- This film guides you through the whole production process of a rotogravure cylinder and an embossing roller. Besides the preperation of the steelbase according to the following engraving process, the film illustrates three different ways of engraving: electro-mechanical engraving, direct laser engraving and etching. For the production of the embossing roller a embossing unit is used.

i am Professional Graphic designer...and i know much about pre press but i did not know what is Gravure printing unless a client came to me for designing to do a gravure printing....obviously there are much techinal differences even in desiging for Offset printing and Gravure printing...and all i want to say that this was the best video i have ever seen .... excellent and informative....Thumbs up (Y)

What are machinery used in cylinder preparation
Don't know how I got here, but once again the algorithm blows my mind, because I am TOTALLY interested in learning obscure technical/industrial processes.
The algorithm just seems to KNOW exactly which totally random videos that I will like, and sometimes it's right on, and it feeds them to me one after another.. and other times, it seems like it thinks I'm someone else, because it will show me one garbage video after another and I can skip 50 videos in a row without being slightly interested in a single one of them. Go figure.
FYI this is not obscure, this is a world-wide renowned printing technique, used on hella packages. Perhaps more popular in Europe though, if you weren't aware of it.

A for thoroughness. D for audio background. C- for demarcation between different engraving processes. I learned a lot about the basics, but it was painful.
why do we need a additional zinc layer in case of laser engraving ?
It will protect the underneath cylinder, and its easier to laser engrave in zinc layer as its softer than cu.

How is the excess ink removed from the cylinder face please ? I understand a "blade" can be used, but I can't see how this leaves a totally clean surface at thousands or revolutions per minute ? Thanks, Steve
chamber with 2 blades (negative and positive) is used for higher rpm, the colour circulates inside the chamber under pressure. Also a tiny layer of colour stays on the cylinder and cools down the blade (it dries befoe it reaches the printed material). Hard to understand, but it works.

I am on the run from the small-litho printing trade using conventional Moleton damping. It was an uncontrolable "bitty" nightmare for 14 years !
I just love the "new" modern fast flawless printing techniques, it is just jaw-dropping, as you know....

It's called a 'resist', it's a substance that stops the acid from reacting with the copper. Many substances can be used as resists, as long as it will not interact with the acid.

The only 'pre press solution' I could see was ferric chloride! Why don't you call a spade a spade instead of a 'digging solution?
Now all I see is occasional Vision Elements, Inc(seriously?) flashing before my eyes and the sound of someone chewing in my ear. Interesting and all but why make it irritating?
