  • We hooked up the Moog Minitaur to Arturia's Beatstep, and this happened...check it out!. The Arturia BeatStep is connected straight to the Moog Minitaur via MIDI (omitting the need of a computer for sequencing) & the sound is a raw recording straight from the MiniTaur without any processing at all.

    seeing this video 6 years ago was a breakthrough moment for me that got me into synths + modular and beyond -- I still come back to it and appreciate you guys. The absolute lack of keyboard in the vid with juicy chorusy stabs and percussive pulse was a total eye opener

    I have Arturia KeyStep arriving tomorrow. Thanks for that excellent tip on the CV reduction. It was very fortunate I didn't get the patch cables short on money because I was going to do just that. I'm also going to see what happens when routing through Electribe EMX-1 (Blue Tank) then through the Moog MiniTaur all Midi 5-pin sockets only. The valve tubes in the EMX fried my speaker's horn tweeters three times now. Enjoy! Thanks for the lesson.

    Just a reminder to anyone using the BeatStep PRO with moog gear, you have to attenuate the voltage from 10v down to 5v, if you are connecting via CV. If not, you will fry your moog.

    I'm yet to get my head around "MIDI". My Arturia SparkLE is OK for making beats and so on in spark mode, but MIDI mode (selected by pressing a three-button combination) makes the unit unresponsive. I'm definitely on the learning curve here. I gather that to do what is achieved in this video, I'd need to be in MIDI mode? Thx.

    Really love that bassline at 3 mins. Does this have the same sound as a sub phatty or 37?

    • @isopodMusic
      @isopodMusic 6 років тому

      I understand the original Taurus had its oscillators modeled after the original 901 module, a thought which makes me really happy. Minitaur is its own thing. It sounds more vintage to my ears than the Phatties, which I also own and love. Also, the Minitaur is very stable in pitch at live performances. A Phatty still needs adjustments during warm-up. Super happy to hear you can send a second sequence pitch to the 2nd oscillator. The firmware update for the Minitaur that just came out is phenomenal, by the way.

    So is anyone using the beatstep pro to control an MPC 1000 via the drums section? How are they finding it? Id like to control 2 of my old analog synths and my MPC form the beatstep pros sequencer.

    • @MarkLoweLowebrau
      @MarkLoweLowebrau 7 років тому

      That's kind of ass backwards. The MPC 1000 is a way more powerful sequencer than the Arturia. Especially if you get JJOS. It's the brains of my operation. I'm running drums off of it and playing 4 different synths with different channels simultaneously.

    • @noiselabproject9659
      @noiselabproject9659 8 років тому

      Forget the Beatstep now as it`s a very crippled Sequencer compared to the new Beatstep Pro which is far superior ( up to 64 steps poss too plus gate and Velocity built into the hardware for each note ) it can do 2 sequences at once as well plus drum sequencing too !

    • @-thirteen
      @-thirteen 8 років тому +1

      +Noiselab Project yep, I got a 1st Gen to control the hidden menu on my sub phatty. now I have an electribe es-1 coming in. I'll pick up the bs pro next to run the sequences

    • @noiselabproject9659
      @noiselabproject9659 8 років тому

      You are best getting beatstep PRO for an extra £80 -£100. Its a far better tool. A LOT more useful, as the sequencer on the beatstep is really just a novelty for serious users, a bit limited. Its a great midi controller though for the price, but its best to see it as a controller ONLY from the start, as the sequencer will wear thin quickly. Go for the PRO mate. At a £100 more, its got a lot more to offer. Check it out on Arturia's actual youtube subscription, and check the independent reviews. good luck
