Susie, may you introduce the traditional culture of Christmas in the UK? Your videos are excellent and scripts are helpful. Your voice is soft and beautiful! I appreciate your work very much!
Awesome! 6:10 The quill is equivalent to the Chinese calligraphy brush on the west. I am very fond of it. Wish western schools could still practice them in class...well, in some classes...
I appreciate how practical and academic your contents actually are, and yet still remain quite intriguing to the audiences. This is literally an amazing way to learn a language. The school system is very similar to the one used in England as well. For example, students join the school at the age of 11 or 12, that's roughly Year 7 irl (first year in secondary school). The OWLs are basically GCSEs and the NEWTs are essentially A-levels.
I just come across your channel! It's amazing to see you speaking very fluent mandarin and introducing the British culture! Very educational and entertaining!
I was stunned by the blunt and frequent sarcasm which Hogwarts professors and students talked to each other. This is unimaginable in Taiwan. I wonder whether this is what actually happens in contemporary British schools.
Hi! Thanks for your video and this is great! There is schools in Hong Kong also have concept of houses in school, like mine , my secondary school, and some universities also have houses too. We have different colours sport uniforms , and race for the whole year😅
i found in Asia, there are private schools operated by Catholic Church or religious charities which provide resident facility for registered students are similar with the “Boarding Schools” in Canada, UK, and America. There are big dinning and gathering rooms for all students in boarding School. But the male and female students always have separate areas for bed rooms, wash rooms or bath rooms. The are always some secret rooms or forbidden areas in boarding school as well.
Harry Potter really changes the world of children's lifes. I remembered I read 3-4 books at that moment and found a lot of difficult words that did not understand. But as the stories were very attractive, I spent much time to read through the stories and then also watched the movies...
noticed a little spark in the video with a hint. When you are introducing the writing instrument in the movie, it seems to be a bit more background in it by mentioning the history of the debut time of metal nib pens in the UK. is there by any chance to have a video to talk about the history of writing instruments in the UK. Thanks
Although Latin is an archaic language now, its remnants still pervade in certain academia. Many of the words used in anatomy and taxonomy are Latin based. So for an individual in English speaking countries who aspires to become medical doctors, it would be helpful to study Latin in high school. Another area where Latin (and Greek) influences the English language is prefixes, suffixes, and word's roots.
I am a fan of Harry Potter after reading books and watching movies, as well as Fantastic Beasts. Not only able to learn British (or Scottish) culture, phrases and words, but also the meaning of spells. 🪄 Thank you for teaching, Miss Susie, this video is absolutely educational for all Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts fans. 💫
Since I were a kid. I used to be Harry Potter's big fan but not just only one. Another two main character Ron and Hermaine were also my big fans too. Once you had explained this film, I hardly imagined that story reflects in real society where they enroll in school, get educated and also used Latins like you had mentioned. Not just only explained of how Harry Potter's film included the elements of British. It sound quite like an ex Roman empire language where Germanic language were commonly used in Europe. That's really motivate me more about human ourselves in this planet of what different discovery we should know.

I think the medicine portion is not from Chinese medicine, But gypsy culture, which a lot of magic and potion involve Various types of herbs including Mandrake. Also the dragon JK used are European dragons, meaning, they spit fire. Asia dragons, Chinese, Japanese are related to water, rain and storm. Just my 2 cents.
Weasley family are Celts, Luna is a Scandinavian British, Malfoy is Anglo-Saxon, and Harry Potter is Latin people. And in story, Weasley is pretty poor and in low class. Malfoy and Luna are in high class, and Harry is the respected person. This design contains a little bit stereo type and even certain level of racism.
herbal medicine is not necessarily Chinese related as we know many people use natural things to cure diseases around the world before European( they had same tradition to use herbal medicine) started chemical synthetical method to produce medicine in 19th century.

I have a question about Ron and his family as ginger/red hair, as they tend to be bullied. Is ginger, traditionally a thing in UK culture? for example, are gingers tend to have a bigger family size and is not so well-off etc.
As far as I'm aware, having ginger hair isn't related to family size or class. Stereotypically people with ginger hair have Irish or Scottish heritage or relatives. In terms of why people with ginger hair used to get bullied (and sometimes still do), that's most likely just because it's an unusual hair colour, so kids find something to pick on.
@@susiewoo Thanks for your reply. I am currently living in the UK and still learning about British culture. I notice that most British are aware of racism, so they tend not to make fun with anyone who has a different race than themselves except making fun with ginger. I found this very interesting. Also, the politeness of the British usually made them say something they didn't mean. The comment they made could be because of habit or courtesy. For example, I went out for a curry dinner with a Brazilian and a British classmate in the Uni restaurant. Food arrived, and we had not started to taste the food yet, and the waiter came and asked if our food tasted ok. Without tasting the food, the British replied, " Oh, the food is delicious, thank you." The Brazilian classmate and I found that interesting why she made that comment without tasting it. And she suddenly said: "As I am being a British." Do you agree that Is a typically British response? (such as would say nice things to any food in a restaurant without even tasting it)

~~~~~~~
諸葛亮(181年-234年),字孔明,東漢末年徐州琅琊陽都(今山東省臨沂市沂南縣)人。三國蜀漢(季漢)丞相[1]:2902、政治家、軍事家,亦是戰略家、發明家
這集很棒,不知道角色跟法術取名跟拉丁文有關。我只知道很多學術名稱都取自希臘語等等有關,不曉得哈利波特取名也有講究。中文世界沒有這方面文化背景,翻譯就是音譯,讀起來會感覺彆扭。感覺金庸小說翻成英文,也有同樣困擾,裡頭招式降龍十八掌跟獨孤九劍怎麼翻譯成英文?英文還有goblins,東方沒有的奇幻生物。
Defeat the dragon's eighteen palms & Dugu's Nine Swords.
射鵰有官方英文本,裡面招式的翻譯真的是考驗譯者的創意
@@lhsd0131很有創意🤣🤣
我想到了:辟邪劍法可以翻成submitting evil swords
倚天劍、屠龍刀:
depend sky sword &kill dragon knife 😂
其實就咒語有用拉丁語這點,我是覺得翻譯咒語時應該用多點文言文的元素,而不是都翻譯的超級短的,很可惜
Expelliarmus變成去去武器走,Expecto Petronum變成疾疾護法現身,聽起來一整個怪,可是好像也沒別的辦法。
