Does anybody know why Windows 10 connects okay but Windows 7 not? I've tried to connect in 2 pcs running windows 7 in different companies.
Monitoring the connections in the firewall, Windows 10 connects by using GRE (protocol) and PPTP (port 1723).
Windows 7 tries to connect under UDP 500 and 4500 but it does not conclude the connection.
Firewall Ok (also I've tried disabled, although it was not necessary).
Windows 2016 not a DC!!!
Overall this was a pretty good demo. One key thing you should add though if you're looking for a "quick and dirty" method..... your demo fails to provide any insight on Windows Firewall settings which may need to be adjusted to allow for connectivity over the web. Maybe perhaps just checking the inbound rules for the "Routing and Remote Access" protocols can help to better aid with setting up this configuration
Also the other user made an excellent point - test this completely OFF the network. Otherwise what's the point? 🙂

Thank you Thank you Thank you! This is for a class project. I am trying to set up a basic windows file server behind my xfinity router. I have the virtual machines set up. Now the VPN is working on my virtual network. Net I just need to get the correct port forwards on my router to my virtual server. You video helped so very much.
Please explain what to do if the server behind a firewall, like internet routers that we use nowadays.
You had the courage to take a stab at it. To critique, it would have been helpful to demonstrate a working example with a home router. Nevertheless, great work man, this is why I'm subscribed.

awesome explanation... Now after the connection to the server (WS 2016) is done (from W10 computer), I can map a network drive (NET USE ...) when I am inside my network, but when I have to come in over the internet, the NET USE does not work. Any idea why? (System error 53).

So i want to use a vpn from my laptop (in school)to my server at home runing windows server 2016 to acces to internet so i can bypass all those blocked websites how do i do that? seems like this would be a totaly difrent vpn

If I want to connect from work. What port does this setup use? (I watched another setup video where he configured certificates, but it was just too hard and it didn't work. I could connect but got errors when connecting.) (With this configuration I opened port 443 in my router but now the connection doesn't even work.)

I have setup that VPN but my VPN client is only able to ping private IP of VPN server. Not able to ping / access any of the other servers in the remote LAN, I means VPN client is not able to access all other servers / PC in VPN server’s LAN.

Is there a different if you configure VPN with Administrators group but no with AD Certificate?

So where you put 10.10.10.100 to 10.10.10.111, can I put that or do I need to put another IP Address?
Both network are same that’s why it’s working. If you change any of server or client network it will not work.

Hello. I've the problem that Windows show me after trying to connect to my server that maybe the GRE 47-protocoll it doesn't supported by my network driver. How can I solve it?
hi there great video. However would you know how to connect to a vpn outside the network. I have open the vpn ports but the client computer does not want to except my user name and password.

is the VPN server on your WAN or DMZ network switch? does it have a private IP address that can be use connected outside your network?

so you have to type different logins and passwords when you create VPN connection on w7. but what if different users using that comp? do you have to create different VPNs or there is another way?
The connection is the same for each user BUT the account will always be different-so different password. Just like an active directory password.

@Cüneyt Korkmaz I changed my DNS settings on my wireless adapter (I am using a VM for testing before I do things on my server), I can access the internet on the VM now, but when I connect my PC to the VPN, the internet is still disabled I used 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
