- HMCS Protecteur is an auxiliary oil replenisher. Her role in this mission is to provide food fuel and supplies to the warships in the international fleets. At 24,700 tonnes she was built to be a warehouse at sea, sailing through the theatre of operations with her ship’s crew performing two or three replenishments at sea daily.
A powerful naval task group has sailed east from ports in Canada to one of the most lawless maritime regions in the world: the Persian Gulf. As a part of a six-part HD documentary series, we follow the daily events and real-life stories of the brave men and women living and working to keep these warships running at a 100%.

HMCS Protecteur was decommissioned in 2015. The Canadian Navy got a new supply ship called MV Asterix in 2018.
no mate, it's still there
@@britishempire3342 It was decommissioned after an engine fire, keep in mind this video was recorded in the early 2000s.
@@britishempire3342 she gone
@@britishempire3342 Protecteur and Preserver have both been broken up, the RCN currently has MV Asterix and the construction of Future HMCS Protecteur is currently underway at Seaspan shipyards in British Columbia.
Great and worthy program. One complaint: please ditch the obtrusive and utterly uneeded and overly loud obnoxious rock music.!
I think SPARK bought the right to air the original program w/c was already recorded earlier years. That's why the music is very much similar to WestWood Studio's music theme for Command & Conquer series from 90's to early 2000s.
Lol, when I was in the military we had Queen blasting on the speakers
Our theme was” we are the champions “
Electronic warfare technology
@@williamcrislerjr9699 Yes, but that was a different environment altogether. Listening to that junk with headphones while trying to watch something is distracting and annoying at best and utterly unnecessary.
She looked terrified of that pistol, plus she flagged THE FUCK outta the camera man lmao
I came here to read the comments about the music.
Damn I flinched a bit during some of that weapons training ondeck... the cameraman was being swept by the barrel repeatedly, the sailor had her hand in some pretty precarious positions towards the muzzle, and she wasn't really in control of her weapon (even if because of sweaty hands).
I’m not an expert but I definitely know they weren’t holding their guns correctly when training
To be fair she was inexperienced and learning under close instruction when camera moved in front of her. It was pretty stupid for the camera to sweep passed her in that situation.
Yeah. Cringe..

I’ve had to wear some weird uniform over the years but check out the white hats on the guys. Look like they should be giving tours at a local wildlife park. 🤣👍
Yeah what it's culture history.
Where are you from my friend ?
Gar Whittaker Australia and if you look at some of the uniforms I wore over the years, one of which it looks like I should be selling ice cream instead of serving in a branch of the military.
@@smith5312 Ice cream outfit must of been your whites on board ship am I right ?
@@smith5312 The Canadians wearing their white hats obviously they have no military application and are purely history orientated but when the bullets start to fly there hard hats go on ....its history and tradition and being different from others .Don't see anything wrong in that do you ?
Gar Whittaker never had a problem at all, that’s why I said I’ve worn equally horrible uniform to empathise with them. Of course the pretty hats go away, I got a garage full of traditional useless uniform.
Interesting, but get rid of the awful music
Nice to see our "battle tanker " doing it duties ,,,ready aye ready
HMCS Protecteur was decommissioned in 2015. In 2018 they got a new supply ship called MV Asterix.
It was decommissioned after a fire in the engine room actually west of Hawaii.
100 tons is less than 4 truck loads. I’m amazed that’s all the food they can carry when they’re supplying other ships. They must be back and two to port between every replenishment.
I wanna be on that ship during the Zombie Apocylcpse
Producer: Make sure to get footage of a girl using a gun
Director: 31:40
As a retired USAF Small Arms Instructor I found the entire segment of their small arms training hard to watch. They just put the guns in their hands and tell them what to do and if, by some miracle of GOD they manage to hit the ocean and not bleed at the end they're good. Even in the Air Force we had 4 hours of classroom training before we set foot on the range and that is per gun. There is a 4 hour class for the rifle and a 4 hour class for the pistol. In the class they learn how to handle the gun, Loading, clearing, shooting, reloading, tactical reloading and immediate action for clearing jams. That girl never once had a good grip on the pistol and she covered herself and the camera man multiple times just trying to lock the slide to the rear. Worse yet, their "instructors" or RSO's on the range did NOTHING to help her or any of them for that matter.
That program of training is in my opinion Criminally Negligent to say the least.
So Canadian with this awful music right out of the 90’s
The musics fine, it's like WestWood Studio's music theme for COMMAND & CONQUER up til early 2000s.
Nickelback !
not a psychology expert here. Does that horror show make any sense when everybody knows for SURE that it is fake?
It was kinda funny how that played out

