Ah the dilemma of appreciating high end quality and yet lacking the funds to own any of these. Still, they are wonderful to look at. Thank you for your presentation.
Now only if they could slim down the thickness. The manual wind is a good start but I’d want the same slimness in an automatic. I have a few of the 70s 36mm models and they had them slim back then. Don’t know why they cant do the same now.
What a wonderful video that is a source of joy to encounter. Only when I got a vintage King Seiko did I start to fully appreciate the cases as a key quality of the brand. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for this overview! I love GS since a few years and currently own three of them. My last purchase was the 34mm SBGX347 hat you've already presented a few months (years?) back. This was the trigger for me to buy it as I always wanted to have a smaller GS in my collection. And with that elegant and timeless appearance I really wanted to go small. I do not regret my decision! It's absolutely beautiful. Wearing it on my quite small 16-16,5 cm (around 6.5 inches) wrist.
Would love to see more GS showcase vids like this. Loving the look of that baby 37mm snowflake, just wow...now if only they released one similar in 38mm with the shunbun/cherry blossom dial
I had that watch, but sold it to get the SBGW299. The SBGX349 is a nice watch, but I wanted a dark blue, not the kinda royal blue with a hint of purple. The SBGW299 is exactly the shade of dark blue I was looking for, and the dial's radial pattern is also more interesting. The SBGX349 did look great on a steel bracelet, though.
Wonderful summary! I’m living in munich germany, looking for a watch to celebrate my 40th birthday this summer. I love GS but I’m also blessed with a slender wrist (16,5cm) and see that I need to get-a-testin’! Disclaimer: Even though I’ll likely land on the snowflake or a used 37 SBGH311 (to save some money, not unlimited budget sadly).
My favorite GS is the SBGX347, the cap on the seconds hand is such a great detail that almost no one else does, even though it looks much better. It seems they use it mostly on quartz though unfortunately. The sakura-wakaba is also great but I prefer no date.
I can't even describe how satisfying those 62Gs I find. Hands down the best case in all of the watch making, regardless of what you put it on, a strap or a bracelet
You didn't mention SBGH311, 'Sea of Clouds', 37mm. I believe all the new ones are sold now (limited to 1200 pcs), but they are available used. It has a beautiful dial and High Beat 9S85 movement.
Another one you missed (which is a sold out LE, so probably why you didn't have it to show given that these seem to all be new, tagged watches) is SBGW289, which is available at a reasonable price on the preowned market. It's the same size/case as SBGW299 shown at 7:00, but it has a light pink textured dial which is *chef's kiss*.
Would love to see a range of daily-wear spring drives (date window, bracelet, traditionally colored dials) in 37mm like the SBGX355G you profile. Are spring drives thicker than usual, so that when combined with a rotor they make smaller cases too chunky? As far as I know the smallest spring drives are 38mm and manual.
I have a sbgm221 that I got when i finished grad school. It was my choice as I felt it was the most bang for the buck watch at the time. As time has passed i find it to be too thick and not wearable as a dressy number. Tim Mosso said it could easily slide under a cuff, maybe his cuff but not mine. Lesson learnt. These though are much more to my taste.
Thanks for sharing. This is such a great showcase of smaller pieces from GS. Love the snowflake especially. Something about the hands and indicies, being so very sharp, attracts me. Edit: wish the snowflake came in manual wind
Nice video with a display of watches with a civilised size. I own an SGBW231, which is sort of the OG "smaller" GS, and it's a wonderful size. That said, I can't believe we're omitting the SBGX261 and 263 here. They are the basic model, but super wearable. Picked up a 265 before they become rare, and am over the moon with it.
Nice, I own the fraternal twin of your watch - the SBGW235. I also bought a SBGX065 like your 265, but I decided to swap it for a similar Citizen AQ4100-57L (partly because i wanted the lightweight titanium). Those SBGX models are really nicely sized, though.
I covet Grand Seiko and yearn to own one. That said, it always weirds me out a little to see a stunning GS with quartz movement. Granted, the second hand hits the second marks dead on (or certainly should) the way quartz was always meant to be. But Seiko makes sweep second quartz movements, which i always prefer over the one second tick kind. I wonder if GS is going to start putting those types of movements in.
