Were you out of focus while shooting with the Sirui? Or is the lens just very soft? I really can't tell, but the first lens you used seemed a LOT sharper.
I like the fact that they sealed it. Vacuum sealed is maybe over the top, but any form of seal that you have to break on products like these is welcome. It has always bothered me that expensive camera gear is pretty much never sealed. While at the same time a cheap mobile phone is.
I want one of these for a GH5 but I don't think anamorphic really lends itself to the documentary/news kinda stuff I do. Maybe I need to get into some narrative production?
It looks like they acquired the tooling for/copied the design of the original Optex adapters from the 2000s, and simply affixed them permanently onto a basic m4/3 prime lens design. I have a copy of that original Optex, and if you can find one, it gives you more options than the Sirui. I've tested mine on the Panasonic G7 with 14-42mm kit lens, which gives me some focal length range (though the long end can get weird), and when mounted on a Takumar 50/1.4 or comparable prime, works fine on Canon EF full frame and the G7 with speedbooster, with no vignetting. It looks very much the same, especially the flares.
And the 35mm is mount-swappable (again: not Fuji) but the 50mm f/1.8 is fixed to whatever you purchase it in. Also... 35mm gets you Sirui geared rings for the lens to work with follow focus systems.
So it's 1.33x, super35 sensor coverage, but... A m43 mount? Still waiting for an affordable 2x anamorphic 40mm lens with canon EF mount.. I mean, since I'm being unreasonable with the image I enjoy, I might as well wait until 3D printing replicators get to the point that a lens like that becomes more economically viable. Because... What I want from it is technically the flaws it brings.
Laowas are good. I got 15mm f4 and it is really good. Except the tilt shift is not that useful and the macro requires a bit of hard work to pull off. Other than that it is a quality wide angle lens.
This 35mm seems way more useful then the 50mm version in this affordable entry level anamorphic glass. Like stated best part of anamorphic is wider field of view, as long as your willing to give up some of the obvious image quality loss on this versus some of the finer M43 Leica glass avail on the market.
There are several adapters you can purchase to allow use on other mounts. If you google "Micro 3/4 to E-Mount adapter" you should find some pretty easily. Great for using vintage lenses as well!
I use a7III for a full sensor! It's not a problem! You use function ClearImage Zoom function( х 1,3!) The picture quality is not inferior to the original full frame lenses! I shoot a lot of videos already! ua-cam.com/play/PLSFGij8g4pLvD-D1UJgD_dTTqyebF2hzv.html
Since it's for crop sensors it's not ideal effort to use it on FF. If you are good on post production, you can almost achive anamorphic look with wider lens and some fish line hack. Sure you need to be professional on editing & color grading to do this. Plus we chose 1.5x and more instead of 1.33x for anamorphic lenses. IF...the price is suitable.
The biggest question of them all: Does anamorphic even make sense on a pixel based digital sensor? I mean, you cant get more vertical resolution out of a finite amount of pixels.
It's the cheapest to get that anamorphic look plus I think it's better to be manual controlled focus as the glare and flare might interrupt AF consistency :D
The vacuum sealing is quite a good idea. For whatever reason the major camera manufacturers can't even wrap their boxes in shrinkwrap, meaning any idiot in the warehouse or shop could have messed around with, dropped, or otherwise damaged the lens and put it right back, and you'd have no way of knowing until it bit you in the behind. At least if the lens is sealed you know no one has mounted it or smeared their greasy fingers over the glass.
I'm also stuck with a 60... No point in upgrading really since I only do shitty macro and harbor shots that don't even get uploaded to insta or anything.
Awesome. I have the Sirui 50mm version, and my 35mm will be shipping to me soon. I love what I've shot with the 50mm, so I am very excited for the 35mm. Thanks for the Sirui porn in the meantime.
What‘s the point of using an anamorphic lens on a small sensor, when you could just crop the image of a full frame picture with a regular lens? The FF crop should give the same perspective with better resolution. Just the weird bokeh and flares?
There’s the image distortion too. I’m not being mean or anything, but, what you said is like saying why shoot film when you could shoot digital then just add a bunch of filters to make it “film like”. It’s not the same. Btw, Students including me shoot videos 16:9 then crop it to 2.35:1 all the time haha.
Peterthehusky As I understand it, cropping the FF image should leave you with the exact same FOV, subject compression, perspective, as an anamorphic lens on an APS-C camera. Or what do you mean with distortion?
Hey bro hope you are well and having a great day so far. Just found you today and really pleased we have your videos are awesome bro. Fantastic editing skills and great footage bro. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Lol your so funny and entertaining love it. That is one hell of a camera. Keep up the great work my friend stay safe and catch up again real soon God bless you bro.
u could go the old school anamorphic way!get somebody on ebay to sell u a nice old 75mm or 135mm lens!it needs an ana adapter, but all ini all costs more than this for sure!
You can get something like a Sankor 16D I think, get an anamorphic clamp and put it on say a HELIOS 44-2 58mm f/2. That's about as budget as anamorphics get (true atleast, you can always anamorfake your way). But... I had a setup similar to that and it was a pain in the ass. This Sirui takes away dual focus and close focus/diopters headackes and gives it to you in a small and convenient package. For the price? Superb value!
Why are you amused about vacuum sealing? It makes a lot of sense - it undoubtedly prevents fungus growth while waiting to be sold, even if it is stored in a place with high humidity.
Been watching this genius for 10 years!
Yeah, dick jokes are the mark of a genius.
Drev tv 😂
KenyelxoTV I hope he will have the budget to make digitalrev type videos again. I miss the whole team
Its crazy how time flies
@@benjaminwilken4147 yeah thosecwere the good days, funny back then aswell
Anamorphic for less than $800? I'm sold. Thanks Kai!
Umm...when you open a vacuum sealed product, you're supposed to say "nice hiss".
Let's get this on a tray. Nice!
I'm so glad there's overlap between these two communities
MRE's are the best!
This ration has a dried coffee often found in this era.
cool I can now afford an anamorphic lens.... not gonna get one though
These lenses look incredible!
Really dials in the classic cinematic aesthetic.
Just wish something affordable like this could fill a full frame!
This lens works great on a full frame!
you must use the ClearImage Zoom function( х 1,3!) and no problem!
Learned photography watching Kai! Made learning entertaining
It’s so mad how grown up you’ve become... 9 years of watching you keep going bro 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
ikr he's already getting hints of facial hair wow
Looks like Kai hasn't received his copy of EOS-R5 or R6
Still waiting for his review on new R...
Good information, and your humor adds to your review.
Interesting and extremely educational. Kai is number one and will remain so for a long time to come . I want the 35mm version .
Finally, a video that fills the screen of my Note 20 Ultra in landscape!
Very nice. Cant wait to see what these are like
Were you out of focus while shooting with the Sirui? Or is the lens just very soft? I really can't tell, but the first lens you used seemed a LOT sharper.

