It’s kind of ridiculous, because women were already an integral part of the imperium, such as sisters of silence, and the sisters of battle. Everything in Warhammer specializes in something but gw in their infinite wisdom decided they want everyone to do anything it takes away what makes the characters special to begin with.

In all honesty, this was a mistake. The lore stats that the custodians were all sons of noble/royal families on Earth that the Emperor subjugated during the Unification War. I don’t see any reason why they retconned decades old lore other than to appease a minority of people who aren't even into Warhammer. If they wanted more female representation amongst the Emperor's Talons, just focus on more stories involving the Sisters of Silence.
I am not against female representation in Warhammer(because that's definitely not an issue). I am just against the principle of changing established lore for empty socio-politics.

I'm especially annoyed by the tourists acting like they know the lore when they really don't. If it was just Warhammer channels talking about it and it was an entirely internalised event, I wouldn't have given a damn, but now channels completely uninvolved are trying to defend our hobby while knowing nothing about it. It's annoying when people uninvolved are speaking for you when you never asked for their help in the first place, especially considering how shining a light on it isn't going to help at all as an outsider. Doesn't help with some of the brain-dead takes I've seen on the topic, like people thinking Custodians and Space Marines are the same thing when they're not. I'm just tired of seeing the outrage.

WH40K is supposed to be grimdark and the Imperium of Man IS a fascist, militaristic, fanatically religious patriarchy. The writers wanted to do this ever since they became playable. This was a decision by the Black Library Writers, it took ten years for them to finally do this and it was because of a GW executive constantly telling them no that it took so long.

Besides, how in the everloving fuck are you going to make Warhammer woke? Everyone's fucked in the head, everyone does evil shit, Orks eat people, World Eaters murder babies, Sisters of Battle will burn you alive for not praying hard enough, Space Marines couldn't give less of a fuck about your life, there are multiple examples of Custodians being willing to just kill innocent people for just being in their path (Diocletian in particular almost decapitated a child), the Emperor eats a thousand innocent people a day (those people in question being escorted by the Sisters of Silence), and the less said about the Dark Eldar the better.
The Custodians as a faction are only seven years old, and all their recent lore was made seven years ago, retconning all previous Custodian lore, around the same time the writers wanted to introduce female Custodians in the first place.
Women can not War as well as Men. There can be perfect women but a perfect woman would not be a warrior. It'd be a nurturing, empathetic Goddess but not a Warrior. The God of Humanity would want elite combatants protecting him. Females would have a different role.
It's not so much what GW did, it's how and why they did it. But jump to bigotry, just like the rest of the Left.

They will need to explain how this works. Would have made more sense if they just increased the Sisters of Silence output in the lore since they've been more actively involved since Guilliman returned.
It's very simple actually! The process of creating a custodian is already personalized and different for every custodian (old lore), as they are already each a custom made masterpiece. The process starts at a very very young age (old lore), long before puberty causes male and female recruits from developing in different ways due to gender. It does not use geneseed (old lore), contrary to space marines, so the gender of the recruit is utterly insignificant (obvious deduction). The alchemical processes involved have a far greater impact on the development of the pubescent custodes than gender could ever have, so male and female custodes are functionally the same in regards of strength (usually higher in men, but the same here), speed, pain tolerance (usually higher in women, but the same here), and combat effectiveness. The recruiting pool (the volunteered children of terran nobles) is already small and the rate of survival is even lower, so further restricting it by only picking boys is counterproductive if the end result is just as effective for girs as it is for boys. Under all that power armor they are functionally indistinguishable until they take off their helmets, so saying that some of the helmeted unnamed background custodians were women all along under all that power armor could barely be considered a retcon.

It's very simple, this is a seeping of the Culture Wars and Politics into yet another Verse or IP all for profits or investment funds. Blackrock and Vanguard are literally share holders in GW now and they are notorious for doing this this with other IPs where they promise the parent company investment funds if they push the agenda. To think otherwise is just being naive.
Now that 40k has more mainstream appeal, it's caught the eye of companies like Blackrock and Vanguard.
There's literally many factions in the Table Top for female representation, so to shoe horn in some poorly done Lore that conflicts with long established lore.. and to do in a way that treats its fans like oh didn't ya know.. there's always been female Custodes is lazy and insulting.

