Hoping to pick up some dark rafiagrass at our woods and water outdoors show next week ...... Gotta fill mine in a little. I'm definitely going to modify it for the dog..... Great video
I got the h12 back in July and love it. Haven’t got the blind yet, hopefully by the time duck season is here I will have it. I have been taking it out to see what it can handle. Very stable, I have taken it in 20mph wind and handled great. Rowed with the waves, against, into, at angles and was stable. The fastest I have gotten it was 5mph, and it was all I could do to get there. Average is 3mph. Your not gunna win any races but you will get there. I will have about a 1-2 mile treck and across open water depending on how much rain we get. The roads get pretty muddy and hard to travel.
You're not supposed to think it through like that. You're spose to go "cool I'll buy two". Imagine your dog had to fetch six times. My dog brings about a gallon of water into the boat each trip.
Great video! I purchased the kayak and blind last season and look forward to using it again. What made you decide to put an additional drag handle at each end? Thanks!
I helped Yak Gear improve on their design for their new and improved layout blind. It will be out in October. I just got mine the other day. It's a great blind.
I am just curious how stable this thing is compared to a four rivers layout or something of that sort? This thing is obviously a lot cheaper for my budget!! Lol
All of our layout hunting is in shallow water. So they just jump back in. I wouldn't hunt if it were over my head. If it were waist deep I would either pull her in by the collar or get out and help her back in.
Last year I shot at a goose from a NuCanoe Kayak I was leaning back to far to the side after I shot my gun I flipped over into the river lost my NEW AUTO SHOTGUN and my paddle, it was in February about 20 degrees out I had my chest waters on I was very scared, lucky my friend was on the bank he had to run to his house to get a rope to pull me in lucky the Kayak did not get away from me or I would not be here right now. river was about 10 to 12 feet deep. so im looking at the H12 Ascend sit in, im thinking this wont happen with this being a sit inside VS sitting on top of the Frontier 12 Kayak.. we are both 60 years old..
A really nice video Elliott. The kind that is USEFUL to duck hunters and would be buyers; its not a run on product endorsement commercial. Well done-
Tom Kat thank you!
That layout lounge would make things a lot more comfortable.
Nice video of the kayak! I have the same setup minus the modifications you've made. Very versatile piece of equipment

Awesome video, Elliot. The grass looks great!
I just wanna know are there ever any naps taken before it’s shooting time
They also fit the 12t which I have and it’s for sure the best move for duck hunting
The video I've been waiting for
Nice. Might invest in one next season. We currently have a 14ft canoe and a otter stealth 2000 for small areas if we aren’t using a big boat.
I have about 500$ saved up, I was already looking into the h12. You completely sold me on it!!! Awesome video.
This I great. I wish I could afford that boat!
Keep up the great work 👍
Two questions. How do u get the dog back in the kayak while afloat? And where do u hide/store the paddle while hunting?
You're not supposed to think it through like that. You're spose to go "cool I'll buy two". Imagine your dog had to fetch six times. My dog brings about a gallon of water into the boat each trip.

Great video! How well does the layout lounge work in regular layout blinds?
Surviving Duck Season yes! As long as you can release the backrest so it isn’t firmly tightened.
@@FreelanceDuckHunting great, may have to try one out!
I have a Carstens mallard boat. Do you think this set up would work on that. Trying to figure out the best way to turn this into a layout
Elliot, how do you keep the boat stable when you're in say 2 ft of water? Do you use any kind of anchoring system?
We never lay out in open water because it isnt a good enough hide to finish mallards. There's always vegatation around us to keep the boat in place.
Have you ever looked at the Carsten duck boats? I’ve had the Mallard for nearly 29 years
Yes, We've had the pintail and the puddler. Both good boats but a bit heavy.
@@FreelanceDuckHunting yes my mallard is 100# not fun dragging it far but it will haul a lot of decoys and gear.
We need lighter boats for what we do but those are good boats
Awesome vid you do greatwork
have you checked out NuCanue?
ive heard good things about NuCanue but have no personal experience with it.
What are the fittings called that you used and where did you buy them at, for your dog blind area?
Bimini boat fittings

The redhead blinds for the H12 are no longer available. Any good replacements you are aware of?

Probably not quit as stable of a four rivers but if someone wanted to trade a four rivers for my h12 I'd say no.
@@FreelanceDuckHunting haha ok thanks for the reply!! Still trying to decide what to do!! Lol
Does the blind roll up and buckle all the way around for paddling?
yes it does. It paddles with no issues.
Does this setup with your mods work on your Old Town 119?
Finally found a kayak in stock (Ascend 12T at bass pro) and now the Redhead Blind is out of stock. Can't win in 2020.
Northern flight makes a good one for the 12t
@@christiandavis599 thanks! But out of stock too...
How does it handle light to moderate current? Especially paddling up stream?
Brock Eaton handles great in current. I’ve paddled it up river on the Kansas river during low water
Thanks...that's Excatly what I was wanting to know
How do u get the dog back in after she jumps out for a bird
All of our layout hunting is in shallow water. So they just jump back in. I wouldn't hunt if it were over my head. If it were waist deep I would either pull her in by the collar or get out and help her back in.
Elliot how do you get Izzy to rest on your shoulders?
I don’t know. She has just always done it.
where is the link to buy the redhead blind for the
H12 Ascend
The only place that sells it is Bass Pro and Cabellas
Is there any stability issues while paddling and sitting on that 2x4? Does Fumblemitts also use that? I have not yet paddled with the blind on it yet.
I should have shown it. But you need to have your knees in the floor when you use the 2/4 for the seat.
Okay so you’re still sitting down inside the kayak just on your knees then.
Yes, but with the HTR layout lounge you can just sit back and paddle. No other seat needed. 2/4 only used when not using the layout pad.
Do you have to deal with a lot of water accumulating in the kayak from the dogs getting in and out?
It’s not bad at all
Keep a large sponge under your seat to wring out every so often to keep it in check.
I hunt in a jon boat. The answer is yes. My dog brings about a gallon per retrieve.
Do you think this blind fit on the H10? Or would I have to trim the blind skirt?
It would fit just fine
Freelance Duck Hunting thanks!!! Hope all is well! Love yalls Live Vids
How much of the Avery grass do you have on there?
A lot
Do you know if they discontinued the redhead yak blinds? I can’t find them anywhere.
They are hard to find. Yakgear has a blind that works as well
Freelance Duck Hunting Well I found my issue, they’re called Cabela’s Northern Flight now. The more you know
Which width layout lounge do you go with 18 or 24
24 inch
do you put facepaint on the dog?
With the dog hood there's really no reason to do that.
Last year I shot at a goose from a NuCanoe Kayak I was leaning back to

river was about 10 to 12 feet deep. so im looking at the H12 Ascend sit
in, im thinking this wont happen with this being a sit inside VS sitting
on top of the Frontier 12 Kayak.. we are both 60 years old..
That would never happen in the H12.
Dog farts are the worst!
As Izzy has gotten old her farts 💨 are just disgusting!!
