This looks like a real attempt. but I can't help be reminded of a quote from the movie The Interpreter: "An almost assassinated leader has so much more support and sympathy". That a gunman could have taken that position and had such a clear line of fire would suggest a massive failure by the Secret Service, or something more sinister.
