Quick tip for you, kiddo; as I've found that my rats have an affinity for chewing on the seam allowance inside of projects such as this. I've found that sewing a french or flat felled seam to attach each side, (either of which will encase the seam allowance inside) works wonders.
I just made one this size to do as a test run, I will need to do one with bigger dimensions for my ferrets. I wanted to make sure I was able to make this before I try to make one the proper size for them and I succeeded haha. So now I just have to figure out dimensions that will work for my ferrets and hopefully I can get it all together well. My males are 3xs the size of my female ferret, and even with this small corner hideaway one of my boys tried to get in it.....he fit but was spilling out lol. I'm gonna leave it in their cage for them to lounge on until I make a larger one.
Love your tutorial! As a beginner I have sewn this corner for my rats, ans was quite proud of it. Within 2 weeks they had completely destroyed it =") Like it has now 4 entrances LOL. So I will have to sew more soon =D
Love your tutorial, can you video pictures of the hammock "in action" with your rats inside it and it hanging inside the cage, so I can see how it hangs please?
I’m very impressed!! I use a scissor since I’m a beginner... does the roller cutting thing works better ? it seems very expensive at the material store?
where could I get the metal clasps that you have to hang the hammocks and does it come with the little black peace and metal peace that you hit the hammer with :)
danielle st.laurent please don't make this for a hamster. they will chew it up, the fabric will get stuck in their pouches and throat and they WILL choke and probably die.
thanks for the reply but I've already have been making them none of my 4 boys chewed on fabrics thank god but I've been making the corner cube I'd have to send you a picture another time.but I have been making them cuddle sacks and the floor tunnels as well as the hanging ones I'm still very much a beginner so I don't want to to post pics here.unfortunately we are down to 1 dwarf hamster now it's been a bit since they passed away I was just learning with the sewing when I asked about what dimensions to use and if you do hidden seams they are less likely to get threads loose.i have a friend who makes her own hammocks and so forth helping me out.
danielle st.laurent OK but it's not the threads that are the problem it's the fabric. if it's not in the age then it should be fine to use during playtime but you could make the same sort of thing out of cardboard and hot glue that will be a lot safer. but if they don't chew them then I guess it's fine :)
SociallyAwkwardBurrito I swear my boys aren't normal lol they never chewed fabric or the cage bars.i think you showing concern for them is great alot of ppl don't care ☺ it actually took a while before gadget would even go near a cube or tunnel but once he got used to it he won't sleep anywhere else he takes he seeds in with him and munchos away. I'm actually about to make a new cube tunnel and cuddle sack set cuz it cage cleaning time if they come out good i will post a few pictures..have a good weekend
As a beginner, I was able to make this no problem:) made 3 so far now and they’re all awesome! Thanks

What size grommets (eyelets) do you usually use?
Lolly Kilber they are about half inch. Now I don't use them anymore, I now use metal curtain clips ^__^ they are amazing
I’m very impressed!! I use a scissor since I’m a beginner... does the roller cutting thing works better ? it seems very expensive at the material store?
