Can't pick spell specialization on level 1, are you using mods?
My first Lich run I did something similar to this (going with Ley Line and Winter Witch). I went with a little more thematic race with Dhampir - Vetala-Born.

Hello @CRPGBro I wanted to help out covering the other end of this build for the shaman side. This will be my next playthrough and I've fleshed out the build. Hope people enjoy:
Goal: shaman blaster caster, winter witch multi class.
Class: possessed shaman. We lose 1 hex and wandering hex for way more skill points.
Background: qadirian Wanderer. It's a CRPG build we know we will have a feat in improved initiative and we get a familiar. Plus Wanderer adds perception to class skills which is a plus for the main character.
Ability scores:

You could dump con and int down to 7 for 16 dex and 16 Charisma but that is a hefty price tag and I don't want to pay it.

if you go Shaman route you have more gear options:
- Chillroar's Hide and Tusks relic -> light shield -> Coldbite +1 more cold dmg per dice
- Hide Armor of Elemental Carnage (bought from Gesmerha after completing Wintersun) +1 more cold dmg per dice
also you can proc Elemental Imbuement more reliably by casting Icy prison on the wearer (assuming she has Freedom of movement first)

Ive played Winter Witch for some time, and the lvls of Winter Witch stack with Leyline Guardian for all things Hex-related. So that means that you dont have to keep taking Leyline lvls to get -4 from Evil Eye or +1 round of Protective Luck duration.
You are correct!
It was mostly for the 1d4 -1 to 1d4 boost/upgrade from Conduit Surge.
Correction: while getting to leyline 8 conduit surge may be a fair thing to prioritize in and of itself - WW actually fully continues the progression of your hexes (both DC and lvl bonuses wise) - so that part of the reasoning behind absolutely needing to stay in leyline until 8 is dead wrong.

@@cRPGBro seriously, i know you main playstyle is alpha striking charging but there are other ways to play the game and if you are interested in releasing builds or guides pls keep that in mind.
when a new player looks for builds or guides online about wotr and they see your video they might think that this is the only way to play the game, which is not. pls give more variety to your builds and pretty pls no more "weapon focus, combat reflexes outflank, dazzling display, shatter defenses" on caster builds. we need more caster *casters* builds, that actually cast spells turn after turn and not right click on enemies and wait type of builds.
ive noticed that because of your playstyle you overlooked several very powerful things in this game, like spells or even archetypes. like court poet, that archetype is amazing and imo better than normal skald with pounce, but ofc, my playstyle isnt not alpha strike charge.
court poet bonus stacks with soo many things. nature whispers ac, scaled fist, paladin saving throws, smites, casters spell DC, etc.
also, a well built caster build can totally trivialize an encounter, even bosses with their spells. you seem to overlook those.
example, trickster mythic path. while trickster is really good for melees and that is what most ppl think when they look at it, it is also amazing for casters, totally boss killer. a lvl 20 trickster caster with gear one gets by act 5 of the game can cast ONE hellfire ray that deals over 3.5k damage, thanks to trick of fate. even against enemies that are immune to critical hits, that same hellfire ray, same build, will do at least 1k damage for a single casting. now add quickend spell on it and you can see where this is going.

my point is, a not melee or martial heavy party is totally viable on unfair and VERY strong, but the whole mindset of building characters is different of what you have been doing lately. pls experiment. you will find that there is a lot more to it.
PS: there is a very obscure interaction between the spell elemental assessor with some mythic ability that makes that crappy spell deal over 1k damage. i want to know if you know it. :D

Amazing guide dude I learned the game using your builds they helped me so much! I want to try a second playthrough with demon after playing angel path. What class/build would you suggest for melee demon path that is no cheese and no pets? It would be amazing if you can make one in the future!
I had a little trouble getting this off the ground on core- but on ACT2-3 it really starts to shine. One thing I would do, get Selective metamagic instead of Bolster and use selective Winter Grasp, with the Lich Power that drains stats, it's just incredible (and very thematic)-then can be used with Firestorm, Plague Storm, Hungry Flesh Domain. All of these can be used with Conduit Surge too, so they are really staying relevant.
Yeah I was wondering why we are taking Bolster Metamagic instead of Selective if the main spells we are using are already AoE.
Yeah, I love his unique builds but I feel like he always sleeps on Selective Spell. I use it on my controller/pyromancer and all enemy groups are pretty much left defenseless while my party charges in unharmed and cuts them down. Especially when you get Sirocco.
Selective spell just makes a caster so much better. Even his mage/sorcerer builds he doesn't pick it when you can drop a selective grease at your feet as enemies seem to ignore tank and head for my caster and they fall on their ass. Cant be done without selective coz you and your party also drop like a rock.

