Am 23 yrs old Watching this while on my second trisemester for MBA and i tell you things get so overwhelming at some point i developed emotional breakdowns and was at verge deffering my studies..But i collected myself and said i got this..This journey is not going to be easy but am here till the end..Anyone on this journey keep pushing. Thanks Daktari❤
I agree with you Lindah, it can be challenging pursuing a PhD in any field because the research work is intensive. For anyone planning on taking it on, be mentally prepared. As a lady pursuing a PhD in Engineering in my late 20s, the feeling of being isolated is real considering we are social beings. I would still encourage anyone to pursue a PhD if they're in a position to. Other than choosing a research area of your interest, do good background research before choosing your supervisor because in most institutions your supervisor is the one person who can influence how fast you complete your study. Also, as much as you're choosing a research topic of your interest, ensure you are choosing an area with great future prospects because you do not want to be halfway through the process and then realize whatever research you are doing might not be worth the effort (not implying that the work is useless but its more encouraging if you are doing something that can contribute to a better society, policy, new tech etc and most importantly your financial or job gains).
I have a friend in the US who finished her phd last year. She is now I believe an adjunct professor in Statistics. She did her phd while raising 4 kids, I think the oldest is like 10 years. She has no househelp and her only family in the States is her husband. I don't know how she did it, but she did.
Imagine it's possible if you put your mind on it. I am currently pursuing my PhD. in Germany while taking care of my son without any help since my hubby is in Kenya. I was newly married and pregnant when I went to pursue my master's in Belgium after being awarded a scholarship. When I was almost due I went back to Kenya gave birth, left my son with my mum, and then went back to Belgium to finish my master's. After I was done with the master's, I went back to Kenya since my son was very young and my mum, who was taking care of him, had passed away. I stayed for a few years, and then I was awarded a scholarship to pursue a PhD. in Germany, where I am currently based with my son. Hopefully, my hubby will join us next year.
I graduated with my MBA in 2017 and a friend of mine was "pressuring" me to do PhD but when I saw the kind of stress she was going through, I said naaah. Hio PhD limpeleka mbio sana. I had to always console her whenever she would breakdown. So, respect to you Dr. Lindah and to my friend for undertaking a PhD.
If you want an academic career where you teach and do research then go for a PhD in Business for example. But if your goal is to work in other non academic jobs, an MBA is sufficient.
Wow,thankyou Dr.This has really encouraged me,thanking for sharing this great information. I have just started my education journey at 37yrs and I am focused to finish my PHD.❤
My engineering journey was just a journey and a half. It is something I am very much passionate about. But, I wish I had someone to at least advise me on what I was getting myself into. So going forward I made it my personal mission to educate young people on all the different things that come with pursuing engineering. Therefore, seeing content like this on YT that is actually relatable geographically and quit informative for people pursuing Masters and PHD, is just heartwarming. You are such a blessing. Keep winning and shining, Daktari.....Daktari Squad it is!
Engineering! Wow! I salute you 🫡. That must’ve been tough, but you made it and i am so happy and proud to see my fellow scholars telling their success stories❤❤❤. Keep winning and also thank you for your kind words 🥰🥰
Based on my experience, I strongly advise thoroughly discussing all the different models, methods, and techniques for the research methodology chapter. Justify your reasons for not selecting certain approaches and provide a robust justification for the choices you made. This comprehensive approach will effectively eliminate any potential gaps that examiners might use to challenge your work. Taking this precaution will enhance the strength of your research methodology and increase the credibility of your study.
PhD supervisors play a significant role in guiding and supporting your research journey, and their expertise is invaluable. However, it's crucial to remember as you said that you are the expert in your own work. Self-drive and self-motivation are essential for success. While supervisors offer valuable motivation and guidance, ultimately, you are responsible for driving your research forward and taking ownership of your work. Balancing their guidance with your self-initiative will lead to a more fruitful and fulfilling PhD experience.

