You should be using m4 spirit bats. They have a higher attack speed and post crimson isle update the health doesn't matter as long as they have enough to survive one hits phase which they do.
Mage is a very strong class early on, seeing as weapons like the sword he used ealry on are readily available. If your worried about dieing alot you can play tank as well, although theres like no damage there. Hope this helped!

I might not do endgame stuff unless I've practiced on another profile and have the gear to make it trivial, I mostly just enjoy farming tbh, so it's kinda funny that I can say I've done however much farming I've done while on a deathless ironman. for example, 500 million potatoes was impressive, and sure people have already beaten it, but 500 million deathless ironman potatoes ? now that would get people asking the real questions, like "why ?" lol (i'm not even at 20 million yet though, I farm every crop at least a bit, I want to collect every tool and max them out too, see if I can't get max farming fortune on this profile someday)
