- Fried Potatoes - With Fat Reducing Tip. Southern Fried Potatoes with Onions are a staple in every hillbilly kitchen. You can make perfect fried taters in any skillet even cast iron without sticking or burning. I also share a fat/calorie cutting tip so you can continue to enjoy fried foods even if you’re on one of them dad blamed diets. Fried taters are one of them foods that just make life better. At the end of a rough day, I have a plate of fried taters, thank God for getting me through it, the taters on my plate and the hope for the next day. Fried taters, pinto beans, corn and cornbread, are one of the best meals ever concocted.

I stopped using Facebook a few years ago due to privacy concerns, please keep using UA-cam too.
My Favorite part of your videos is the fact that you put God First !
You remind me of home , I've lost my family to age and Time , and it's a blessing to be able to watch you cooking and be brought right back to that kitchen and seeing the LADIES cook .
Heavenly Father please Bless All who watch these videos and read the comments if it be your will . We stand with you Father and give you All the Glory . We ask for this in Jesus Name Amen
Love this.... I too have had the utter joy and sadness of understanding your comment. Remides me of how blessed I've been. God bless you
Amen.
Bless you!

Amen. ❤️
I'll keep watching all your videos (even the old ones) on YT. I don't do Facebook.
We love fried taters here in Italy, made exactly the same way too, but with olive oil, garlic clove and rosemary. Your videos are so relaxing Becky I love to watch them.
I never considered adding rosemary, I’ll try that , thx!!
@@oldyeller6518 Very lightly. Don't overdo it. Garlic and rosemary are strong flavors and ya don't wanna overcome the comfort of "potatoness"
I prefer you tube for videos so I'm glad you're still posting on you tube. I was never taught to cook, so ALL of your videos are so good for me, even these basic ones. I need them, and you're a great teacher. Love your Christian messages as well. So keep on keeping on. You've got a faithful follower here.
Becky I read the comments we are your Christian brothers and sisters here on UA-cam! Don't leave us! Luv you and God bless.
❤❤❤
One of the most memorable meals mother cooked when I was a girl was fried taters with onions, a pot of pinto beans, fried kebalsa sausage, and cornbread was always available with this meal...the occasion of this meal was served as a Sunday supper meal...I respect this medley for various reasons, but I enjoy this now out of tradition and memories growing up 😊
I love fried potatoes and onions with sauerkraut and kielbasa.
There's just 2 of us, but I fill a 12" skillet.
Seldom are there any leftovers.
@@mountnman3609☝🏻💁🏻♀️ there's just something about pork, potatoes, sauerkraut, and onions 👍🏻😊
I always slice them because that's what my Grandma and Mom did. I really appreciate you mainly use staples for your foods and not a lot of extra herbs and spices I don't keep in my pantry. God bless you for taking time to do these.
My point is I like that she’s a real
Hey, Becky! That’s the way I learned to fry potatoes from my mama! I rarely do FB! I can’t stand the way they censor the truth 💕🙏🏻✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 UA-cam is just as bad, but I love my cooking, diy, and Christian Bible Study and friends on here💕
Enjoy your videos so much!
It's a blessing to find someone who adds Jesus in this day and time. Seems every where else they want to kick him out. God bless, & keep sharing!!!
Looking at the comments I'm getting the impression that you are thinking about leaving UA-cam?? Please don't, I really enjoy your videos here and I have saved quite a few. Please don't leave!!!
Becky: "I've used metal in this cast iron pan for as long as I've been Married, And I've been Married almost as long as I've been alive!" LOL!!! I think that's the closet you've ever come to raising your voice, you're a riot
I don’t have Facebook, so please don’t stop doing UA-cam.
Same here.
I don't do Facebook either.
I love you and sure going to miss you.
I still have Facebook but thinking of taking it down or setting it to mega private
Same here !
I am in the older age group and this is good advice for me. With Becky explaining everything as she goes
along I am learning something new every time. She really is great value, not just with cookery but she also
has a natural talent for effortless communication. 5 stars!
I don't use FB. It makes me nervous.
I usually use leftover boiled potatoes for fried potatoes. I will try your recipe. I like onions in them. Thank you Becky.
I would like to try that but between me & my Irish husband, we never have leftover potatoes!🤪
Yep....fried potatoes, brown beans, cornbread and meatloaf. Your cooking reminds me of my grandmothers, mother's, sister's and now my own. Love hearing some tips you provide.... proving that I did not always pay close attn to my mother's instruction. Lol! God bless you
Bring back memories! My Grandmother from southern Indiana made these I think everyday! With bacon grease.😊. God bless you. Happy Spring everyone.🌺
I thought everyone’s Grandma did!
