Hello Noel! Thanks for what I consider to be one of your most entertaining videos ever. As an American, I can tell you without hesitation that among our greatest assets is our neighbor to the north.
Hey Noel, I am so happy that you’ve been uploading amazing Canadian content. As a Canadian I am proud that you expose us to the wide variety of aviation that exists in this vast country. Greetings from London, Ontario!
I have four friends in London Ontario. I pull their legs that it is the "Fake" London, says me, Vic the Cockney, from London England. I have stayed in London Ontario a few times visiting. The Park Hotel and the Toddle Inn (which has closed, sadly). Normally a group of us visit from Britain, and we have done every Canadian railway (except Churchill), but including Windsor, Sarnia, Sept Iles to Schefferville, Carcross in Yukon, Vancouver, Calgary, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Whistler, Prince George, Kamloops, Banff, Jasper, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Senneterre, Jonquiere, Cochrane, Moosonee, Quebec and Niagara Falls. Plus St Jacobs to Waterloo, Orangeville to Brampton, La Malbaie, Wakefield, the South Simcoe etc. My wife flew in the co-pilot's seat of a DH3 Otter from Victoria to Vancouver, but being a railfan, I preferred my ride on the locomotives from Emeril Junction to Esker, Ottawa Science Museum, Whytes Park to Port Stanley, Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Canada is a great country, and the Canadians are great people. We also had our honeymoon in Canada, on the Canadian, and fell in love with the place.
Harbour Air is also working on swapping to Electric propulsion for these short hops, already completing a number of test flights. Perfect application for the technology.
AS someone who lives just outside of Vancouver I can admit that I have never taken Harbor Air over to the island but after seeing this video its going on my bucket list! So glad you enjoyed it and the fish and chips in Nanaimo! Hoping you will be taking more flights around our beautiful province so I can't wait till the next video!
It's like a time machine if you want to go over to the islands. So much faster than taking the ferry. Flying out of YVR South is slightly cheaper than from Coal Harbour.
Super glad you got to fly with Harbour Air! Too bad you didn't get on a piston beaver - totally nostalgic, and if you're lucky you can sit in the right seat next to the pilot. You would have loved it!
So glad you got a beautiful Vancouver day to experience Harbour Air! It definitely makes a massive difference to how incredible the ride is. Thanks again for showcasing our great community!
Amazing! I've been on those Harbour Air seaplanes several times, live two blocks from that terminal! Super fun to watch you experience these amazing flights!
So happy you were able to enjoy this experience. My wife and I flew on Kenmore Air on a seaplane in Seattle a few years ago. An absolutely amazing experience. Love the bubble windows! Travel safe Noel!
Next trip here please come up to Port Hardy, (northern tip of Vancouver Island) and you can ride with Wilderness Seaplanes in the world famous Grumman Goose. I promise you will not be disappointed.
I loved my flights on board DH Otter and Beaver. We stayed in Victoria for a week, in a hotel right by the harbour, and woke up every morning to the sound of these little beauties. Hope you went to Victoria while you were there. I loved it, and would go and live there in a heartbeat if it was possible.
Someday you could fly into Seattle and then take Kenmore air to Victoria which is a lovely place. We couldn't do all the museums when we visited. Butchart gardens are a short bus/cab drive away so go during the 'blooming' season! Lots of wonderful things in BC.
I’ve flown on one of these, but…it wasn’t in Canada. Several years ago, I was on holiday in Malta and HarbourAir were operating a plane from the Grand Harbour, flying over the island, across to Gozo and then back again. Having never been on a seaplane before, I couldn’t resist booking a flight. These are fantastic aircraft and it was an incredible experience taking off on water, especially somewhere like the Grand Harbour. Perfect visibility from the aircraft, which meant I was able to take plenty of pictures on the flight. Would thoroughly recommend it, but HarbourAir no longer do the flights from Malta, which is a shame, because it is an unforgettable experience.
This is the mode of transport that checks all of the boxes for me. The only time I flew in anything smaller than a commercial jet was a friend's Cessna 150 that he flew for sightseeing over the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I made sure to read up on the basics of flying and got to fly for about an hour but was scared of landing from the crosswind.
In September 2014, I flew on the Mail Run around a few of the isolated bays in that part of BC. I sat next to the pilot of C-FFHQ, a 1949 DHC- 2 Beaver, 203rd airframe, which still had its original PW radial engine. Unforgettable experience! Just love the smell of Vancouver whenever I visit this favorite destination of ours
Great video. As a local, I’ve photographed these many times but never flown on one. Glad you enjoyed your flight. I’m also glad you got out here to the west coast of Canada
We tried to fly Harbour Air from Vancouver to Victoria once but they didn't operate the route so we went on AirBC with a Twin Otter on floats instead. This video reminded me of that trip - it is a really beautiful part of the world!
