Against A Dark Background

Against A Dark Background is the final new piece of music from 2024, written during the latter half of '24 and recorded on November 15.
The piece is comprised of five conceived ideas plus an improvisation at the end. The first 3 minutes are based upon an 'A-B' form. The next segment at 3'05" evolved from a bass, LH part that is also featured as a melody. At 4'44" we play another 'A-B' form that alternates between 7/8 and 17/8, a complex rhythm that Dean created. We return to the 17/8 to conclude the tune with an improvisation based on chords from the opening.
The bass was recorded first so that we could play along with it in our headphones. The congas were added by Dean last. The rest is performed live.
