. I was getting a good look at him, and he was getting a good look at me. I poked it the face with a big screw driver (about 1 foot long. And very thick shaft. It attacked the screwdriver, and I could feel it biting it. It then came after me. I just walked around it, but it followed me. It kept following me for several parked aircraft. I would climb into the F-16, do my checks, and it would be sitting there waiting for me. After the fourth aircraft I said enough of this, and he met the Bussines end of my boot. But it took sever times. Little booger was tough.
A few years back I went camping in flagstaff with my cousin and after we set up camp we started cooking some stew, at one point we went back to the tent to grab our guns because we heard a mountain lion scream not too far off from where we were. As my cousin was pulling his revolver out of his bag, I pointed out a camel spider on the floor by his foot and he panicked and sent a 158 grain .357 magnum bullet through it and into the floor of the tent, we both caught a little shrapnel from the impact on our shins. Then I noticed this damn thing was still crawling around with less than half it’s body intact and it managed to crawl it’s way out of the tent.

There were umbrella tables set up. You know, the kind like you find at outdoors restaurants. A round table, seats five or six people. With an 8 foot diameter umbrella in the middle.
I was standing the edge of one of the the umbrellas, talking to one of my Dads friends. When what looked to me looked like a Bark Scorpion dropped on his shoulder. I stared at it for a second, I told the gentleman, “excuse me, I got to got rid of this.” He looked confused, obviously he didnt know it was there. I reasched on and swept it of onto the ground, and stomped it.
“What was that?”, He said. “Just a scorpion.” And was finishing our conversation. They guy looked down, and did a double take. “Uh… where did that come from?” I told him probably from the umbrella. It was probably full of them while it was in storage. He slowly looked up, as he inched out from under the umbrella. Several other people saw him, and did the same thing. Just the scorpion. But most people fear them. Was the first scorpion in Florida I heard of. Being from Phoenix and southern California, I have had MANY in my houses through to 20 years I lived in the deserts Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. So to me it was reflex to wipe and stomp. I never saw a white guy get so white before. 😏

Just encountered my first scorpion in my laundry basket. First I saw like 2 little orange things and couldn't tell, then I turn my pants inside out and behold, 2-3 inch scorpion with a few more orange babies with it. Got rid of the pants lol....thank you so much for this amazing information.

In the heat in broad daylight like that in the beginning of the video, you must have had it in shade in a cooler place, because they usually freak out in the Sun when it's that hot, because the Sun absolutely will cook them.
Great Video! I have lived in the valley for 3 years now and just saw my first Bark Scorpion yesterday. It was hiding under a deflated inflatable pool I hadn't got around to properly putting away. My 2 year old stepped on the thing and freaked out. We thought for sure he had been stung. but could not find a puncture point or any swelling. He was pissed for a bit, but then went back to his normal self in like 15 minutes, just scratching at his foot every now and then.
The thing is, we pay for professional pest control so we were pretty shocked to find this critter.

One quick burst with a can of carb cleaner and they're completely stunned for several seconds, more than enough time to smash them with an old paint stir. Works every time, and will sometimes help bring them out of wall cracks if it's sprayed in at the right angle.
I got stung by a scorpion in the Grand Canyon in a rafting trip. I had climbed out of the raft and grabbed a rocky ledge getting out of the raft when it stung me. Fortunately we were at Havasu Falls, so I soaked my hand in the cool water and it helped a lot!
Not sure which video it was that you mentioned where the Bark Scorpion is found, you mentioned, Arizona - their hometown, California, Baja California and New Mexico. I live in Las Vegas, and everyone knows of the Bark Scorpion, they have made their way here via palm trees that are brought here to Nevada from Arizona. I had the pleasure of being stung by one two days ago. Painful, and felt like an electrical shock. It was in my kitchen. Pain and discomfort lasted 2 days. Not pleasant. Just wanted to remind you to please add Nevada to list of where these beasts reside. Great videos, very informative.

My friend had someone dump their pet scorpion on her when she only agreed to babysit and they haven’t answered her in months. She has major arachnophobia. We identified it was an Arizona Bark scorpion. I’ve been trying to research to my fullest extent about these critters so I can take it off her hands and this poor creature could have proper care. Im a geologist, The first year I was in AZ I had a tarp over some equipment at night, well it rained just a little so the next morning i went out and pulled the tarp off. I got stung on the forearm by a Bark Scorpion and let me tell you it was painful!! The pain went all the way to my finger tips like fire, for 2 days i couldnt use that arm so when we see them I usually pick them off with my .22 pistol. its fun, a friend and I will go out with out .22s at night and see who can pick off the most lol those little buggers are tough to shoot so its a fun challenge

You really don’t need to use a .22 for them. I use a CO2 airsoft pistol and it’s fairly easy to pick them off at 10-15 yards and you don’t have to worry about ricochets at closer distances.
Dude you have a infestation though. There are probably dozens and dozens tiny baby ones under the gravel. They dont glow as well. Also Ithink that the Az Bark is the most venomous in all of North America.

