will it work on a different version of the router?
Hardware Version: Archer C6U v1.0
bro speed better? for what purpose did you install this firmware?
Yes very performance very good I have been using it for six months no problem
you made the firmware yourself ?
While flashing, the one thing I would *not* do is mess about with the router :-)
If you know something, say it clearly 🙂
@@SMBiT :-) now it's my turn to be puzzled if *you* really are puzzled about my wording, or if you're teasing me... after all, I'm a computer nerd and not a native English speaker...
If I should take your response at face value, I can mention the following, to be more precise:
Whatever the hardware model at hand, when you're reprogramming the "bootable image" in-band, there's a risk that if the programming goes awry, you render the device unbootable (AKA a brick). If you're lucky, there's a way to unbrick the box, but typically it's already a nuisance. So, while programming (flashing) a piece of kit, you should definitely avoid manipulating the box and cables mechanically - lest you cause a power glitch or a communication failure, which can break the incomplete flashing process.
It's true that sane in-band flashing procedures nowadays first transport an update package across the network, then verify the update file's checksum already on the target platform, and only then proceed with the writing of an EEPROM or disk. Which avoids flashing a broken image due to intermittent network errors during transfer. The best firmware I've seen can store multiple firmware versions side by side on the disk, and the final update happens by merely "redirecting a pointer" to the desired image (normally the last one). The "pointer redirection" can be made very fast, if not atomic. So the boot process can be kept consistent on disk almost all the time, even while flashing a new image. You can also have a watchdog timer and an automatic retreat to a previous version if the new one doesn't boot within a time limit...
I mean: there are ways to make the flashing procedure pretty fool-proof.
But, if all you have is a "progress bar" in some stock TP-Link firmware (actually displayed by your client-side browser), that's not nearly enough information about what the target box is actually doing at any one moment, so I would be *super* careful not to tickle the box while it's trying to erase its flash chip and write a new boot image.'
BTW I can take some teasing, offensive humor and the like. No need to spare me :-)
Thank you for sharing, any update by the way?
Does it improve performance and range?