While there are plenty of female characters and factions in the lore, there is nothing feminine about them. The point of 40k isn't male or female. It is about war and survival. But as in all things, do the right thing, the right way. The whole issue was the way GW treated their customers.

The biggest reason people are upset about this is that they see the writing on the wall, if GW is ok with doing huge retcons, and tearing apart decades of lore just to shoehorn female characters into the custodies, it’s only a matter of time before ALL the lore is retconned, thrown out, and dismantled for even more egregious, and stupid shit. We don’t hate women, we hate our lore and game being changed to pander to people that don’t even care about 40k, and then being ridiculed for speaking out against it. There are so many amazing strong female characters in Warhammer that everyone likes because they are beautiful and well written.

Seems like they are just dumpstering the already existing women's factions, like the Sisters of Silence or the Sisters of Battle. in all honesty the best way to make everyone happy is to just have the Custodes, Sisters of Silence, and the Lucifer Blacks under the Talons of The Emperor umbrella.

People are just poorly hiding their misogyny. At other lore changes and rectons they haven't cared as much. Hell there was a big fuss with the primarous due to the massive lore changes yet these people were less outraged then.
I see this as an insult to women. They’re saying: the only way women can stand alongside men is to throw away everything that makes them a woman and become a man. Nobody would’ve complained if the SOS or SOB got more stuff, but GW made the conscious decision to take the pandering route and outright lie to our faces.
I think they are just traumatized from seeing other companies make 'small changes' which quickly snowball into something huge

The Emperor tried it and ultimately gave up because the Geneseed consistently gave female aspirants a case of spontaneous combustion. The only one who succeeded in making female Astartes (because they do exist) is Bile, and he gets a pass because we don't know what sort of warp fuckery he did to make it work.

Narratively, all they had to do was continue with the whole "Guilleman recalled the Sisters of Silence" thing they already established to make them the proper, badass faction they should be and lean into how faith gives the Sororitas power and ability you wouldn't expect. But no.

i mean, i dont really see an issue, for one thing custodes arent augmented like space marines, and are likely the template the emperor wanted for humanity after the crusade so he would need females among the ranks. For another, cuatodes very rarely see combat or the frontlines, so they would be a rarity among a rarity.
and last of all, for people complaining about lore consistancy, you do known this is games workshop, tell me how the sensi plotline is going.

On lex there are 20 battles just in the indomitus era that Custodes took part in. Being a playable army has changed the faction much. So yes they do fight quite often nowadays, this isn't a 4th edition faction of hearsay and mythology anymore but a vital part of the imperium's defense.
@@valantheflame0193 20 battles? Last I checked, there's about half a million battles occurring every month, and a battle is not a war. That's not much in the grand scheme of things, and prior to Indomitus and post Horus Heresy, they did fuck all for ten thousand years.

As someone who has collected and followed 40k since 2nd edition everyone saying that this change is gong to kill warhammer is hilarious. If you quit a game just because it includes female characters, I feel sad for you.

And by extension the handcrafted version in the Custodians can't be women because their bodies literally just couldn't. This hits like 7 or 8 different books who touch on it and make them all irrelevant. That's another smart move, but second of all, I'm more p***** off that G. W is doing this entirely in the spirit of d. EI and. They did it in the worst way possible instead of giving players and painters what they want, which is a new faction with new lore. And new abilities, they decided to take the lazy way out and just throw some women in an already established faction, ruining that factions lower in the process. It's beyond dumb. Do you know as a painter? I would love some new models. No, what I'm gonna get is some female space Marines with boobs instead of the. Regular models. I don't want that. Space Marines, sure, that's been explicit for a while. but the Custodians use a totally different super human modification process. plus, they were made from the children of the old Terran nobles the Emperor defeated, and as a basic matter of statistics, some number of his hostages would have been women to account for hoble houses with no sons, or matriarchal warrior cultures that thrived in Old Night.

People literally hate this idea and I doubt it will change much. What has changed is people's respect foe GW. By putting out the tweet stating 'they always existed' GW basically called the fan base dumb and unfortunately people don't like to be called dumb. If GW had said that Girlyman had opened up the recruitment pool and inducted women very few people would have cared BUT they didn't. I expect that GW will downplay this side of the lore from now on unless Amazon push it. GW will be in damage control.

It’s a good revaluation. This makes clear that custodes and space man are not the same.
Space man are mass produced and therefore require that men be the basic template whereas custodes are custom designed making them each one a truly unique warrior.