20:48 I think it's important to note: Loremaster can get Precise Shot without the prerequisite Point Blank. So for Ray casters I think it's a good pick up.

Which one of your 2 witch lich builds would you say is better to have in your party? This one or the more debuff focused one? I want a caster focused lich build to avoid the horrible 20% miss chance from sold youth, which you need to do to become best buds with Zachy.

Seen a loremaster build going the devil path using cold like this, I think it uses polar rays though that seem to do more damage than hellfire, or maybe it's converting it. Saw your Devil Ray build and wonder if that's still viable or would it be better going the cold route.
I'm following this guide but when I have to choose a spell specialization it shows nothing, no spells so I can't continue the guide. What am I doing wrong?

To get around this bug you have to select spell specialisation one feat selection later.

@cRPGBro I’m enjoying the content but I have a question for you regarding the new shifter classes and your updated skald build. Did you know if the current interaction with the skald song overwriting shifter class skills/natural attacks is intentional or if they are supposed to stack?
I think it has worked that way even before as far as Monk, for example, they used to replace Monk Unarmed hits.
But all my Shifter Builds were tested with a Skald on party and the Song Boost, and I believe I managed to retain the form's attacks while shifted.

About Bolstered Metamagic: there is a bit of an anti-synergy with sense vitals as it prevents all precision damage. I learned that the hard way with my Arcane Trickster that couldn't do sneak attacks and I didn't understand why (it was the Favorite Metamagic bolstered on everything)
Yeah. If you got a maxxed caster level, you might not want to drop bolster for sense vitals. Caster level x2 - compare to your sneak attack damage.

I wonder if taking a level of Oracle for the waves freezing spell revelation would be worth it. It can slow enemies for one round when hit with cold spells if they fail a reflex save.
I have not played with it yet, but have heard you can use it to essentially hold enemies immobile if they're already under a cold effect.
For this build, it could be a bit annoying early as you would essentially be delaying your spellcasting progression by 3 levels.
@@cRPGBro Yeah you definitely wouldn't want to go with the Oracle dip until you had access to level 6 spells. It's not necessary but it would support a pretty interesting playstyle if you wanted to use a bunch of range characters.
It would turn ice storm into a pretty good spell, halfinv enemies movement speed and simultaneously putting a slow effect on the enemies would as you say basically immobilize them while your range characters pick them off from a distance. If you're using table top tweaks mod you could even throw a rime spell meta magic into the mix. So ice storm would place difficult terrain, entangle enemies, and cast slow on them simultaneously. It might be something fun to try, especially since most of my playthroughs are incredibly melee heavy.
Looks like its no longer possible to stack draconic bloodlines. What would you suggest instead? Mythic spell focus at 4 and Greater Abundant at 5 now?

Hi! I've been really enjoing your videos for a while now. Consider yourself a reason i went from normal to core difficulty) I've been wondering what is the best way to build a martial class using elven curve blade, since it is a finnese weapon, but a two-handed one, and what is the way to go STR or DEX (considering elves STR has penalty)/ Anyway, great vids, keep it up!

1.Ring if Demon for +5x Demon Rage/day uses
2. Amulet if Blaster Caster with element spells
3. Belt for the rest
Hi! Love the build. Was wondering why we are taking Metamagic Bolster when we have Burning Hands, Fireball, and Chain Lightning? Wouldn't it make more sense to pick Selective Metamagic?
Aoe is not the point. Bolster adds +2 damage per die. It's almost as good as Maximize (which adds 2.5 per die on average in case of d6) but costs only one spell level instead of 3. Look 30:41 for example - "Base value: +80" is bolster's effect. Selective is good early game for things like winter's grasp but later you're gonna need bolster anyway for damage. On the other hand, selective is not as useful at higher levels considering your main offensive spells are going to be chain lightning and negative eruption. But if you feel like you can spare a feat i guess you can take both 🤷♀
Hi there! Bolster is picked because it's a further boost to damage (which damage spells REALLY need in the game due to how high enemy HP can get), while the AoE spells can be properly aimed at enemies only.

