French became the third official language of the East African Community (alongside Swahili and English) in February 2021, when the giant French-speaking neighbouring DRC joined the Community in March 2022.
The rise of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will automatically galvanize a need for mastery of French for those who want to trade better with the French-speaking countries of Central, West and North Africa.
