"Park Fire" North of Chico, CA (27 sq mi) Starting around 3pm yesterday as of 6:03 AM the fire was 45,000 acres (70 sq mi) larger than the area of Stockton as of 2:48 PM the fire was 71,000 acres (111 sq mi) the size of Fresno as of 6:39 PM the fire is 125,000. acres (195 sq mi) larger than Bakersfield Charleston, SC Atlanta, GA Las Vegas, NV Seattle, WA Philadelphia, PA Detroit Portland Denver Tampa San Jose Albequerque Tulsa

This bums me out. Highway 32 is my favorite drive. It gets more and more beautiful the further you go, then you take a left turn and go to Lassen and see even more beauty. Its my place of peace when I want go get away from people and catch some fish or hike, or spot some wildlife. I can see why someone would like to live out there. So sorry to all the people who lost their homes.

Ive been watching it grow all day. More and more disturbing how I dont even need go search the horizon it's taking up so much space in the sky. Thoughts and prayers for everyone.
I live in Canyon Oaks right at the cluster of homes closest to the fire! I’m still surprised that we haven’t even been issued an evacuation warning. It looks incredibly close specially last night. If it did come down that ridge the homes would be in trouble but I guess like you said there is some pretty defensible space at the south end of the houses.
Fire Science is fascinating. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’m in Paradise surrounded by yellow get ready to go. Cars packed up. Survived the Camp Fire, having some anxiety but your science has helped quell it a bit. My dad was a Hot Shot with the Dept of Forestry and he taught me so much about fire ( specifically Wild Fire) and its personality -that it’s a living thing and very persnickety, unpredictable and greedy. Your knowledge adds another layer to my education. Now, if I could just stay out of its way 🙏 thank you

Former corpi and USFS fire fighter - thank you current fire fighters stay safe.

Hey Z just watching the KCRA 3 chopper feed live at 7 pm. Woodland park drive homes down 32 from forest hills are burning. They appear to be holding it from going over to eagle ridge drive other side of 32. Impressive cumulonimbus icy head. Dante's inferno. vl

My son was reassigned to this fire. Might be the first fire to ever reach 120,000 acres in 30 hours.

Basically what you said, the cleanup from Dixie removed a lot of the fuel that’d be around Chester

As the fire perimeter increases, why don’t the % containment drop? it seems stuck at 3% and I would expect a drop given how fast it is moving.