Visuals for spells will not change, however the death animation will, for example, you can see enemies being frozen + shattering with either Cold Hellfire Ray, Chain Lightning or Burning Hands in this video.
Hmm, did I miss it, or you did not mention "Rod of Mortiferous Blizzard" as an early game (and actually not only early after the latest update) item?
Argh the wicked dope staff looks like a must have and have missed that on all my builds! I dont tend to use dmg spells really more CC.
I went with a crossblooded sorc, undead ice dragon for a build so far so good. You right ice storm sucks.
It's indeed the BEST staff for damage casters in the game!
By the way, Plague of Madness' description is misleading. This behaviour i'll describe below may or may not be intended, though i think it's a bug. Regardless of that, I'm just going to share what i've discovered through experimentation.
The staff keeps separate variables for each spell, disregarding metamagic (i.e. fireball and bolstered fireball share the same variable). When you cast the spell, its corresponding variable is increased by one. Then, if the variable's value is 3 or higher, it subtracts 3 from it and activates the effect (that the next spell is empowered and maximized). To behave as one would expect from the description it should set all the other variables to zero, but it doesn't. Switching to the other weapon, on the other hand, sets all the variables to zero but keeps the activated effect.
This means that it can be chained. To do that, you need to cast every spell you intend to use in battle twice, and then cast a cantrip three times. After that, you may cast all these spells in any order in battle, and they all will be empowered and maximized. This chain can be as long as the number of different spells you have plus one.
Oh, and unlike metamagic rods this staff considers Zippy Magic to be two separate casts. So normally it applies metamagic to only one of them. To apply it to both, you need the spell's variable to be 2 and to activate the staff's effect though cantrip or some other spell. Then the first cast gets empowered, and increases the counter from 2 to 3, activating the effect again for the second cast.

Fireball is gained at level 7 for free with this build due to the Red Salamander Ring, which can be bought as early as Chapter 2 from the Cleric at your Camp, or at Chapter 3, also from a Cleric merchant in the main city.

would you mind explaining why unearthly cold would nerf our damage? it is still cold damage after all just bypassing any resistances. Yes I understand ascendant element being too good to pass with all the resistances around and that it makes UEC redundant but it wouldn't reduce our damage (apart from opportunity cost of not putting the lvls elsewhere)
I believe it's because it interferes with Metamagic, so "less" will be Maximized & Empowered.

Missing Arcane Annihilation robe for that +1 damage per die overkill. You can get it by respec'ing into arcane trickster, recieving the gift from Lady O, and then respec'ing back into whatever your actual build is.
Chain lightning is a funny spell. I dread the day when they fix the damaged cap. Hopefully, there are uncapped damage dice mods by then.

@@cRPGBro Only Arcane Tricksters can get it, and one level in it is enough to get the Ambrosial Attire of Arcane Annihilation. I just think of it as a one level dip that grants +1 damage per dice, +4 AB to Ray attacks, +4 Spell Pen.
Could you do Trickster and put points into world and athletics for the tricks?
I have done Trickster Builds with that before, but for this character I wouldn't really recommend it.

How do I use the extra burning hands from sorcerer? My sorcerer spell book shows I still have 4/4, but I can't figure out how to switch to it in combat.
Your burning hands spell from sorcerer has 4 casts that are independent from withch's burning hands. Meaning you can cast 4 burning hands with sorcerer, and 4 more with witch.

Unfortunately I don't think the game currently works this way. The game only shows I have my witch casts (4x). After that, I have no more casts even though my sorcerer slots are still full (4/4).
Maybe it's a bug? That or I have no idea how to switch to my sorcerer spell book :/

Same here...At the character screen, burning hands shows 4/4 (Witch) and the 4/4 (Sorcerer), but after resting, only the 4/4 from Witch are available to cast. For kicks I loaded an old save and took magic missle instead of burning hands for the Sorcerer spell. After resting, sure enough 4/4 burning hands (Witch) and 4/4 magic missle (Sorcerer) were available to cast. Could be cockpit error but maybe the game is bugged?

Does the undead sorcerer bloodline allow you to cast heroic invocation and legendary proportions on your lich party members or is it still borked?
These spells thankfully work regardless on Undead party members, like Heroism & Heroic Invocation.
Legendary won't work though because it specifically cannot target Undead.

A shaman can get an extra +1 damage through the relic shield but isn't spontaneus so has worse spell selection (imo), Ofc angel just wrecks. There is something to be said about going legend since you can keep your lich spells. I used to like the ear-piercing scream necklace before they made something to good for the neck slot, uncapped level 1 spells are rare after all.
Do you not need weapon focus for shatter defence to work? I would also suggest picking sirocco instead of icy prison for a much better aoe cc
I've tried it with Ember from Loremaster Shatter Defenses and it was working just fine without Weapon Focus.