Loved the metal spatula rant. I have exactly what you described. My husband calls it manual deglazing.
My oldest Cast iron is smooth as glass.
I can’t believe at my age, over 70 that I never really learned how to cook fried potatoes. I have my granddad’s cast-iron skillet and I love them. I’ve followed your instructions for thepotatoes a couple of times now. Thank you for helping with basic information. My husband just loves these. I throw in some of the green bell pepper from our garden. Which makes it even more special. God bless
No Facebook! I love your show on UA-cam 😋
Thank you very much, God bless you!
I prefer the long recipe for sure…for one very good reason…that pan *sizzle!!!*
Everything tastes better cooked in cast iron! Having two is a great idea especially if you're making cornbread in the oven.
Sorry I won't do FB. Glad you are redoing some of the older videos. Some with the music were really annoying. I prefer bacon grease or butter. This is good for you. Helps to cut down on the glycemic spike from the carbs.
You taught me the simplest tip recently. I can’t tell you how it has helped me- tip the frying pan and soak the grease up with paper towels. I spent years tipping the pan to drain and having the meat fall out! So simple but so helpful, thanks!
I’m 67 & I never knew that either!
I still use bacon grease to fry a lot of foods and to fix my cornbread. Nothing else gives the same taste. Thanks for the video! :-)
I started using grapeseed oil as my main oil after watching your videos. I can't lift cast iron, but my mother often did. Onion and potatoes are great together!
Watching your videos reminds me of food from my childhood. Brings me so much joy 💜 God bless!!
Hi ☺ I don't have f.b. don't want f.b. so I'll keep watching here. Maybe you could do a video on iron skillet care . ?
Here ya go~ua-cam.com/video/RPTOmqJrPRc/v-deo.html
I just read your comment in the description about fried taters, pinto beans, corn, and cornbread being one of the best meals ever concocted.😂 I wholeheartedly agree, I grew up on it!👍☺️
I could watch and listen to you all day.
I’m sixty something and have never been able to make good fried potatoes. My momma taught me how to cook many things when I was young but this is one that I never learned. Thank you.
The smell of skillet potatoes and onions is wonderful. I like a little crunch on the potato.
goodness great recipes every week...haven’t gone wrong yet. I lost my husband in late 2017, but I still cook for my kids who visit on weekends. Makes me happy. Thank you so much!
No better way to start a beautiful Saturday-- Becky and fried taters!! I love the Bible verse at the end and it always brings tears to my eyes because it is ALWAYS true, and a great reminder of the Wonders of God. Thank you ( again ) Becky!! ❤️ and goldarnit- I WILL put God first today!!!!
P.S. I’m no help on social media-- I got rid of it all during the election-, but I tell all my family, and everyone I meet about y’all, and they are VERY happy to hear about you and your precious life lessons!!!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏
I enjoyed watching your video on cooking fried taters with onions.
Several years ago the doctor told my dad he had to cut back on his salt intake. Momma was from the old school of you couldn't cook food without adding salt. I cooked them several meals where I added a little salt after the food was done cooking. Needless to say that Momma and Daddy were surprised that the food tasted better.
That’s how I fry my potatoes, except that when I add onions, my family thinks I’ve made something extra special! Lol!😅
Thanks, Becky, for wonderful teaching for all cooks, especially beginners. You’re really the best. ⚡️💖⚡️
Homemade fried taters with onions are the best. Thanks for this video Becky. Prayers to you and your family.
Oh my goodness! Fried potatoes are my number one comfort food! And the more like my grandma's the better! Mmmm good stuff for sure.
Thanks for the tips Becky and the childhood memories this episode has brought me....... Making fried potatoes with my grandma..... Breakfast with eggs and bacon, or dinner with fried squash, maybe some fried chicken too with fresh sliced tomatoes on the side!! Childhood summers such a long time ago....
God bless you Becky...
My grandparents were farmers in Michigan.
But my grandma made a number of the dishes you make.
I grew up on fried potatoes.
Sometimes with onion, sometimes with chunks of buttered bread, sometimes just the potatoes.
She would make them from raw at times, usually from leftover boiled potatoes. They fry up quick.
My grandma always had an extra potato or 2 in the pot, just in case someone stopped by.
My memory says that someone stopping by was pretty often...and just as often at dinner time.
So the meat and veggies got divided a little smaller. There was always room at the table and food for an unplanned guest.
Which means there was nearly always leftover potatoes.
In the event someone stopped by when we were having leftover potatoes, a filler like a few slices of bread, cut or torn into chunks, stretched it out a little further.
