Rocky III is a 1982 American sports drama film written, directed by, and starring Sylvester Stallone.[3] The film is the sequel to Rocky II (1979) and the third installment in the Rocky film series. It also stars Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers, and Burgess Meredith. In the film, Rocky Balboa (Stallone) faces stiff competition from Clubber Lang (Mr. T), a powerful new contender, and turns to his old adversary Apollo Creed (Weathers) to help him train.
Development of the film began soon after the release of its predecessor. Stallone began a strict diet and workout regimen in preparation for Rocky III. Despite the returns of the original cast being secured quickly, casting for Lang proved difficult, with real boxers Joe Frazier and Earnie Shavers attached to the project at various points. Mr. T was hired in 1981 after appearing on the television series Games People Play and the film is considered his breakthrough role. Rocky III is the first film in the franchise not solely distributed by United Artists, due to the company's merger with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in 1981.
Rocky III was released in the United States on May 28, 1982, by MGM/UA Entertainment Co. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for its action sequences and music but criticism for its screenplay, with some critics deeming the film unnecessary. Retrospective reviews have been more positive and the movie gained a strong cult following.[4][5][6][7] Rocky III grossed $270 million worldwide, surpassing its predecessors to become the then-highest grossing film in the franchise, and the fourth highest grossing film at the domestic box office and the second highest grossing film of 1982 worldwide. Its theme song, "Eye of the Tiger", became a hit single and received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 55th Academy Awards. The sequel, Rocky IV, was released in 1985.

    Can't wait for Rocky 4!!
Fun Fact...the Rocky statue still stands at bottom of art museum steps. Tourist and Philadelphians take pics with it. I believe last year they put it back at top of steps and Sylvester Stallone came with his family and went up the steps with fans. 😊 I was born and raised in Philly. 😊

Shows how racist philly is. They put up a statue of a fake, white boxer, but Joe Frazier, one of the all time greatest boxers ever is a son of the city, and no statue for him. So fake boxer, cool, real boxer who is black, fuck him lol.

RIP Carl Weathers. He was the main character's friend in 3 of my favourite movies, Rocky, Predator and Happy Gilmore, so he felt like my friend by default. God bless him!

Fun fact: the only actor in this movie with professional boxing experience is the actor who played Paulie. I forget what his record was but it was decent. I could look it up but im lazy

Mr T gained the most fame on a TV show called "The A Team" back in the 80's everybody loved him. He had a famous tag line that always started with "I pity the fool that......" Hulk Hogan was the golden boy of what used to be WWF, but is now called WWE wrestling - everybody loved him too. Both of these guys were advocates for kids working out and being drug free, staying in school, no gangs etc.; they were basically the real Rockys for kids in the 80's. Even though they looked menacing, they were real teddy bears and sweet guys on camera when not in the middle of a match. Rocky's coach Mick, who played The Penguin in the 1960's Batman tv show really did die a year before this movie was released. He was really a great actor RIP. I can't say enough how much your reactions never disappoint. Thanks! Rock IV is a showstopper hands down. See ya then!

Clubber Lange was a fantastic heel character. He had elements of real-life monsters Sonny Liston and George Foreman. T became an 80s action superstar in his own right after this. I really only liked the first three movies, but I am probably in the minority.

The wrestler is Hulk Hogan. The most famous wrestler ever. Stallone is actually about 5"7 or 5"8. Hogan was listed at 6"7 but is probably really 6"5.

    1. My favorite of the Rocky movies. Rocky IV is almost as good as this.
    2. Where I lived had that pinball machine and I kicked the shit out of it. (Top 5 scores)
    3. Micky's death shakes everyone.
    4. "Eye of the Tiger" was from a band called Survivor. Their other hit was "High on You".
    5. The woman swooning over Rocky that Micky chases away was Sly's wife IRL
    6. Kudos to Mr. T for playing a man with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
    7. IRL Clubber Lang (and his ego) would be back. In movie land, been there, done that.
    8. RIP Paulie/Burt Young.😇
    9. RIP Apollo/Carl Weathers😇

Terry Bollea is only 6 foot 7.. probably shorter now that he's older. "Over 7 feet" is just pro wrestling "numbers fudging".. stallone is at least 1 foot shorter... so the hight inflation is also supposed to make Stallone seem a lot taller than he is.

    • @IggyStardust1967
      @IggyStardust1967 3 місяці тому

@@DanJackson1977 Hogan was only "billed" (promoted) by WWF as 6'8". Usually they only fudge the height by an inch or two, because it would be too easy to disprove and "bust Kayfabe". Hell, Undertaker was billed as 6'10", and was a legit 6'9", while his "Kayfabe" brother Kane was listed at 7'0", but was about an inch and a half taller than Undertaker. Weights were fudged even less back in the 80s, marginally speaking. Nowadays, their actual weights are used 99.9% of the time.
As for Stallone and Hogan's height differences, a lot of that was "adjusted" by using various camera angles.

@@IggyStardust1967 That and they had hogan stand on a box when they met in the middle of the ring. I can't believe dude thinks hogan is 7 feet tall and 500 pounds, ROFL, he thinks hogan was as big as Andre the giant. Some people are just brain dead. Pro wrasslin lies about height and ESPECIALLY weight always. There is no true anything used for stats 99.9% of the time in that carny business. Guys were lifts in their boots and shit, or their boots the heel part, is like 3 inches extra.

Mr. T... 80s icon..... my childhood.. this is the most quotable Rocky, off Mr. T alone.
Funny that you said, "if he said n!gg@", when you were talking about Hulk Hogan (the wrestler, another 80s icon). He had a controversy about him saying that word in the early 2000s