I believe Azata, because while you have less CL for Chain Lightning damage, being able to hit every enemy TWICE with it more than makes up for that, especially with easier conversion to Fire, as there are way more items that boost Fire damage than Cold.
How did you get your plagued of madness staff to look like that?
Nowadays you can receive a Reforger Golem NPC for free that lets you chance the look Weapon/Gear into that of another one of same type.
I'm currently lvl 5, Is winters grasp very important for this build? I don't really feel like buying the dlc for it but if not having it gimps it I might respect. (playing on hard)
Winter's Grasp is quite good because it's actually a Cold spell.
I wouldn't say it's necessary for the build however, because you get elemental conversion into Ice anyways from Cross Blooded Sorc at level 2.
Another distinctive build friend. Do you believe it is possible to give this build to nenio and be viable as you recrui her at level 3 but it is the only party member with high intelligence.
It can be done, but ideally it would be best to respec her from level 1 through a mod, as delayed caster progression can be very annoying.

Lich/Angel just have an easier time during Chapter 3 because of the massive boost that Spellbook Merge is.

Are you sure unearthly cold is bad ? I'm new to the pathfinder logic but if for example we deal 1000 DMG cold vs a resistance of 50% we deal 500 DMG . With that perk we deal 500 +(500/2,) DMG so 750 DMG wouldn't it be a win , or the different instance of DMG have a different miss possibility?
you can have 1 mythic that makes all cold unresistable, without 10 levels in winter witch
It is "bad" in that it doesn't interact well with Metamagic, reducing the damage.

Gear DOES increase the damage of blaster caster builds a lot.
Also, did you properly apply Bolster + Empower + Maximize metamagic?
With the Plague of Madness Staff it's very easy to get free Empower + Maximize once per battle.
Its okay with Ray spells, im just not getting the aoe damage. I went with angel as you said, cuz i wanted the Elsa way. i was expecting drop in damage, but not that drastic. I applied just Bolster for now and heighten.
Blaster caster as a fire lord with azata was awesome and felt really powerful.
Looking forward for more caster builds, really loving these guides. Especially Aeon or angel that just feel similiar to these two.
Hey I don't have winter's grasp, bone fists, and strand of the tangled knot in my spell book. As in I don't see them available to be picked. I followed the guide to a T. I have the DLC downloaded. Am I missing anything? Currently a level 9 LLG Witch about to spec into a winter witch.
Try creating a new character. Do you have Shifter on the list of available classes? If not, then you probably don't have the right DLC after all. You can also check Camellia's spellbook, she should have all three of these spells if they're available at all.
These all come from Shifter DLC, so if you already have it, I believe they should be available.
Even characters that already know all spells like Camellia or Sosiel got those spells once I added the DLC.

Tried to make this charaacter today, the game will not let me select a spell for Spell Specialization at level 1. I click on it and it does not open a drop down to select a spell for me to continue making the character. I cant find anything online, please help
The same thing happened to me. Did you solve the problem?
On reddit they say it never worked att level 1 so this is probably a mod that allows it. In default game you still don't know any spell yet (spell selection is a bit after in the sequence) so the closest you can select the specialization is level 3
Notice how he haven't selected any spell yet on the top bar yet for the purpose of feat selection he already knows two fire spells.
So with the default game rules for a cold caster, having to pick burning hands (which is a 3d6 spell by now) to upcast it to 5d6 is still not bad , but not even as good as what he does on his videos.

Do not MC at level 2. The bonuses from cold damage do not out weigh the benefit of spell progression and a hex, and you do not actually gain any extra casts from picking BH with another class (that's not how MC with spontaneous casters works in PF).
You are better off waiting until around mythic level 1 to MC since cold damage is lackluster in most encounters (even early game) and really only becomes useful after ascendant element.

Thankfully Seelah only leaves even Lich at Chapter 5, but that point you are more powerful than enough to make up for no Mark of Justice, hehe.

Shaman can become a Lich, but cannot MERGE with Lich for far better spellcasting.
Only full Arcane casters can merge with Lich, like Witch, Wizard, Arcanist & Sorcerer.

I feel like you're really underrating selective spell here.
Lich has many debilitating AOEs that knock down/do annoying ability damage. Being able to selective spell at level 7 to get a set it and forget it winter's grasp is super helpful, even into the late game. Not to mention your damage at level 7 isn't worth bolstering anyway.
I would even take it at level 5 and spam grease/selective grease every encounter.
Dang you could do this as a male litch and it's perfect for a Nightking from Game of Thrones Roleplay lol

Hey, cRPG_Bro, I was kinda curious if you're planning on doing a non-merged Angel build? You kinda did something like this back in your Paladin video but that was more of a class guide. Or is the issue that for non-full divine caster Angel is inferior compared to other mythic options?
I've done Angel Reformed Fiend Bloodrager Angel too.
But yes, usually for non full Divine Casters, Angel will often be an inferior option to other Mythics, especially Trickster, because unlike non merged Lich, the bonuses take a while to get good, usually around M6-7 which is Chapter 4 only.