I’m excited that y’all going to redo some of y’all older stuff.😁
I'm so glad you explained lid vs no lid! I don't have a lid that fits my pan and I've always put a cookie sheet on top of it. I never actually knew why I did, but know I like my taters fried that way. :-)
This looks delicious. I love cold pressed oils but the reason those are good for you is because they're not heated up and denatured in the pressing like most traditional vegetable oils are. That's why ya pay the big bucks for them as opposed to the regular stuff. When you use them for high heat frying that kinda negates the cold pressed nature, so I'd personally save that stuff for low temp cooking or as a finishing oil to drizzle on top of something already cooked. Same thing with extra virgin olive oil the regular stuff can be used for low heat frying and cooking but the extra virgin is to use for salads or finishing oil. I personally love coconut oil, avocado oil, or peanut oil for high heat frying and regular virgin olive oil for lower heat frying. Ghee and Tallow are delicious too of coure.
Thank you for that unfo.
I screenshot this.
I've used a lot ove Evo and of course veg oil. But we're getting older and I know I need to use healthier oil.
Are the high heat oils flavorless basically! Like coconut doesn't give a coconut taste etc?
@@micci7795 Coconut will taste of coconut heavily unless you get the refined version (Don't, refined oils are bad for you). If you want a neutral tasting oil Avocado Oil is by far your best bet. Not cheap, but really good for high heat cooking.
@@geno5360 Thank you so much!🥰
I will happily give it a try.
If it's good for our uses I'm willing to pay a bit.
I like fried goods too much so hopefully it'll hive me options.
Dear Ma'am. Please know how much I appreciate your videos. I love the Southern accent and charm. I was born in Germany, raised in Chattanooga and now live in Murfreesboro. I have lived all over this world 'cause my stepdad was in the Army. Having spent a bit of time (twice) in Massachusetts (Yup....Yankee), I'm sure you can appreciate how much I love the South. Your shows are awesome, delightful and educational. Thank you for what you do and my God bless you and your crew.
Thanks to your stepdad for his service! Thank you for your kind words, it means more to me than you will ever know. God bless you!
I learn something new every time I watch you cook. never knew the green on a tator was sunburnt also love them but to much grease was not my friend so this i will try Thanks again Becky for being a good cook and a awesome teacher .. God Bless Kathy
Iron skillets are the best I have my grandpa’s iron skillet and it’s still just as good as it was the day he bought it Thank you Becky for all your good recipes
I think everyone has had an Aunt Dot❤
Hey girl! This is just the way I like my taters. My Granny said there's no other way to get them perfect!! Good memories.😍
Love just listening to her talk. Only thing I do different is I add some red and green bell peppers.
I always add peppers too plus garlic! I’m sadly allergic to onions so we use peppers and garlic to compensate for the lost flavor of onions n a lot of our dishes.
Added the 12oz. pack of bacon and it was an amazing meal. Thank you and may God continue to Bless you and your family.
So many good tips and pointers! Whether potatoes or peanut brittle, this lady is the best cooking instructor!
Potatoes like this are great with curry powder - YUMMM!! Love your channel!! Maz from South Australia
Yes! When I add polish sausage I add curry powder, smoked paprika and turmeric too! Yummy!
This is the 1st video of yours that I have watched, and I have learned so much.I think you are a fine person - I, too, especially like the way you talk about the Lord. I struggle with my faith, and just listening to you, just in this one video, is really heartwarming. ❤
Becky.. when you said the green on the potato skins was sunburn,. I always thought they were not ripe jus quite. Are you also talking about the greyish blue places? Girl..I always learn all kinds of things from you. Thanks for all your cooking insight.
I really like your channel. I get surprised when garlic is left out, but then remember that some people from the south don't use garlic that much. Having been born a native Texan and taken up to Seattle when I was 7, I was introduced to the Asian community
where garlic and ginger was used. So when ever I cook I like the garlic in most every dish and use ginger when I can get away with it. I use Grapeseed oil also. It's not as heavy as Olive oil. Please stay on you tube as I don't do FB
No FB for me either. I'd sure miss you if you leave UA-cam.
My family loved fried potatoes and I grew up eating them. My husband liked for me to lightly toss the potatoes in cornmeal and fry them. I don’t use itty bitty potatoes. I cut my potatoes a little bigger than yours. Delicious!
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing with us, God bless you!
You are such a great teacher of cooking. I'm 72 and you are teaching me things! Thanks Becky, I really enjoy your videos!! Melaney from SoCal (southern California)
Idk u were on fb. I'm a minister and a retire

Thanks for your wonderful recipes and great cooking tips!
I don't have Facebook either but your meals always look so good
Perfect winter country meal: Pot beans and cornbread with fried taters and home canned pickled beets!
