Mudhoney - Revolution 1308pm 19.1.25 when they shagged each other's music, y' mean? proper. i liked this ear. what o! i was attendant at something goin' on goin' down. and i dug it. did you dig it!?
Bullshit! Mark is playing homage to Spacemen 3 buy giving it Mudhoney’s own twist! It’s a fuckin great vrs and no mistake. But better than the original?! Nah......as good!
In 'n' Out Of Grace by the same band had a pretty good intro. They used to open with it, the drummer hammering away while Mark set up a little table on the stage onto which he put a massive bottle of vodka which they somehow polished off during the set. Idk maybe it was full of water, who knows?
Damnit really. I haven't seen them since pain in the grass free shows. This was also the time someone gave me some bad mushrooms that caused me anxiety in the crowds. First poor fella that looked at me I attached saying "fuck you looking at mother fucker. Hippies would say are you cool as in can you get high and not get violent
Love it, been years since I’ve heard this… Out of curiosity, I vaguely remember a version where the b side was spacemen 3 covering “when tomorrow hits “ ?
The two 1989 recordings were *supposed* to be released together as a split covers single - similar to one Mudhoney had done with Sonic Youth for Sub Pop in 1988. But J Spaceman was so offended by Mark Arm's mocking lyrics that he withdrew permission for the project 😢 Mudhoney's "Revolution" cover was instead released in late 1989 as a B-side track on the European 12" edition of the "This Gift" single. Spacemen 3's brilliant version of "When Tomorrow Hits" arrived in early 1990 on an otherwise worthless 7" comp given away with an issue of Sniffin' Rock magazine. (I was living/working in Washington D.C. at the time and bought both from Skip Groff's dearly missed Yesterday & Today Records in Rockville MD.) I don't believe the two tracks were ever officially released together as originally intended, but they may have been bootlegged in that form.
Spacemen's version of WTH is on their final album, Recurring. It's the middle song, separating Pierce and Kember's sides of the record(they hated each other so much by that point they wrote separately.).
It was originally a b side to a single. There was a best of Mudhoney CD a few years ago where the 2nd disc was rare tracks like this. So far I can’t find it streaming either. I wonder if the rights are an issue since it’s a cover.
bought the 12" that this was on when it came out just for this song. pisses all over spaceman 3's version. one of the best bands i ever saw live -almost as good as Nirvana and just a little better than sonic youth (though respect to the yoof)
I remember this was a piss take of Spacemen 3 whose song was about changing the drug laws in the UK. Spacemen 3 didn't take it well. Ironically Mark Arm was probably more of a smack head than the Spacemen :D
@@SteveTalisman Spot on. Back then I much preferred mudhoney and dino jr and sonic youth (my gods back then) to Nirvana (whose only song I ever liked was come as you are). Just being honest. And then there was lots of other/better cool guitar music floating around like early pavement and Mercury rev/flaming lips and the remnants of shoegaze, and Marychain's return with" honeys dead". So much more interesting to me then Kurt Cobain and all his screaming drama and chorus pedal quiet/loud wanky guitar sound.. All the metalhead and jocks got into Nirvana and pearl jam/alice in chains and all that shit, the same people that were into green day etc later on. That was their actual crowd, not indie kids. It wasnt for me. I liked Spacemen 3 but they deserved to get the piss taken out of them too with all the bullshit Sonic Boom was talking at the time (at least Jason kept his mouth shut). Mind you Mudhoney were huge fans, theyre on record as saying spacemen 3 were a direct influence on the song "mud-ride".
Mudhoney wrote the first grunge song in 1989, Touch Me I'm Sick, and at that time Kurt Cobain was Mudhoney´s roadie! Now they say Nirvana wrote the first grunge song in 1988 and there is no mention Mudhoney whats so ever. That stinks!!
Touch me I'm sick 🤢 was 1988 bro... And the first grunge song was Beethoven's 5th... Or The Sonics "The Witch"... Or Neil Youngs "Cinnamon Girl".... Or if we are talking about Seattle, then maybe the U-Men... Or Melvin's 1983 sludge bucket blues punk...🥳🤣⛈️
Everything you said was completely wrong. Deep Six Compilation in 1986 captured the first grunge songs and kurt cobain never at any point was a mudhoney roadie. Jesus.
Just rubbish. Don't get me wrong I love Mudhoney but listen to Spacemen 3s cover of When tomorrow hits instead and see what they add to the Mudhoney original
I agree that Spacemen 3's version of "When Tomorrow Hits" wipes the floor with Mudhoney's (damn good) original. But I'm about 50/50 on "Revolution". As an exercise in pure sound, the Spacemen 3 original is superior, especially at self-harm volume on decent gear. But Mudhoney's cover turns S3's well-studied "rock" mannerisms into a blast of pure, primal rock & roll -- holds its own with the MC5 at their best. It's also a hell of a lot of fun (a quality with which the works of Kember/Pierce reveal no familiarity).
Absolute shit. No wonder the Spacemen 3 wanted nothing to do with the AA side the was planned with When Tomorrow Hits. Listen to that and hear a proper cover 👍
I miss the days when Mudhoney + Spacemen 3 just made sense.

this is one of the best songs you could ever listen to. if you're here, congrats
I agree, way better than Spacemen 3's version. Mark is pretty much making fun of SM3 by changing the lyrics, giving it humor....
totally man
@@looshkin66 hehe, sadly true, but funny,....

The greatest intro to any song, ever. Change my mind.
Helicopter spies. Safe European Home. I’m Your Man-Wham. Some others too, but I can’t condemn your statement
Not a chance.

Hot For Teacher cries in the corner
I bought this in my late twenties and it is still fucking awesome in my sixties. Fuck yeah!
Sounds about right. I bought it in my early 20s, and it's still awesome in my 50s. Cheers 🤘
i want to live inside that guitar amp
Cool Cover. Just underlines Spacemens' influence. Well done Mudhoney.
They're taking the piss "methadone clinic". D-uh
Damn F'in right 🥰
Thanks for sharing. Not heard this Mudhoney song before. I'm blown away.
It's a cover of a Spacemen 3 song
Saw Mudhoney a few times at Manchester Academy, feckin Awesome Days 👍
Going to see them in an hour!!! They always bring it live. So stoked...

theres a change coming to my junk filled mind
The Radio Version had the Same Intro As Primal Scream I recall - exciting days Xx
The guitar intro is MC5's Borderline! Very good!

Can´t really get this version compare to the S3
Funny how much better this version is compared to the original
No lo creo brodi, pero si suena cool y es muy agradable ver que mas bandas rinden homenaje a los maestros