Thank you for sharing your experiences; they are truly valuable and inspiring! In the epic odyssey of my PhD journey, I've also experienced the exhilarating highs and challenging lows of a thrilling rollercoaster ride. Two weeks ago, the manuscript rejection hit hard, echoing emotions akin to heartbreak. Yet, within these moments of vulnerability lies an invaluable source of strength and growth. With each passing day, I embrace the opportunity to expand my knowledge and accumulate a vast array of skills and values. This journey has become an empowering teacher of resilience, unveiling my capacity to weather storms and emerge even stronger. I've honed the art of creative problem-solving, transforming obstacles into stepping stones towards success. As I continue this extraordinary expedition, I am filled with gratitude for the transformative lessons it imparts. I am no longer a passive passenger on this rollercoaster; I am the fearless navigator, steering my destiny with purpose and determination. Every challenge I overcome, every skill I acquire, brings me closer to the pinnacle of achievement. In moments of doubt, I remind myself that greatness lies within the depths of perseverance. I did my MSc at JKUAT. I do not even know how to describe that experience but I ended up publishing 3 journal research articles which still continue to get citations up to today. I think that is the only thing I celebrate about my MSc more than anything else. I had to drop out of work to make it work and relocate to Juja so that I could access my supervisors from within a walking distance from where I lived. I was almost giving up! I saw my friends who went to other unis clear theirs but there I was struggling to get mine going but now that is all in the past now. On the day of the final thesis defense I refused the snacks and the tea they give you when they send you out after you do your thesis defense as they deliberate on your fate. I felt so done and tired! I asked the lady for water which I drowned like I had lived in the desert for days. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I am forever grateful to my supervisors Dr. Mike Kimwele and Pro. Stephen Kimani. I then applied for PhD the following year at JKUAT again but I did not report for studies up to today. I do not know whether I will do PhD in Kenya but I am open to all possibilities. I am waiting to see what the future holds for me.

I thought when you've attained a PhD that's when you can take the title Dr. At least that's what I see in the public universities. Ama I missed something in the explanation?
This is an inspiration Dr Lindah..... have just come across your videos today... it's such a motivation....am pursuing my masters...so far so good...i believe i will make it......but at the beginning everything I felt was hard for me.....work and studies......i was almost to a point of quitting.....but what i have realized there is nothing good like studying while young.... have seen people struggling especially those age have gone abit.....but am 23...very much optimistic... soon I will be a masters holder and still come back for PHD....that title is awesome for sure ❤
Thanks for sharing your experience, and I wish you the very best! Proud of you my Meru sister. I am currently writing my Master's thesis in Germany, and the way it is stressful, I am rethinking my PhD dreams. Although, I have opportunities here of doing a fully funded PhD here in Europe, especially because I am in the field of sustainability and climate change. But one thing surprised me; how is it that Kenyan Universities (lecturers) still require students to print notes? Is there no Portal where they can upload the notes, and one can access them on their computer? I did my Bachelors degree huko 2010 - 2014, so I thought that things changed.
Very impressed with your videos. I would love to be part of the daktari squad interview and share my education journey as a wife and mommy to 4 kids(Ranging from 12 years to 4 months old😊)
Oh wow! Hats off to you for that! 🫡. I would love to hear this story… I actually remember you from my first QnA video… ❤❤❤❤ thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. Keep winning! 🎉🎉

A good take from this is you managed to do your master's and post-doctorate while working.Inspiring... This gives you experience in the work world as you study as well. What advice would you give someone trying to pursue a PhD without having experience of work? , say they are doing an academic degree?
Okay I went to a private uny for my bachelors and my defense was hell 😭😭I literally cried for two weeks straight after my defense…….i think moderators are all evil …regardless of the type of school you went to

Supervisors weeeuh some will have a special spot in hell. They decide if you finish your journey or you don't. Especially in public universities where you cant change them easily
Is there really hope for someone like me who is finding undergrad so hard yaani it will take me six yrs then what about the rest?. congratulations to all of you
Hi Dr Linda, i am not getting it- have you already graduated? Started 2020? Please do a video about the viva- i lost my mind a couple of times.Regardless congratulations, indeed a humbling process. I would sum up a phd journey as 1st year all proud as i am amongst less than 1% of the most intelligent globally yr 2/3 how can i not figure this and finally becoming a proud idiot who knows nothing and confidently accepts that(the more you learn the more you learn theres alot you dont know). Phd is life changing, humbling and its just a license to explore more. However it is worthy. To all those pursuing a phD or higEd all the best and those dreaming about it go for it its always worth it.