I was wondering the same thing and would tend to say yes as you will have very good DC (leyline is int based). But haven’t tried.
Demon can provide extra damage through Brimorak Aspect, but I'd say the build is vastly better as either merged Angel (Shaman) or Lich (Witch).
do you have fun if everyone of your builds insta-wipes rooms? I'm a bit reluctant of starting the game, it looks a bit cheese-able, but probably you're just a master at the game and make it look easy
Well, insta wiping everyone on the room is more of an upper mid game/late game thing (or earlier with Angel and Lich).
The game however is very customizable for all sorts of playstyles, including difficulty options as to how tough the enemies are!
Look at the crazy amount of options for classes and builds. You have all the control over difficulty to keep your build on curve. Your game experience in PF is in your control. UA-cam vids will def do better if they are very strong. Late game PF, you are a max level max mythic being in a world where you have few if any rivals... Things should be getting blown up at that point, it is part of the power fantasy adventure, starting out as a level 1 scrub.
This build reminds me of a mirrored version of ember instead of being all about good and using fire as your main spells instead your all about being evil and using cold

It can work for a merc too, but ideally it is better for a main character because you can then merge with Lich/Angel if Shaman or even go Azata.
I think you did a good job making the prestige class work, but its a shame the class and cold spell selection is so subpar. As a practical matter its always better to go elemental specialist fire.

Sadly there is no way to compete with Fire spells, and if they ever nerf Chain Lightning, non Mythic AoE damage outside of Azata.
Thankfully it's very easy to convert it all to Ice!
@@cRPGBro True, but even then, if you are going to convert to an element, fire trumps cold for two reasons. Firstly, you can take up to 3 fire dragon bloodlines with second bloodline and a crossblooded dip adding +3 per damage dice (which is why I would prefer elemental specialist as the caster to focus on so a bloodline isnt spent on converting damage types, and prepared casters work better for metamagic also), and secondly, the gear to support fire is a quite a bit better. Ring of pyromania and milander's insult boost fire spells substantially, especially scorching and hellfire ray, or burning arc and chain lightening with zippy magic. And lategame, treacherous flame is an easy way almost any party can reliably apply fire vulnerability against any sneak attack vulnerable enemy, which is a very substantial damage increase. I havent tried it, but if it works with surprise spells, you could even get this applied in an AOE.
I certainly hope they dont level cap spells like battering blast (which works very well with lich caster level and death rush) and chain lightening, though I cannot imagine this was intended. It seems weird that chain lightening is so much stronger with the right build than spells of a significantly higher level. Personally, I would rather see level caps removed from many other spells. Maybe a mythic feat that allows for raising the level scaling of spells by 50%, so 10d6 is raised to 15d6 and 20d8 raised to 30d8 and so on.
@@cRPGBro suprisingly....no. it's counterintuitive, but cold specialization actually could do more damage than fire(well, not exacly, but easier to proc), but it require more setup in term of feats.
we can add +1 per dice from coldbite shield (essentially compensation for lacking of third dragon bloodline),
+2 from armor achievable easily because of cold ray cantrip, which coud be casted on you to proc effect(or white dragon armor).
I made shaman/1 CB sorc/loremaster. shaman because divine caster and acces to medium armor, great drawback is that loremaster is MANDATORY to pick misssing important spells. Other way is to pick witch, but compensate spell failure (sadly does not work for shield penalty), feat tax for medium armor/precise shot could be redused by 1 via loremaster combat feats

Yes, as Zippy Magic can highly increase damage later.
But Lich or Angel has way more earlier power due to merging.

It splits the damage in two "equal" parts, but for whatever stupid reason the second part does not benefit from metamagic at all. Also, cause it's not cold damage, it's not subject to cold vulnerability you can apply as a lich. As a result, your chain lightning deals like 600 cold damage and 180 direct damage, while it could be 1200 cold.
The same problem with Elemental Specialist's level 15 btw.

@@comicstrider4851 In a way that it doesn't get bolstered, or empowered, or maximized. It just doesn't, as if you never used them. Meanwhile the "cold" part still gets them just fine. For the cold damage lich, it makes you lose 35% of your damage if we take cold vulnerability into consideration. If we don't, or if it's any other elemental build (fire damage azata for example), the damage loss is "only" about 27%.
Yes, if you use Elemental Specialist as your main spellcasting class, make sure it never hits level 15 - by switching to loremaster for example, or any other prestige class that continues your spellcasting progression.
