Majula was always different than firelink shrine. Firelink was a constant reminder of duty, majula, let you forget about that for a while and just live, focus on what is important. Majula was a place where you could just stare off forever, reminding you that the world was out there, there was a future, a literal and metaphorical horizon to look out to.
Here where I live there is a place similar to Majula, a beach with big rocks there are some unused buildings, few ppl came here to walk or watch the sea. And there is a small church and a statue of the virgin Mary thats reminds me to Emerald Herald. And this song come to my mind when I visit this place.
I've been playing Dark Souls 2 once or twice every year since 2018. Maybe even more times, I don't really know. All I know is that listening to this feels like reaching home. It'll forever be my favorite game of all time.
- busting my ass off in the arena to get the bright red glow as a phantom - invading countless sinners as a blue phantom to get the bright blue glow - sitting next to the bonfire in the bell keeper areas, waiting for a chance to invade trespassers - luring trespassers in the rat areas and unlocking every trap - putting on the jester costume and the warmth spell, hosting iron bridge fight clubs all day long and getting all the rewards of the killed phantoms - trying time and time again the no death no bonfire challenge, succeeding in doing it on multiple characters - getting to ng+30 on one character - leaving my character afk in Majula and going to sleep while listening to the ambience, then start playing as soon as I wake up I think I managed to rank up 1000 hours between 2014-2017. It was fun man, it was fun. I wish everyone would pick this game back up during Christmas, so we all get the chance to experience the countless summoning signs at iron bridge.
I really enjoyed the game a lot more than the first Dark Souls which everyone says is the best and Dark Souls 3 I'll go back to someday but I didn't get very far in that one because I just couldn't find a weapon I liked. I never got invaded once probably because I was playing in 2023 but I still really had fun. There were negative things in the game I didn't like such as the healing flasks making you not move but I ended up ignoring the flasks and just used the little crystals the lady gave you because you could use them while moving it also got it a bit silly because I realised you could carry 99 of them so basically just had infinite healing.
Even though I'd argue that 3 is a higher quality game (simply because of technical and mechanical advancements made), it never had a place to call home like Majula. Always loved this place.
@@CrimsonContrast for me it’s dark souls 1 fire link. It’s calm like this. Sure it’s clunky but it’s special for me. I played when I was deep in depression, and it hit home right there. The going hollow turned into a message for me to not give up.
Dark Souls 1 has this existential sadness to it but still a vibe of “keep going, finish it” Majula feels like being able to breathe a little, small places in the world where there’s still beauty and safety. Dark Souls 3 feels like the world truly ended and people forgot to die. Not a kingdom in decline, not the end of a cycle, just a stasis as if the world is the becoming once again like it was before the kindling of the first flame. The world is ash, it feels like The Road
This music has reminded me that my father was playing this game when I was very little. This music touches me deeply… and gives me feel nostalgic and peaceful so much. Thanks for great work
If you ever make another version of this, consider having Lenigrast working in the background as well. It doesn't have to be all that loud or noticeable, but his "ting, ting, ting" added just as much to the soundscape as the bonfire and ocean waves did.
Coming back to this 6 months later, sometimes I like to rest my eyes as this plays on my phone. Maybe someday I'll *actually* have 100 Majula hours lol
You can think about this location as your home, your checkpoint, the place where do you go from to everywhere in the game, it has a nostalgic ambience but also a peaceful aura brought by the different npcs that stay there, the way they interact with you and the tones used in the scenary, everything is just as it should from my point of view. Thanks for this, it´s just perfect.
Majula is comforting it's such a nice place and coming back to it is like coming home if you look through the character's eyes for him it must be a blessing to be able to come back to majula.
Ok wow this is the definitive version, now the loop is great to listen to, the adding of the background fire, waves and wind is just top notch!! Great work!!!
"oh, is that a shard you've found?" "Hmph, I'd given you up for dead. Almost had me worried, really…" "Oh, fancy meeting you here. Speak up if you need anything at all. Alright?"
Never played any dark souls game but one day I came across this soundtrack when I was reading the mangas for miyatoto mushashi and let me just say it fits perfectly
I know there's a lot of darksouls2 haters but not me i really enjoyed it especially majula where i can feel peace... I miss playing darksouls... I'll play it as soon as my PC gets fixed or just buy a new one
I played through SotFS when it first released while my wife was pregnant with our first born. I would sit on the couch in the living room with her curled up on my lap with a blanket over her. Whenever I'd get to Majula to level up or buy things, she would ask me to rub her temples or her back and she would fall asleep within a few minutes. To this day she still says this song makes her sleepy

I wish there were some housing mods for DSII, imagine being able to cook in the manor and stuff like that and chill out .

I concur. Though 6 months later not much hope.

"100."

The music feels so calming, but even though it’s the same. It doesn’t quite feel the same if you aren’t actually there in the game.

I love Majula's theme but that ending part that shows up at 2:47 ruins it as an ambient for me, it always wakes me up.
