This happy "doctor" is in fact Mr. Jaan Sild, president of Wana-Kolga Tsiklitall (vintage motorcycle club in Estonia). Yes, this is an exact reproduction of the very first mass-produced motorcycle in the world. The event itself took place 08.09.2012 in Tartu, Estonia and was a recreationon of "Suur Wõidusõitmine" ("The Great Race") that was held in the same location 117 years ago ! In 1895 was held an international bicycle track-race event, organized by local baltic-german sports club. Mr. John Schümann on his Hildebrand & Wolfmüller managed to achieve a calculated speed of 36,58 km/h over 1 werst (1,0668 km) distance time-trial. This historically documented fact is nowadays considered to be the first ever motorized speed record of Estonia. In fact, it could be interpreted as the first unofficial land speed record in the whole world. Again, our greatest gratitude belongs to Mr. Geert Versleyen (Yesterdays.nl) who kindly contributed to our event by lending us this extraordinary motorcycle. I think that it still is the only one capable of running and I must tell you - riding this nearly 1500cc prehistorical monster is the one-of-a-kind experience, you can`t really compare it with anything else. Personal experiences.
The old gent looked like a doctor of the early 20th Century responding to an urgent summons to attend a patient on his cherished motorcycle. Interesting that his cigar was making more smoke than his mount. Is it true that the H&W was the worlds first production motorcycle?
I am of Estonian heritage, Born in 1954 in NJ to Estonian émigré parents. I speak Estonian. In case anyone is curious what "sõit" in the title means, it means a "Trip or ride"
Es stellt sich die Frage, ob eine (moderne) Zündung mit Zündkerze installiert worden ist....ich habe gehört, dass die orginale Glührohrzündung ziemlich feuergefährlich war und meist nicht zum Zünden gebracht werden konnte.
Transmission was like an old steam locomotive. Fantastic ride.
Here in Indonesia, we still have one of this, at Mpu Tantular Museum, Sidoarjo - East Java.
Not running state unfortunately.

+peejay1954 could you possibly translate when they are interviewing Mr. Jaan Sild?
I could, but do not have the time to possibly print a transcript. Sorry.

Yes, it was on loan.
This is THE Yesterdays Hildebrand & Wolfmüller on loan to our friends in Tartu.
One of these sold, (unrestored), at auction in England in 2010 for $US130,000.
Dallas Nyberg see it on Bonhams Auctioneers website. It was a bit of a wreck!

Hmm...I thought Yesterday's Motorcycles' example was the only one which ran.
This bike costs 3.5million $
A steam motorcycle? Cool! What was the top speed for one of those? :-)