Not sure if I missed it (and sorry if so) but can I give a shout out to the Omiwatari (especially the white dial one) - it’s a great combination of gorgeous simplicity in the dial/hands and Spring Drive which besides a technical marvel is just beautiful in the effect of the smooth seconds hand glide. IMO that’s a watch that punches well above its weight (and has a 37.3mm case)!
Appreciate such impressive collection on display! Is it possible to inquire with GS about the potential re-introduction of the SBGR287J? In my opinion, this 37mm watch perfectly embodies all the distinctive elements that define the brand.
Those SBGH343G and SBGH341G are stunting. A unique case shape, but the thickness. I wish GS would bring back their thin Manuel-wind watches. 36-38 is such an underappreciated market.
When the case is smaller, I hope that the company pair it with shorter leather strap to produce a more balanced look. Should include the Omiwatari even if it is 38.5mm. Both the SBGY007 and SBGY013 are stunning.
Thank you so much for taking this initiative... Watches are not a necessity of course, people buy them coz they enjoy them and are passionate about them... If it doesn't look right and looks large and bulky and clumsy, there's no point in wearing that watch even if it is very well built and beautiful etc... Most Swiss watchmakers are introducing smaller variants of their most popular models, I feel GS is still not reacting as well and as fast, but it's a good starting point... the latest 62GS 38mm models are exactly what we want, just a smaller variant of the best.... some of the other 37mm models that you have here are not rocking the best specs or dials or designs... I feel all standard 40mm models should be now resized to 39mm or have an option to buy exact same watch in 38mm
I loved the video. I also prefer smaller watches. I own the SBGX265, which is quartz with a blue dial. I love the look and it keeps time to within 1 second compared to atomic time when I need to reset the watch for Daylight Savings time change. So it's probably accurate to about +/- 2 seconds per year. Amazing. I probably would have gotten the snowflake dial version if it had been out at the time.
hey, what is that green strap on the sbgw285g? When I was looking to purchase the model it was never featured in that leather. Is it aftermarket, and if so, from where? Thanks
I have that watch, and it is beautiful. Very lightweight, too! Which is a good thing... I'm not sure why some people prefer to wear a heavy watch (and they think a lightweight titanium watch feels cheap...) The 34mm size looks great on my 6.9" wrist.
Great to see a well great selection of GS, I prefer them more in the 40mm range, but whichever diameter they have, quality is great and those watches just so much fun. Happy new week and cheers.
Screw down crowns are not needed for manual wound dress watches. They're not gonna be exposed to so much water and pressure and having a screw down crown on manual wound movements is just gonna mess up the threading.
@@johnnychintotally agree. the obsession with screw down crowns is not necessary. water resistance is set, screw down or push/pull. so it doesn't matter. thread wear is real!
@@juanfarrell1088 The presage sharp edged line is nice for $700. I have a sbgx261 w a 9f movement. It's dead on every time I go to change the time for dst and matches those ideal dimensions pretty closely. Incredible watch for $2k.
GS dials are second to none, but their bracelets are their downfall for me. Lack of taper makes them look clunky and crude, and has so far dissuaded me from buying one
Nice to finally see a display of watches with a case size smaller than 40 mm. Thank you so much sharing!
Breath of fresh Air !!!
FINALLY!!!!
I am always confused that Grand Seiko are dedicated making dress watches, yet their newly launch watches are seldomly under 40mm
Small watches are pure class and history.
Absolutely. In my opinion makes an individual look so sophisticated.
Proportion is impossible to overemphasize. Thank you for your activism. More 34mm, please!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!!!
Ah the dilemma of appreciating high end quality and yet lacking the funds to own any of these. Still, they are wonderful to look at. Thank you for your presentation.
The SBGX347G is stunning. I'm still wishing for a sub 37mm spring drive. Maybe a trimmed manual 9R with a reduced power reserve (2 days is plenty).
There a some beautiful Credors that would fit your requirements.
Amazing video of showing all GS under 38mm for people like me with small wrist.
please keep it up :)
Now this is the content I'm glad UA-cam recommends lol.