Try to NOT SMEAR OIL ALL OVER THE SLIDE OF YOUR SIDEARM IF YOU WANT TO LIVE!🤨🖖🏼🇺🇸
AS a retired marine mechanic it does not take 12 hours to remove a boat transmission at least in that junk rotten boat..
you are out of your mind if you think it takes less time to remove a transmission in a rolling boat, trouble shoot, repair, and reinstall. Plus you know hes probably guessing 8 hours and saying 12 because nothing ever goes as planned with boats.
In the end all was washed away
JK Morrison : lol, “that’s because you didn’t have to watch all those commercials through the video!

Fire 3 missiles and then see if there are any survivors
Just wondering why the captain of the ship is so out of shape. Shouldn't the leader lead by example and be physically fit?
Someone has to test the supplies. :P
Naw, dunno why he's relaxed about his physical.
This is an auxiliary vessel. Just like in the RN, Fleet Auxiliary ships have civilian crews that are supplemented by naval personnel for defence and warfighting roles. The merchant sailors are usually naval officers that are approaching retirement or have other civilian jobs. The captain and most of the crew are probably non-military personnel and are not held to the same standard.
Fantastic vessel and I am sure the Asterix is even better. It seemed a bit slow on the anti-missile drill though ( maybe it was just the way it was presented. ) 100kph is about 600 mph = one mile per second so 40 miles distant is only 40 seconds away and the drill took long minutes. And did they really have to load the CWIS first or was that a simple weapons check?
I didn`t get a warm fuzzy feeling watching the girl with her sidearm...Not the best that`s for sure..
when was this shit filmed in the 90's?
This vessel was sold for scrap in 2017.
Nope , it's still in service
@@britishempire3342 no it is not,it was decommissioned in 2015,they only got a new AOR in 2018 called MV Asterix

Lol, could have made an artificial reef with that junk
The weapons training is cringe.😳
terrible gun handling
Guess I wasn't the only one to notice that... I mean I don't blame them, it's not their main job. But man what kind of training was that...
I can't watch this. Lose the music, and don't rely on someone reading dry narration. Whatever happened to docs with the likes of Gwynne Dyer? Look at how VICE does this sort of thing.

in coming missile are way faster than they pretend to be in the training the response was too slow. way too slow if they cant do all this in 2 second they are dead
1) slow is smooth, smooth is fast 2) a missile takes longer than 2seconds,usually detected on radar quite a bit put giving upt to 2minutes of reaction te but usually they have 45secpnds to respond with chaff,CIWS counter missiles etc

Her Majesty’s ships, is that Justin Blackface Matters Trudeau?
This video is literally two decades old, and two of the ships since have been decommissioned, what's your point?
this is a sloppy rag tag group, no comparison to a USA equivalent vessel
Funny you say that considering the Canadian Navy made records in drug trafficking interceptions, using similar battle group methods. Guess you don’t know your facts.
Why don't you join the RCN and show them how to do it then?
That's why the RCN beats the US in 9/10 war games/sims,even with our "sloppy rag tag group" we still beat the Americans in alot of things, except for budget,in case you haven't realised the population difference is why .......