Just a heads up, while the Sirui 50mm anamorphic is available for Fuji X-mount, the new 35mm is NOT (according to FujiRumors)
And the 35mm is mount-swappable (again: not Fuji) but the 50mm f/1.8 is fixed to whatever you purchase it in.
Also... 35mm gets you Sirui geared rings for the lens to work with follow focus systems.

Im pretty sure that “L” in anamorphic is silent
Good guess.
Will they ever release one of these for EF Mount?
i doubt it :(
Thanks for the review 👍🏾 Huge fan of your channel
Cool beans. Another nice video.
I'm wondering when there will be a 35mm and 50mm full frame version for my Panasonic Lumix S1 & S1R...!!!
Speaking of MFT, and seeing how you're also a Lumix user, are you going to have a look at the G90 at any point?
Looks nice, now i'm drooling over C70 with this
I never knew what was the point of anamorphic lenses. Now I want one. Thx Kai
Hey, nuffin wrong with a bit of ASMR.
In other news: woah, just got my shipping notification!
Laowas are good. I got 15mm f4 and it is really good. Except the tilt shift is not that useful and the macro requires a bit of hard work to pull off. Other than that it is a quality wide angle lens.
will wait when they build a full-frame one
SURAY and no Fuji X. It is micro 4/3 natively with adapter for E mount, eos m and Nikon z I guess
I will buying one as soon as the Fuji X mount comes out.

Wait... How did you get the 35 on the a7iii? I thought it wasn't full frame?
There are several adapters you can purchase to allow use on other mounts. If you google "Micro 3/4 to E-Mount adapter" you should find some pretty easily. Great for using vintage lenses as well!
You can still mount APSC Lens into full frame bodies (on certain mounts) you’ll just have to crop in camera or in post
@@ryanfeller5765 don't think you can record 4K if you crop like that?
kenmagg the a7III cropped area is ~16mp and 4K only takes 8mp (12mp if you’re shooting the 2:3 of the sensor)

I swear your a7iii footage with the Sirui 35 looks like a cinema camera. Might have to snag me one for short films..
i don't understand a thing but i'm still watching this every new video came out.

Great video my dude. Long time viewer, your vids put me in a good place. Much love
Tried crop-to-fit those anamorphic shots from a7iii on my phone screen ( apx.20:9), the viewing experience is phenomenal 👌
Waiting for that mountable ND lens that you recommended from Indiegogo, once I get that I may look into this too! Been very curious about it.
which one? link?
when you get a high-class wide-angle adapter with 67mm filter size - then the lens should be viable for full-frame... correct me if I am wrong.
you're wrong :P
how would this fare in photography you should make a vid on that!
shame your eyes were out of focus. Manual lens and missing that sony eye af :( Cool lens though!
It's the cheapest to get that anamorphic look plus I think it's better to be manual controlled focus as the glare and flare might interrupt AF consistency :D
What filmmaker in their right mind would want AF on an anamorphic lens? Or any lens for that matter?
Edgar Bleikur good shout
@@AndrewLynch9 lolz certainly your 2nd DP wouldn't need it!
A Siruisly good video
Does the 35mm become 50mm when shot in cropped super35 mode on a Sony a7
but on a m4/3 this 35mm is actually a 70mm right?
70mm vertical FOV, 50mm horizontal FOV

I don't think 35mm have an x-mount, I have the 50mm for Fuji but I was left disappointed.
I just dont get why SIRUI didnt just make the focus ring geared.
To cut costs possibly
@@HAlariousInc perhaps, but adding it wont make the price jump.