Aaaaw ❤. Thank you. I shall keep you posted❤
I thought when you've attained a PhD that's when you can take the title Dr. At least that's what I see in the public universities. Ama I missed something in the explanation?
She is my role model ❤
Am going for my master too
Thank you 🥹. Go for it 🙌🏾 in a few years you’ll be glad that you did ❤
This is an inspiration Dr Lindah..... have just come across your videos today... it's such a motivation....am pursuing my masters...so far so good...i believe i will make it......but at the beginning everything I felt was hard for me.....work and studies......i was almost to a point of quitting.....but what i have realized there is nothing good like studying while young.... have seen people struggling especially those age have gone abit.....but am 23...very much optimistic... soon I will be a masters holder and still come back for PHD....that title is awesome for sure ❤
Finished first Masters aged 24. 2nd, in Computer Science aged 27. Started Ph.D. in Computer Science, Jan 2022. I need a break
Take a break please 😭😭😭co what ??
First, Giirl, the glow🥰🥰🥰, I'm happy for you. Just graduated with a degree recently and your insights at that advanced level are really helpful.
This was beautiful to watch...
You are an inspiration to many Lindah ❤️..
Very timely and relatable. Asante
Respect ❤❤❤❤
Hoping to revist here one day
Education is so expensive
Thank you! ❤
Yes education is costly but investing in yourself will always pay off in the end ☺️☺️
There are options to get funding for your degree. See my comment above
Beauty with brains 🎉❤
Your meru dad and my meru dad. Meru dads will never appreciate you, but they'll brag around about their kids
Dr. Squad I love it🎉
I finished my MA in 2022. I can relate with all what you have highlighted. It was tough. I need a lot of encouragement if I'm to go further.
I am here for her skin. I am in awe.

you are such an inspiration
Loooooved this!😃
A good take from this is you managed to do your master's and post-doctorate while working.Inspiring... This gives you experience in the work world as you study as well. What advice would you give someone trying to pursue a PhD without having experience of work? , say they are doing an academic degree?
What an inspiration 🤎, such a beauty with brains, well, well done Linda on your Doctorate achievement 🤎🤎🤎
Thank you Dr.Muthoni for this information really helpful.
Okay I went to a private uny for my bachelors and my defense was hell 😭😭I literally cried for two weeks straight after my defense…….i think moderators are all evil …regardless of the type of school you went to
Do a video on what one should do to get the Prof. Title. I like ua presentation....that issue of positivity n reactive can catch u offhead in a presentation...what do u do to get the Prof. Title
For this you have to achieve a certain threshhold of the input interms of the research work and number of publications beyond PhD.
I wish i could get someone to sponsor me. Would love to enroll for masters immediately since the degree is done😩😩🥺
This is so insightful Dr😁
Try applying for scholarships
@@Laureen_nifa where? On which platforms for example?
Especially on linked in you'll find legit plugs and also following career people they plug the links including former professors..also institutions..also they are common scholarship programmes advertising like hungary

The vibe here is a + a huge one
Hahahaha..You are good gal. Congratulations!!
Supervisors weeeuh some will have a special spot in hell. They decide if you finish your journey or you don't. Especially in public universities where you cant change them easily
I concur. Some public universities are a mess, it can take twice the time to graduate because of small inconveniences 😥😥
Road to 50k subscribers.....good content Dr Linda
😂😂 i cried too after my defense but it was because i passed and it was a sigh of relief for me!
Is there really hope for someone like me who is finding undergrad so hard yaani it will take me six yrs then what about the rest?. congratulations to all of you
its the intro for me Dakrati!
Thank you for noticing ❤❤❤.
Watching and wondering where did I go wrong? Congratulations dr Muso
Beauty and brains pro max.
This is soo HELPFUL
Thank you Dr Linda for the information
Ofcourse the lady supervisor was jealous. What a b....! Congratulations to you. You are finally getting it done.
