i love steve walsh playing keys, his vocals and his general demeanor as a person trying to figure it all out. few if any will touch kansas or steve walsh during the glory years of kansas!
Best song from the best album the original six have done. Period. Maturity and confidence in what they are as a band, peak mastery of their musical skills, Kerry Livgren unencumbered by studio expectations/need to sell records, they made an album for themselves, and they knew we, the true fans, would get it. Masterpiece.
I have to agree, this reeks of a mature band that found their way back...one could make an argument that this is as good as anything they put out in their glory days despite the weaker vocals.
.. i first saw them just before 'MASQUE",came out in Wichita(KS.),then their Masterpiece.."LEFTOVERTURE".."Monolith",THEN '97 IN ATL. GA...I am always enraptured when ever i stop, and take the time to listen to the melodies which seem to blow like the "Dust in the ...Lonely Wind.'. from my favorite band!...Long Live KANSAS!!
Ragsdale, Billy Greer, Steve Morse... all great musicians. When KANSAS is hitting on all cylinders, as they were when Somewhere to Elsewhere was released, they are a force of nature, no matter what the lineup.
Ragsdale and Morse are not on this album, it is the original six, plus Billy Greer. All the songs written by Kerry Livgren. That's why it is so good, the best, in my humble opinion ( Kansas fan since 1975). Maturity, confidence, Livgren's composition skills at his peak, musical skills of all at their best. Greatness.
35 yr Kansas fan and this is my all time fav. even like it more than 'The Wall' What a masterpiece-2 tunes and 9 different melodies all smoothly linked. ABACBA/DdEDdA/F(bridge)//GHGHA/E and I (ending). Blows me away.
Best progressive rick band ever. . best voice, best drums, best guitars, violin unique, best keyboards, best lyrics, best everything. . .Kansas forever. . . (except Vinyl Confession)
Way to go Kerry and Kansas... Spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, The ALMIGHTY! #jesus The journeys of The Apostle Paul from the perspective of Kansas Prog!
Very few if any of the classic bands have released new material that could have come straight off if their classic stuff....but these guys did in spectacular fashion.
+Mark Serour don't forget that there are Britney fans out there that are convinced that pop tart pablum is music so they'd never recognize something like THIS as anything than instrument tuning.
thats what i usually tell myself too. i try and focus on the brilliance...even tho i dont agree with his religious or politics in the slightest! he is a genius regardless.
Robby was the original violinst untill the audio visions album came out after that album it went all down once daviad joined the band! Davaid started violin lessons, @ age 3 and i believe robby started violin leseons @ age 8
This song could be set to a video with footage from Voyage of the Dawn Treader. At 7:15, I think of Aslan changing from a lamb to a lion. Gets me a bit choked up every time i hear it.
Why don't the original six just stay together?? They are SO much better than any of the replacement musicians! This captures some of the vintage sound of yesteryear.
My favorite albums from Kansas for the longest time were the first two "Kansas" and "Song For America", then put out two more amazing albums. Point of No Return, although great, kinda lost the progressive edge and focused on shorter rock tracks. Then everything after was mediocre, until this.... This album is a masterpiece by Kerry Livgren and co. Wish they could all get together and put out one more amazing studio record. Love Kansas!
God gave him that talent, and Bach,Beethoven,Mozart etc. Read Romans 8 and 12 then decide if he is nuts...We often speak of that which we know not of...
Thru out the progressive melodies and lyrics Kerry was searching, going thru every major religions and others. His book SEEDS OF CHANGE (also a CD) explains the how the lyrics came to him. In July 1980 he found his answer. Kerry tookk us on a musical spiritual journey from Mariabronn to THE OTHER SIDE beyond THE WALL with A GLIMPSE OF HOME to THE CURTAIN OF IRON with NO ONE TOGETHER. A continuity to his perception of things with so many layers of sound. My favorite band KANSAS.
@@chrisrickert8638 Jean Luc Ponty comes to mind for one!! Saw him in 83 and met him,got his autograph too!! Such a gentleman!! Robbie worked best with Kansas i think!
Kansas, then or now...Distant Vision ranks up there as one their most beautiful compositions!!
Robbie sings to us from the great beyond in this one, absolutely touches the soul
This is one of Kansas' best songs.
Truly a masterpiece.
The middle section with Robby on vocals is just sublime. R.I.P.
Greatest band ever!!! Even though they'll never get the recognition they deserve...
i love steve walsh playing keys, his vocals and his general demeanor as a person trying to figure it all out. few if any will touch kansas or steve walsh during the glory years of kansas!
Ruth Craig Steve does not play keys on somewhere to elsewhere; all keyboard tracks are played by Kerry
This may be the greatest song by Kansas period

The Walsh's voice is perfect
One of my favorite Kansas songs.

