Great review, Bro! I’m considering purchasing this lens for my BMPCC4K I’m going to shoot my features with this one lens. What is your thoughts on filming a feature using just this one lens? Thank you
Thanks for watching. I'm all for shooting on a single lens. Not sure if you watched my latest Sirui Saturn review but I was going to shoot the entire short film with the 35mm until the Director moved to Thailand. A lot of famous directors have preferred focal lengths that they often stick to for an entire movie. The Godfather was shot entirely on a 40mm.
I will say, the Pro Mist gave it a really distinct look. I know a lot of people are up in arms over this being called an anamorphic lens but in the end, what matters is the look that you're going for right? Which Pro Mist filters do you use?
Ok here's the deal. I'm ready for my first cinema camera (BMPCC4k) for Shorts, Promo's & anything cinematic. I'm on a budget but still thinking going with the Sirui 50mm anamorphic would be the smartest thing to do considering i want to shoot cinema. Is there any other smart options i should be looking at?
I’d look into used lenses as an alternative option. The Sirui is going to limit you to shooting in the aspect ratio. I wouldn’t use it as my only lens.
Ozzy The Mighty it all depends on your budget. I shoot with a sigma 18-35mm and a speedbooster most of the time. Good coverage with one lens. If you’re looking to keep cost down, you can get used glass all day long at great prices. The Rokinon Cine lenses are crazy cheap and are very capable lenses. You can pick up a 35mm and a 50mm both for under $700 brand new, then get a speedbooster.
You mentioned putting this set up on a gimbal. Which stabilizer do you use and do you have the full cage with it? Would very much appreciate it, been tough picking one that can handle the cage setup
also about the focal length, for vertical focal length look, it is 100mm (50mm*2) however i think the horizontal focal length look is about 75mm (50mm*2/1.33)
@@joenicklo I played around with one at Uni, but I mistakenly recorded it at 4K DCI so in post I got very confused about aspect ratios, which in that case it became 2.66.
Unfortunately the bokeh is not very oval on the 50mm, and way less so on the new 35mm. I preordered the 35mm and I will be hacking it to add a 1.5x or 1.8x oval aperture plate. I will lose 1 stop of light, but I rather get it to look more anamorphic.
I likely should’ve done a spherical to anamorphic comparison. The thumbnail still you see can show you a good comparison versus the same scene in the video where I shot it on the Sirui. It’s definitely oval, just not very oval. Thanks for checking the video out!

What did you think of the example footage I shot on the Sirui 50mm Anamorphic?
So good! I want both a BMPCC and an anamorphic lens, so this is awesome. Perfect with the explanation of the lens and all the awesome test footage.
Thanks man, appreciate you checking it out. You know how I feel on the BMPCC so no need for me to try and sell ya anymore ;)
LOL, I can no longer tell if you're the master of color grading, or whether the BMPCC dynamic range is just that good 🤔
@@NewLayer Well, you know I'm color blind LMAO
Keep Grinding man! You are killin it.
Thanks! Love your channel guys
I like this lens with pro mist. It gives it a beautiful cinematic look!
I wish I had shot more with the promist.
You really knew how to use this lens right. I'm thinking about doing a quick rental from the same spot as well and test this thing out on my BMPCC4K

Good review, I have this lens and I agree with everything you said. It looks awesome with the Pro Mist filter.

@@joenicklo Tiffen 1/8 and 1/4
@@insanedb Heck yeah. I'll likely be picking up a set of filters for the matte box at some point. For now I just have the 1/4 Tiffen

I primarily use the MōVI Pro but I also use the Ronin S
Do you do noise reduction on you 3200 iso shots? If yes do you do it in Resolve or your NLE? Looks super clean.
Yes, I use NR in Davinci Resolve if needed. I don’t always though. I’ve got some shots in there that were 3200 iso and they still pretty clean.

Like I always say, this is why I surround myself with all of you guys who are smarter than me ;) Thanks for the info.
@@joenicklo haha
The bmpcc4k crop is actually 1.9x and not 2x. So with that math you're looking at 71mm.
@@alexshotthese thanks, didn't think of that
@@jamesshort6856 No problem. Excited to see more of the 35mm anamorphic lens. I feel like with that and the 50mm you'll cover a lot of ground!
1:00 It takes a 16:9 image, and squeezes the horrizontal by 1.33, so unstretched it becomes 2.364:1
Thanks harry

1.3 Anamorpic or 1.33 and why?

@r.h.6581 I don’t touch the pixel aspect ratio. The Komodo desqueezes in camera.
@@joenicklo the bmpcc4k desquezze also in camera. So I also don’t have to set it?
what is the mm of the tiffen?
82. Used a step up ring
