This album is, imo, one of the best produced and engineered albums of all time. As an audio engineer, I always recommend this album, among others, to use when breaking in new reference monitors.
The more I'm getting into audio engineering for my own stuff the more im realizing how great the mixing is on this. They had crazy recording methods too. Off the Wall as well. Good stuff all around.
God the way at 3:33 the synths and beat create like harmonizing sound that sounds so heaven-like, don’t know how to explain it, makes me feel and see Michael singing in the background looking out at the galaxy
Instead of getting away with the bare minimum with new technology to cut as many corners, they took as many corners as they could to create a masterpiece
Not to be a history nerd, but for most of history, music was all instrumental with no singer, then when singers started joining orchestras they were "featured", they were not the star. So in the 1980s, pop singers were still relatively new, and the emphasis was still on the instrumental. Today, the instrumental is an after thought.
I love the funky chords and some of those hollow-sounding synth bits. Also, MJ's voice sampled through a E-MU emulator is also magical. I get an atmosphere lol
It's amazing to see the quality of Quincy Jones' creation of various rhythms and sounds. El is an all-time music history genius! And Thriller is a masterpiece!