My new house in Vegas had about 15 of these in a small part of the backyard. It's hard because we have about half and care of land so it will be hard to spray them all.
While training at Fort Irwin, I would wake up each morning after sleeping on the ground and there was always several scorpions underneath my bedroll. Oddly, I was never stung by any of them.

I have lived in Arizona for fifty years in the Phoenix area and never found scorpions in the house until just recently, so I don't know where he lives, but none of my friends have ever talked about finding them either.
@@islandoflostballoons6528 So true! I moved to Queen Creek from Gilbert about a year ago and haven't seen a single scorpion in all that time. Some areas seem to be infested with them while others have few to none. But even in my old neighborhood, I'd meet neighbors who'd been there for 10 or more years that hadn't seen any until I took them out at night with a black light. So as long as they are not getting in your house it's possible to have them in or near your yard and never know...unless you go looking.
My dad got stung by a bark 2 years ago when he was walking in the house.. stung his foot and he couldn’t walk for 2 weeks

If bugs can see in uv then the scorpion glowing basically turns it into natural bug zapper. If it attracts your food then it seems obvious why it's an advantage

They live in west texas as well, grew up with these guys, and the striped ones, don't get the giant hairy ones though. It's not uncommon to find a hoard of them around indoor pools, literally sweep the desd up in a pile in the winter time. There sting is never forget I can tell you that. I now know what happened to me as a kid, the striped ones don't climb very well, and if you don't pay attention to the stripe, or lack of one, you can easily capture a bark scorpion, thinking it can't climb, put it in a shoe box and fukaroundfindout in the middle of night when you roll over
I believe the species of bark scorpion in Texas would be the closely related Centuroides vittatus not C. sculpturatus, and there are 3 very different color variations of C. vittatus of which one (pantheriensis) looks almost indistinguishable from C. sculpturatus.

I got stung in the hand last night while sleeping. First time after nearly 20 years living in AZ. The stinger felt like a needle and the bite site will go numb and tingly at the same time. Also... Blind stick is a new one. lol It's called a cane or mobility cane if you wanna be technical.
I got stung by one of these and can hardly remember the experience (I was 14) but it was very painful from what I do remember
My entire body was shaking and a lot of cramping was happening
My eyes were shaking and my mouth was swelling and getting all foamy -1000/10 would not recommend
I barehand them, all species. I use a popsicle stick to apply pressure to the scorpion and keep it from escaping, then it will lift it's metasoma (tail) and I'll grab them by it at the joint between the telson and last segment of the tail. Also scorpions glow for many reasons, the glow acts as a kind of sunscreen as well as tell the scorpion that it's caught in the open in broad daylight. It can also be a type of prey attractant, the moon reflects uv light and the scorpion glows it acts just like airport beacon to moths and flying insects that scorpions wouldn't normally have access to. You should see giant desert hairys hunting white lined sphinx moths, they're amazing at snagging those huge moths right out of the air.
I was confused with the tongs. If you're gentle, they'll just walk right on you. They're actually pretty sweet, if you're nice to them.

We didn't have any in our back yard for the first 15 years we lived there and then I decide to make a fire pit and buy a half of cord of wood each winter and now they are everywhere in the summer. I personally like to use a blowtorch to kill them on the spot. They smell like burnt hair once you cook them!! lol

I use a black light, a broom stick with duct tape on the end (for the ones out of arm's reach) and a pocket knife. I'm not terribly concerned about keeping them alive.

Thanks for the awesome informative video! Does it take a while for the pesticides to work? Before I moved into my home I had it professionally sprayed but noticed a rise in scorpions outside/inside my home. I carry a black light with me everywhere I go now 😅
If you have an infestation of scorpions it will take a while to get rid of them. The pesticides are most effective on the bugs that are the food source for the scorpions, if you can reduce their food source then they will move on. Certain pesticides such as Cy-Kick will kill scorpions but for passive control, it works best with a combination of diatomaceous earth which creates micro cuts in the scorpion's "armor" to allow the pesticide to penetrate.

I think you would be surprised to know the bark scorpions are said to be the best tasting of all species, and some people actively hunt them for human consumption. Fried in butter with some garlic and salt they aren't bad but have a serious crunch. great on a salad! I'm in Nevada and we have a lot of Arizona bark scorpions, I've enjoyed the hunt cook and eat... I didn't have a camera man.

Cats will actually eat them! 😮😮 I saw a cat in my neighborhood playing with one that was trying to sting the cat but apparently couldn't land a sting and the cat eventually ate it. Pretty sure if it did sting a cat it would get sick at least.