Smaller watches are so much more comfortable to wear everyday. Thank you so much for sharing!
What a wonderful video that is a source of joy to encounter. Only when I got a vintage King Seiko did I start to fully appreciate the cases as a key quality of the brand. Thanks for the video.
Wow, love the limited black SBGW on your wrist at the end. Very impressive model. Congratulations for landing one!

Great showcase! Would definitely make a trip down to The Armoury in HK someday, looks cozy.
Missing the SGBX349 which you had shown in an earlier video, can't get that blue out of my head...

Dear Mark, I really like it when you do GS reviews.
Thank you!!!
showing us all these nice watches and low key flex his best one on the wrist. bravo !
did snow flake in quartz is crazy, i think you missed the 36mm pink dial too
All the really cool dials are big…..
Great video.

Thanks for this video. I am interested Spring Drive. What is the smallest size and models available?
Owned a SBGX097 for a few years now. The double logo series is so overlooked at my region but I actually like them over the more updated SBGX models.

That's exactly why I bought the SBGW235, with a similar dial colour - I knew the SBGM221 would just be too big and thick.
Thanks for sharing. This is such a great showcase of smaller pieces from GS. Love the snowflake especially. Something about the hands and indicies, being so very sharp, attracts me.

TOP - many thanks for this video!
Nice flex at the end with the GS First! Love that watch and you reminded me of my next purchase 💯

Great video. I've got in my head that it could be a good idea to get 3 GS... One manual wind, one auto, one spring drive..
Gorgeous watches. I’m one of those rare people that have a large wrist of 21.6cm. Have any suggestions on watch size from GS?
No SBGW289 ??
What's the brand of glasses and the model you are wearing? They look slick on you :)
Waiting for a sub-38mm spring drive...

It saddens me that there's no 38mm spring drive :( I think I'm gonna have to go Hi beat, but I want that smoooooth second hand.
This video was awesome! Very clear presentation and explanations! You got yourself a new subscriber
Do you prefer the blue SBGW299G over the blue SBGP005?
Watching a week after getting the 34mm skyflake 🤩
When the case is smaller, I hope that the company pair it with shorter leather strap to produce a more balanced look.
Should include the Omiwatari even if it is 38.5mm. Both the SBGY007 and SBGY013 are stunning.
I don't know why but for some reason, you look like a Grand Seiko in a sharp suit and cool glasses.
SBGW 305 is GS itself!!

love GS but 38 is too small for my 7.5 wrist. I think all 3 hand watches should come in 39 and 41. GMT, WT and chronos are fine for 42 and larger.
You forgot the SBGX353, the baby skyflake!
I have that watch, and it is beautiful. Very lightweight, too! Which is a good thing... I'm not sure why some people prefer to wear a heavy watch (and they think a lightweight titanium watch feels cheap...)

They remind me a lot of my 72 Omega Seamaster
I wear Ploprof, and Deepsea but for me I think the perfect size watch is 38.5mm 👌🏻
nkuwan is best watch factory!!!
You forgot about the Original LardMarvel (36,000 high beat !)now that’s a classic grail (GS)
It would be great if Jason could meet up with you as both of you are GS lovers, and most importantly, u2 can speak the English accent.
I love SBGW289 Sakura kakushi
How many are screw down crowns? Another weakness of Grand Seiko, lack of sxrew down crowns.

my sbgw289 is my absolute darling
Do 40+mm please !
What's your favourite one... this one that looks like a rolex 😂
Sbgw305 is nearly perfect, just miss a blue second hand.
I really don't understand why a quartz watch has to be over 7mm thick. I loved the baby snowflake, but it's just too thick still.
It’s about time GS made smaller refs.
Tell Grand Seiko to make a 40MM dive watch.
Never been a fan of the dinner plate on the wrist
The guy speaks better English than English people
39mm is the smallest case size that I’ll even consider. I don’t get the fixation on large case watches >45mm nor tiny little toy watches
Very nice, you have very nice skin 😅
If they had a spring drive under 38mm and thinner than 10mm id be all over it.
Maybe... in 20 years 🤷♂️

so many watches, yet they all look the same tbh
That’s GS for you - boring watches for boring people who think they’re too good for Rolex
Male endlinks should be forbiden
No, not for me. The Europeans do dress watches much better.
These are all very same-y. One the least interesting videos you've made, in my opinion.
10.something for a quartz watch is insanely THICK. Come on, don't pretend it's okay, GS needs to slim their watches down. All of it.
