Just picked one up and i prefer it to my old 909 with its flexibility, it is so close and built very well. Use a Audio splitter to the desk and set channels for each instrument , track, loop whatever is a good unit and more.
Nice comparison. The TR-09 has the option to add a compressor to the kick and snare, so it is likely that your machine had the compression settings pretty high, but you can turn it completely off and it will sound exactly like the TR-909, and it has more "hidden" parameters to tune most of the instruments up and down, and change the gain, release, panning and some other things. The TR-09 it's a pretty powerful emulation of the 909 but some people hate it because it's small and digital, completely ignoring all the extra features packed in that tiny box. Thanks for the video!
i own 3 909's a rd9 a tr09 which is fiddly to use but if i want a quick loop making i use it and i own the tr8 which the black and green is horrid but it works the rd9 is good for the money who has £5000 for a battered tr 909.
It remains a matter of personal taste and workflow. We personally don‘t really catch up with the new Roland stuff. But of course, you can also produce with it on a professional level. Stefan also has a TR-8s in his studio and uses it frequently.
Awesome comparison! The original 909 has older components that can affect some aspects of it sound, even 2 909 won't sound the same and there was 2 revisions of it with different capacitors shaping the filtering of some sounds. RD9 does not have the white noise Tr09=garbage, not for being digital, because all the things you name it, (Roland shame on you) Great channel! Cheers
Thanks for your comment. But on 4:38 I hear the 909 Kick. Actually during those recordings we had a lot more to fight with noise on the TR-909 mains. On the other hand there is a very low noise hiss on the clap of the RD-9. A bit like a spring reverb in the tail of the sound. I think we made a remark about this in the first video.
I'm not quite as grumpy as Stefan, but the TR-09 still drives me crazy. The Micro-B power connector is ridiculous. And it's a drum machine FFS. It would be better to remove MIDI than to remove the individual outputs. At least you can get one individual output. You can pan the kick left and pan every other instrument right. But you can do that with the TR-6S, so you might as well use a TR-6S. The best feature of the TR-08 and TR-09 is the trigger output which has its own track. Then you can use an MBase11 for your kick and you don't have to worry about it being digital or not having a separate kick output. I don't mind using digital synths, but on something you want to compress and overdrive like a kick, that's when you can really tell the difference with analog. Even an RD-9 sounds great going through old guitar pedals. It's magical when you find sweet spots in an analog FX chain with an analog kick or bass mono synth.
Nothing sounds like the original. When you want to save money and still want a realistic 909-ish machine, I'd go with either the Steda SR-909 or the RE-909 made by DinSync. Both fabulous projects imho. #StedaSR909 #DinSyncRE909 #TR909
I've got all 3 and the Tr09 in your test was propably high frequency filtered because your friend hate it No way its sounds like there's no life... Come on man...😂 The TR-09 is the closest to the Tr909 but has different options added. The Behringer rd909 is awesome but a little different. Take the compression and the freq shelving down and you'll get a real comparison
@@winesynthsthat’s a very good question, I guess we won’t know for about other 30+ years but by then none of us would care anymore 😂 anyway I love your channel and it’s honesty I subscribed ❤
Damn, you have to feel sorry for anybody that spent money on a TR-09. Sounds afwul. Roland should hang their heads in shame with that one. Great video though!
The TR 09 sounds super clean, no white noise in the background, it's probably the winner here.

Audio Splitter 🤔 brilliant idea!

Good one guys ! Did you checkwd Artruria drum impact? What do you think ?
the tr09 sounded like it had more swing on it than the others? great video. made me laugh
cool! I am looking forward to a future episode in the next couple of weeks!

Ah!

Very useful video, thank you for your efforts. Any thoughts on the Roland Tr6s/Tr8s 909 sounds?

Let's do a shoot out between all known 909 VSTs, with a TR-909 please. lol
thank you for the vid!!
Wondering when you compare 3 same drummachines but probably the same sound or not?
Awesome comparison!

Such a great upload very funny. 909 always sits in its smokers chair with all it's wisdom and mellowness bless it.
you done it excellent :) and thank you, you helped me to decide which one `i will take :)
macht doch bitte mal tr-09 vs tr8s
Och nöö! 😁🌻🍀
4:38 the RD-9 has a ground loop or something else effecting the audio OUT ): its like this for all the tests, a high pitch hiss

Dankeeee!!! 🤩
hi the boutique has a built inn compressor Coulter it had being left on on the kick drum?
Yeah! I also think that it might be my mistake! As far as, I'm not used to have them built in! 😄
If you cannot afford a TR-909, just get some samples and load the to your Octatrack. lol

Its design was for Studio LAPTOP hook up and more flexibility, it is a dark horse unit IMO.
Did you use TR-909 own sequencer or midi, the groove is out of place
Its all running on internal sequencers. Except the VST of course.

you're right, it doesn't sound the same, it sounds even better
when you want to save money you go with rd 9 without any doubt

Audio realism all the way.
The pirate should had been another tr909! Because no 2 sound exactly the same based on the circuitry and components, just a small fact.
That‘s true! How would two different RD-9 sound? 🤔

TR 909 hands down the champion
With just the Clap I can tell you the really 909. lol
The tr09 sound so muddy…to much 40/60 hertz in my ears, it’s really anoying
pointless exercise
anything can be sampled where you wouldnt know the difference
sample it, its 2023 not 1980
I actually like the TR-09. And I like it more than the Behringer 😛
I never said, that people with a strange taste did not exist! 😁 But if you feel good with it and produce the sound you like, everything is fine! 🤖
I don't live analogue modeling. It does not sound as good. VSTs sound better. lmao

I don't think they should , its a great bit of Studio tech.