Sealing crevices and cracks in walls, between bricks, under doorways, garage doors, window fitments, plumbing pipe and electrical wire entry points, etc... is one of the top recommendations for scorpion control.
Small scorpions (the AZ Bark is small at ~2.5 cm fully grown) can fit through a crack the thickness of a penny; sometimes less for babies/young scorpions. They have the ability to compress their bodies to fit through tight spaces.
In the case of the Bark Scorpion, it has a fairly unique skill in that it's quite adept at climbing walls, and can even walk on ceilings a bit. This is often how people get them in their beds... the Bark will walk briefly on the ceiling and drop into the bed from above, from an overhead vent, or find it's way up a blanket or bedskirt that's touching the floor.
Anyway, sealing is an excellent preventative way to keep them out of your house, though it is _key_ to know whether you have an infestation beforehand so that you deal with the root source of the problem.
Regular, scorpion control specific pest spraying is a must in high scorpion population areas alongside secondary measures like:
- Sealing up entry points
- Diatomaceous Earth (this white-ish colored crushed up shell "dirt" is like crawling through shards of glass to a scorpion)
- Cinnamon (scorpions and most bugs in general don't like the scent of Cinnamon powder or oil and are repelled by it)
- Cedarwood Oil (similar to Cinnamon in effect)
- Lavender Flower plants and/or oil (the scent/plants also repel bugs)
- Cleaning up junk and debris around property (old wood stacks, piles of leaves, dead trees/stumps, thick brush, general trash, etc). Scorpions love this stuff because it is rife with other bugs (aka, scorp food). They love to hunt other bugs.
- Cats, chickens, Roadrunners, medium/large lizards, and Black Widows hunt/eat scorpions also and are a natural "pesticide" against them.
Sorry for the novel. lol. They're fascinating critters, and tough little dudes. I respect them, but I do not want them on my property at all. Across the road... you go on and live your best life you little dirt lobster... but cross the road and it's 💀 time. lol
I'm _very_ thankful that I don't have to deal with Bark Scorpions where I live, but I deal with the Giant Desert Hairy (largest scorpion in North America) and the common Mojave Scorpion regularly out here on our California horse ranch in the summer months.
The above methods have worked well for us. I started using these "tactics" 4+ years ago, and it's been 4+ years since we've seen one in the house. And when I do see one outside at night now, they're usually already dead from something listed above.

Had some close encounters with some. They’re pretty passive. Still be vigilant. I hired pest control to spray monthly so hopefully I’ll see less and less. I think being around the mountains you’re just naturally going to see them.

I was stung by a bark scorpion 3 days ago, I Nursed myself 100 percent in only 2 Days. I have experienced it. -- MY BROTHER got the experience of the Covid 19 virus. He was in the intensive care unit NINETY SIX days. He was on the HIGHEST level of life support available, a machine that did EVERYTHING for his organs, he was pretty much dead. He pulled through... his lungs are so damaged that they are only at 50 percent capacity. It almost ruined his kidneys, but he got lucky. My brother now still walking with a walker, still recovering and not able to go anywhere or do anything without an oxygen tank, would most likely not agree. My family have experienced both of these situations. SO PLEASE DO NOT comment on things you have not experienced. It is offensive to myself and family and the families of those who lost loved ones, or suffered months while their loved ones are ALONE, suffering in a hospital! not lol.. no... not funny.

Our record from our backyard was 53 in one hunt! We back up to a green belt. I HATE THESE LITTLE DEMONS! We also have them inside our house. I spray every other day.... NO JOKE! I hate them. I was stung one time when I was 19, I did not feel the sting at the time, however, I ended up, hours later with a "target" like a red, hot, giant, wound. It grew to a softball size target on the side of my knee. Later that night, I became very sick, vomiting, sweating, shaking, and dizzy.... it was not fun. I went to my doc, and she walked in and said, "Oh, you met a bark scorpion!" She gave me a shot of a steroid and antibiotics. My doctor said I had a "mild allergic reaction." I hate them, and LOVE TO KILL THESE LITTLE EM-EFFERS!
Yikes! That sounds like an infestation 😱 Hopefully your vigorous spraying will help. Killing off their food source is the most recommended way to get them to move on. Unfortunately, if your neighbors don't do any pest control then they might have plenty of food despite your best efforts. Took me 3 summers to get my infestation under control and I got permission from the neighbors on two sides to spray their yards too. The 3rd neighbor had professional pest control and I almost never saw scorpions on that side of my yard. So a good professional pest control company that specializes in scorpions may be able to help. I moves to Queen Creek a year ago and haven't seen a single scorpion in or near my yard and I have green space on two sides, so either the HOA pest control is great or my neighborhood has not (yet) been infested. So now I have to go into the Sonoran desert to find them just for fun😁

No, that's not a typical backyard. I had lived in Arizona for 40 years before I ever saw one anywhere.
I moved ten minutes from my old house 18 months ago and haven't seen a single one yet in my new yard. It really varies but the norm would be that most people rarely or never see them in their homes or yard.

They are great pest control! I moved about 10 minutes from my old home a year and a half ago and found even better pest control, House Geckos. We have no scorpions here but there are about 20 geckos living on my house walls and another 30 or so living on the yard walls and we have almost no bugs and ZERO scorpions. PETA doesn't have a problem with me, its PETS that does (People for the Ethical Treatment of Scorpions) 😏
