You have explained the cons but there are pros to this as well, like (few lanes = more traffic = less people willing to travel by personal vehicles instead using public transport/ BRT). The city should be designed with people and there walkability in mind not for Cars. Less lanes promotes people to walk/ cycle or in the case of Karachi use BRT. The city adminstration should take an initiative to build good quality side walks to encourage people to walk and cycle this will further help the BRT system by providing integration. A similar innitiative was taken by BRT Peshawer. Our city, still in its early stages of development, it stands at a crossroads, with the potential to evolve into a European-style Walkable city or transform into a vehicle-dependent urban landscape reminiscent of majority of the US Cities. If you go to most of the developed cities in Europe you will find Sidewalks twice the size of the Road because they promote people to walk and cycle. Doing this improve the life quality and life expectancy, reduces air pollution and lowers the demand of oil which in return help them save there foreign reserves.
