I really appreciate how much information you gave out without spoiling or ruining the experience for someone who might be interested in reading this book after your review.
Yes!!! This is in my TBR pile! A local used bookshop has an entire Louis L’Amour section. $1.50 per book! I’ve visited Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and southern Utah. I’ve been to some of the places that L’Amour talks about in his stories. He makes the magic of the desert come alive! His books are like potato chips, you can’t have just one. And now also thanks to you Mr. Durfee… I’m reading Tony Hillerman! Never heard of him until you mentioned him. Leaphorn and Chee novels are awesome. Both L’Amour and Hillerman paint with words. I’m reliving fond memories I had from visiting (multiple trips) the American Southwest. Keep the L’Amour reviews coming! And also keep going with your Leaphorn and Chee reviews! You sir have opened my eyes to so many wonderful authors. Thanks to you sir, my love of the American Southwest has been reignited!
I read Californios last month and really enjoyed it. My first western novel read thx to ur recommendation. Also pick up some Larry McMurtry including Lonesome Dove which I look forward to reading soon. Really appreciate what u do, I would never know of a lot of these authors if not for ur channel. Ur the GOAT of booktube 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Brian, I was just watching a past video where you mentioned L’Amour wrote under the name Jim Mayo. Have you read his short story collection, West From Singapore? The recurring character’s name is Ponga Jim Mayo
Used to read any Louis L'Amour book I'd see since I was a kid until two weeks ago when I picked up a Max Brand cowboy novel. Thought his writing was much better. Gonna be on the lookout for more of his books.
I thought you were going to mention the movie (with Yul Brynner as Catlow). I remember watching it in the theater when I was a kid. Did you see it? Could you compare it to the book? Thanks for a greater review. And you are right: great illustration. Just in case you want to watch a great new western, I would recommend "Old Henry."

I didn't know about the movie. I usually wikipedia each book to see if there was a movie. I forgot this time.
Brian, Mr. Yul Brynner is one of the coolest cowboys ever. He made a perfect Catlow.
Have you read his memoir Education of a Wandering man? I really appreciated his sense of adventure and all around love for reading and self education.
His covers remind me of Charles Russell paintings.
This would be a good movie if made into one
Who are you and what have you written? And why don’t you ever mention this in any of your videos?!
I know I should open with a strong obnoxious introduction to myself and my books