Please dear God resurrect me in the afterlife as a member for this legendary band.
That piano intro... Perfect
It is classic Kerry that's for sure; although it does reminisce of the intro to crossfire
This is my FAVORITE piece by Kansas!!! I would LOVE to arrange this for a full orchestra and chorus backing the band!!!
Kansas is the best!
Love you Robbie. Forever.

5,25 🥲🥲
Lol, not an Elefante fan? I understand where you're coming from, but you gotta admit that Windows from that album is really good
for me it is except drastic measures ;-)
@@lordofglencoe7084 Robby wss gone Kerry gave up songwriting to elephante
Not the same
That was a phase they had to go through. Still good music. And it kept them alive. 😊
Best song on a great album maybe? What a great songwriter!
Kansas, without the genius of Livgren, is like a beer without malt...this masterpiece is another peak in their career
Absolutely! I totally agree with you. Kerry plays such beautiful piano. ❤️
Way to go Kerry and Kansas... Spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, The ALMIGHTY! #jesus
The journeys of The Apostle Paul from the perspective of Kansas Prog!
It's wonderful to hear a GREAT PROG band do that!!!!
The song was about Christopher Columbus
@@brianevans6328 Columbus was evil..
Jesus endorsed slavery, so did Paul..
Fantastic! Definitely the best song of Somewhere to Elsewhere.
Very few if any of the classic bands have released new material that could have come straight off if their classic stuff....but these guys did in spectacular fashion.
Great song! It's rare that I like a song so much when it's only the first time I listen to it!
Great song from song from a truly great album!
Always a track of this band in my head ...
Hallelujah - what a song by the Wheat-heads! Love it.
Wheat-heads! I'm 55 and never heard that label. Love it. Livgren et.al. are Known Wheat cultivators; good reputation all in all !
Only kerry could write songs like this
Thomas Becker absolutely!!!!
I cannot believe that there are ANY thumbs down for this beautiful composition, let alone 6!
+Mark Serour don't forget that there are Britney fans out there that are convinced that pop tart pablum is music so they'd never recognize something like THIS as anything than instrument tuning.
Masterpiece
Beautiful cd
RIP Robby Steinhardt 🎻
This is probably the pretty song on the album for sure
Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another masterpiece by Kerry Livgren...
The best prog rock band
Howseabout uploadin' Byzantium? Even though Walsh has lost tone and range, he can still sing. His voice is absolutely haunting on Byzantium.
Prog Rock rules...a lot a like tends to fall into that genre
KANSAS---''DISTANT VISION''
others levels of musical sense.

0:33-0:44 IS that Kansas sound.
This song is the shit ,Walsh is awesome here, what a legend vocalist
Your opinion of the song reeks of poo.
Steinhardt sings on this song also, his part is sublimely carried out also.
genius

@phogroian
But dont forget the mean reason why it was like that; Because kerry livgren wrote the songs!
This song could be set to a video with footage from Voyage of the Dawn Treader. At 7:15, I think of Aslan changing from a lamb to a lion. Gets me a bit choked up every time i hear it.
Cut and dry Kansas!
Why don't the original six just stay together?? They are SO much better than any of the replacement musicians! This captures some of the vintage sound of yesteryear.
maybe cuz' of the Jesus stuff
Wrong!!! Robby steinhardt played on somewhere to elsewhere, not David
i think only kerry can write such great (prog) rock songs.
Neal Morse too!! Spock's Beard,Transatlantic(his bands!) too!!Both are geniuses at what they do!!
@@royboy56100not really. Morse always wrote the same song again and again.
С това парче стария Канзас се завърна във формата си от преди години
I think they just need Kerry Livgren
Kansas should be up there with Led Zeppelin and the rest of them.
@bilos1993
They are fucking better. In actual talent and musical prowess, Zep cant touch these guys.

i can compare collecting albums to obtaining literary classics on a higher level.
WOW, sounds like a an orchestra.
Best song from that album is Byzantium.
This is a great piece of music. But if this is really about Columbus, it’s like a second grade Sunday school version.
The vocals aren't even that bad...
This is indeed a great song. Livgren is such a good songwriter than I can easily forgive his religious nuttery.

PROVERBS 3 is best in OT. Anyways.Just my opinion.
Ragsdale is the best violinist in the God damn world.
Send Me An Angel absolutely not true! I can think of at least 10 violinists that blow Ragsdale away without even giving it any thought…