Thank you, Becky!
Sure enjoy your videos. My mother always used a metal spatula and so do I in my iron skillets. There is so many that come out with new ways, and some might be fine, but most of the time, there’s nothing wrong with the old. Thank you for not being ashamed of the gospel Becky.🥰✝️🌷🦋
I do not have Facebook now. I love watching your videos here tho 😀. God Bless You!
Good seeing you again, and your common sense. Carol
Love my cast iron skillets! I mostly use a metal spatula, but sometimes use my cedar one. I really like your videos, they reaffirm skills that my grandma used and taught me. God bless!
Thank you very much, God bless you Susan!

Just like I cook.god bless you and your.
Southern people fry everything ! I was born in Tennessee
I DO love me some fried taters!! My hubby was raised in San Diego by parents from IL and NY so I'm working on getting him countryfied! He likes his taters REALLY crispy like french fries, I like em crisp on outside but, like you, really soft on inside. I've always done thin slices, think nest time I'ma try the chunks (not sure why I've never done it that way) but I've a feeling I'll like em better!!😉. Absolutely have to use a cast iron skillet👍👍
Thank You so much for doing these videos. I enjoy learning from you so much. God Bless You and your loved ones.
I grew up on my parent's farm. Beans, cornbread and fried taters were a regular meal which I always enjoyed and never got tired of.
Hello again I just love you I love to hear your voice and listen to you thank you
I've been wanting to learn more about cooking with grape seed oil, so I appreciate this video. I cook mine with bell peppers and Vidalia onions. Also, thanks for reminding us about the benefits of iron skillets.
Thanks Becky! May God bless you! Just started watching you shows 2021 November and adore your show! Thanks!! You are so real and love that about your show!!!!❤️
My great grandmother and grandmother made fried potatoes with supper several times a week. Almost always with bacon grease. My grandpa would also take the leftover baked potatoes from the night before and slice them up for breakfast fried potatoes, skin and all.
Sorry to have so many comments but as I watch the video I just keep thinking of things.😂 You talk just like my granny did and when my sister and I would go to visit her during the summer she would she would show us how to cook stuff and she would say the same things you say, and tell us to just not believe some of the silly things people would say about how to cook stuff. She was truly a pioneer woman and I have never tasted anything I liked better than her cooking!☺️
I love your fb page and I love seeing scripture come across my fb page; I appreciate it💕
I will use celery or celery tops, also green pepper. That makes your potatoes nice, too.
My mother hated cooking, so she didn't cook many things, but one of them she cooked often was fried potatoes!
Thank you so much for these tips. I’ve given up on fried potatoes because of the fat intake was too high for me. I love watching you cook with iron and miss my mom’s old pans. They got lost somehow in a move 20 years ago and they were about 30 years old then. After petting and pricing replacements (inferior replacements) I settled on 2 this summer. 😊 Lol. Watching you must have tipped me over the edge. P.s., my prayers for you and yours.
You are making me hungry!!! God bless you and your family. Sherry from Alabama.
I love to make fried potatoes with eggs for breakfast sometimes. Hate Facebook. The "expert" cooks on the internet are often trying to sell one of their products, like special spatulas made of wood, to use with cast iron.
Do you scramble the eggs in with the potatoes or on the side ? I scramble them and pour over the potatoes after browning them and getting the grease out with paper towels . My husband’s mother made them that way and my husband asked me to make them that way after we got married and I said I’m not eating them that way and took mine out but I tried them and I loved it lol now it’s the way I make them even when I make them for supper.
Yay! I'm looking forward to watching the new videos and will add you to Facebook!
Thank you very much, God bless you!
Do you have a video on how to season a cast iron skillet?

I have been watching your videos now. for about 2 weeks and I love cooking in the iron skillits. And you cook a lot like my grandma mom and myself. I love the scriptures they are very uplifting.
Thank you for watching and your kind words. God bless you!
Found you today. Love your signs. Take care,
When onions are on sale I buy a lot and cook them in a crockpot on low with a lot of butter and dome olive oil. When they caramelize, I strain out the oil, freeze it and use it to fry eggs and potatoes. We just eat the onions as a side with cheese melted on top.
Hi Becky!!! I have never mastered these. They come out soggy. I'm going to try your method. I gave up years ago trying to make them... Yours looks so...Yummy. Great recipe. GOD bless. P. S. Your hair is really beautiful my friend!!!
Thank you very much. God bless you Diane! 💖
@@TheHillbillyKitchen The best ones we ever had were the time we went to Dollywood and they were cooking potatoes on a gigantic cast-iron griddle. What a good memory, what a fun day.