. I am only at 4:23 into the video and I already feel like this is possibly the most intriguing adventure of the dozens (of yours) I've watched. . Absolutely fabulous! . And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I fly harbour air all the time to Vancouver from Victoria, British Columbia. It's a completely different experience than a land based airplane, and it is a weird feeling floating on water lol ..
I live in Burlington, ON - and even I didn't know Nanaimo, BC is this beautiful! The only thing I know of Nanaimo are the Nanaimo bars! It's amazing that a guy like Noel from the UK is showing this and helping us appreciate all the places we could travel around the world! I look forward to seeing your future adventures and how you appreciate the smallest of things.
That $140 round trip is also WAY cheaper than a roundtrip on BC Ferries! Shame you didn't come down to Victoria! We have tons of beautiful places right downtown!
This takes me back to 2009, when I took an 11 day vacation trip to Seattle, including 4 days in Vancouver. Flew Harbour Air on a one hour air tour of the Cypress Mountain 2010 Winter Olympics site, Horseshoe Bay, Bowen Island, Whistler, Mt. Garibaldi and Indian Arm Lake on the return; only other passengers were 2 older sisters from Sweden who could speak only a little English, but we all had an awesome aerial experience. Same docks, probably the same turbo Otter (without the video safety message), same takeoff in the channel (and a little nerve-wracking clearing those cargo ships by less than 100 feet 😯), though that passenger terminal / waiting area is new (was only a small, cramped portable building back in 2009). Glad you had a great experience, Noel! 👍
OMG! I wouldn't think of eating those fish and chips without the salt and vinegar! Except i have this thing for putting a dash of black pepper on my chips too! I loved going up to Vancouver and Victoria when I lived in Seattle. I used to go whale watching up there a lot, one of very few things i miss about that area. Otherwise i love Texas! But the only way to do it is by zodiac boat! It's definitely the best way to experience it! If you're back in that area, definitely go to Victoria!
Flying on the SeaPlanes into Nanaimo is the most amazing experience. I’ve done it twice so far, and I won’t go back to flying commercial into YCD (Nanaimo Cassidy) or even taking the ferry. This video just made my heart ache. You got to visit my favourite place in the world.
Great video. Love taking Harbour Air. It makes for a great day trip taking Harbour Air from Vancouver to Victoria then taking the ferry back. Great scenery from the air and ferry.
Hi Noel, My wife and I did a Harbour Air DH3 Otter from Victoria to Vancouver. There were 13 seats in the cabin, and 14 passengers. My wife could not believe her luck, when she was selected to sit in the co-pilot's seat for the entire trip. When we arrived in Vancouver, her wide grin, from ear to ear, said it all. Thanks to the crew. Amazing flight. Recommend Butchart Gardens when visiting Vancouver Island, at the rear of the gardens is an idyllic white sand beach. Truly stunning. Regards, Vic from London England.
Harbour Air has some of the coolest planes. Harbour Air was featured in a CBC TV series back in the early 80's called Danger Bay. Not bad weekly show back then. It's nice to see that you are travelling in Canada. Hopefully you will get to more spots while you're here.
Had the amazing opportunity this past summer to hike the remote West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island for 7 days. What made it even more memorable was a seaplane flight from the end of the trail from Port Renfrew to the beginning at Bamfield. It’s an amazing way to see this part of the world.
Love this!! I live in Victoria, which you previously filmed a helijet ride in on. The seaplanes here are amazing and I am glad you got to experience the beauty over here - Nanaimo is a lovely extension of Vancouver Island. Cheers
We have a floatplane airline here in Seattle and they fly to Canada along with the islands and tourist flights. The main thing is they do otter maintenance and upgrades here for other airlines that fly them. I have seen harbor air planes here getting work.
I love the name of the planes if u ever come to the outback of Australia i will show u my people and arts!! U show us so much of the world and we love it.
I took Harbour Air from Vancouver to Victoria (Twin Otter) then back from Nanaimo to Vancouver (Otter) in August. Great and inexpensive way to get to Vancouver Island or any of the smaller islands. I grew up on the island (Victoria) and my family are up island (Duncan/Nanaimo) now. Most visitors are surprised at how large Vancouver Island is (about have the size of Ireland). The island has some pretty large mountains with Golden Hinde (2197 m/7208 ft) being the tallest.
All these aircrafts & boats in the Vancouver area including boarder are all patrolled by NAV Canada by air & water, my aunt is the one actually telling these guys patrolling in the air & on water what to do she has a high position job at Nav Canada 🙌🏼🙌🏼💯💯
If they were still around I would like to fly a "floatplane" airline that would actually fly the type of clippers Pan-Am used to fly nearly 100 years ago.
Nice to meet you earlier this afternoon. This video reminded me our time in Vancouver a few years ago. I loved watching the floatplanes' coming and going. Even made it up to the port in Whistler.

