Trouble is the ones who think because someone has form they are still at it. Cameras, facial recognition, hard to breathe in this modern Utopia let alone consider breaking the law. 45 years of a reformed honest life, a good working rewarding life and the Government passes a bill so everyone who has done 5 years + is watched and have their lives ruined by ambitious security guards who want to make a name for themselves. I am still not going off the rails again even though the instances of abuse were frequent to begin with and I have put up with this nonsense for ten years or so. Not trying to say its great that he's doing this nor trying to encourage more people to do it, but i can understand the moral justification behind it. I heard him talk many times about his envy of forgers, and he reminded me of what had stopped being required of students by the 70s - the importance of copying the masters. That you could eventually no help showing your own hand.
BTW, Dad was born in a tenement in Detroit, his 2 siblings died of the cold. He would sneak out and watch Diego Rivera paint the murals in the Detroit Institute, and one day looked up through the scaffolding and said, :"Hy! Mister! That's pretty GOOD!" and Rivera there rags at him and said Go AWAY little boy!!". After the war, he went to the Philadelphia MOA and - long story short - had to support a family and when he retired, he went back to painting. 3 of his cowboy pieces were chosen for a show at the Louvre to celebrate American Artists In Paris for the US Bicentennial. He always felt he was a failure, but hello...? The Louvre!! haha

He is a copying machine lol. The idea is already on canvas and all he did was copy paste. Its not as much about painting technique but about the idea itself. The size, the subject, the colors, the shading. Its all there, served on a platter. Its what seperate tattooers from tattoo artists as well. You can pick an image from a book and have any tattooer do an okay job. But if all you have is a simple idea, what you need is an actual tattoo artist to make the idea reality.

My mum was an art teacher. Back in the 80's her colleague ,Mick, taught art to the prisoners in Strangeways in the evenings. One of the prisoners who he dealt with was in for art forgery (wondering if it might even be this bloke?).
Mick also had a connection to the BBC in Manchester. He got a wedding invite from a producer (or director? Someone flash at the time, possibly iirc conected to Coronation Street) and was dismayed at the level of presents on the wedding list as the couple were using it to set themselves up in their new house (washing machine/King size bed etc etc). One thing caught his eye though, an Edwardian watercolour! He decided that he would have a go at painting one of those.
He took advice from the forger on how to do this, and with some help from my mother as well on style/technique/composition, produced a painting then set about aging it (lemon juice and heated in a tin in an oven?) a period correct frame bought from a junk shop and nails aged in his garden etc.
The couple were delighted with the painting, it was the one present, said Mick, that all the guests seemed to focus on amongst all the expensive stuff and no one seemed to have any doubts about it, not even Mick's wife whom he hadn't let in on the secret.
Some months later Mick got a phone call, it was the husband who very apologetically mentioned that he'd been asked to submit something to a charity auction. He explained that since they were still setting up their life together he didn't really have anything suitable apart from the Edwardian watercolour, as much as they'd hate to lose it, would Mick be upset if he donated it?
Mick could only agree that it was their's to do with what grey wanted/good cause... and hoped nothing would happen to get him in trouble. He found out later that it was appraised/valued for £500 and sold for £1000