I'm so fortunate to be living on the Island, but working often in Vancouver - I've had the chance to fly between Vic and Van some 10 times with Harbour Air - and it's always incredible.
Love this vid. I've stayed in the Pan Pacific and watched the Beavers, et al, taking off and landing. Love the Beavers. What a gift to be able to fly without paralyzing fear.
Oh yes Noel that would be a day out I would thoroughly enjoy. Sea plane ride, bit of exploring and some fresh fish and chips. For the experience I would say good value for your dollar / Quid.

That's a bucket lister for me. I've no idea when I will be back in Vancouver, but I plan on taking a floatplane to Victoria on Vancouver Island. It's a shame that I never got out to Vancouver Island last time I was there, but hopefully next time.
. "Have a good flight. Come say 'Hi' after." How often do you hear that? . 1,000 feet. Nice and intimate with the earth. . Then there's the evident charm of Nanaimo. I could have seen more of that. . "Crunch!" Yes. I actually heard you bite into the batter on the fish and chips. You >know< our salivaries went into overdrive with all that. (Wagging my finger at you.) You did that deliberately! . Yep. My first impression was right. I have enjoyed this one to the max.
The views flying across Georgia Straight are incredible and Nanaimo is very nice. Glad you had some nice weather for it! My favourite place to visit while in Nanaimo is Saysutshun Newcastle Island, which is just a 10 minute water taxi ride from the harbour front. I've flown on Harbour Air's Twin Otters a couple of times - the landing is a different sensation. 😁
That's right, Andrew. She and Elvis had a home in Nanoose Bay for a while. Elvis used to come into the grocery store where my wife works bringing the twins with him. That was some time ago. I'm sure they're all growed up by now.
Very awesome to see Noel in Vancouver! I've watched you go all across the world and to see you somewhere local is kind of surreal. I'm sure you're long gone but there are some great planespotting areas around YVR including 26R where they fly right over you. Great channel Noel!
If you ever get another chance, fly a seaplane to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The scenery coming in over the island and the rugged coast is stunning and Tofino is a lovely community.
@@noelphilips Nice, Victoria is a beautiful city :) The flights to Tofino are even cooler but I think they're seasonal as the weather is too rough in the winter for seaplanes. So if you're ever back here in the summer, I highly recommend Harbour Air to Tofino 👍🏼
The safety video on the seaplane was amazing even in Maldives the seaplane service providers don’t follow that protocol or they don’t have such kind of arrangement on the seaplane’s safety features
the batter on the fish looks really crispy nice
I absolutely love that one of my favourite UA-camrs visited my hometown of Nanaimo. I am so glad you had a positive experience there.
Hello Noel! Thanks for what I consider to be one of your most entertaining videos ever. As an American, I can tell you without hesitation that among our greatest assets is our neighbor to the north.
Noel goes all the way to Nanaimo and doesn’t have a Nanaimo Bar!

My pleasure!

@@allen480 Well, given that it's an inanimate object, I doubt the motor could ever be awake or asleep. It just is.

@@petermolyneux9544 I was able to do that on Cape Air flying into Boston Logan...that was something I will NEVER forget. It wasn't a sea plane though.
I hope Noel will return when Harbour’s ePlanes are in service.
I did that on a Kenmore air flight from Victoria to Seattle and yes it was a piston beaver! First officer seat too!
I did a tour of Vancouver on one of these a few years ago. I got to sit in the copilots seat. It was brilliant
Just spent a month in England, I can see why you spend so much time flying around the world.

By the way, Nanaimo looks like pretty and peaceful place.
I went from Nanaimo to Vancouver on harbor air it was awesome.
Flew Harbor Air once where they put a passenger in the Captain's (left) seat. She got in and said loudly "OHHH, Buttons"... the whole plane laughed!

I did fly a Seaplane out of Vancouver. ua-cam.com/video/bMwwp7TpcDA/v-deo.html
It certainly is nice to HEAR you give reviews rather than having to read tiny print scrolling by...thank you. Safe travels.
Nice video . My buddy was your pilot on the way back to Vancouver harbour ! Thanks for checking out Nanaimo
My friend , take a flight to Victoria, or even better, thake the ferry and then go visit the Royal British Columbia museum. You will not regret it.
I love flying Harbour Air! So good. Best way to get between Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
I took this plane in July 2019 from Vancouver island to Vancouver city
Now you're in my part of the world... great episode!
The safety video on the seaplane was amazing even in Maldives the seaplane service providers don’t follow that protocol or they don’t have such kind of arrangement on the seaplane’s safety features
Nice. I live in Vancouver although haven't taken a sea plane before, BC Ferry is cheaper..ha ha
Great Video!
The views out of the airplane are so lovely!
Thank you so much for bringing us with you on your travels
