  • Opel has refreshed the whole car but still haven't managed to fix long standing problems. I have a long Autumn drive while having some thoughts about both the car and the company that make it.

    Love it as the missus wanted an insignia and I wanted a 3series, went with the 3l diesel 3 series and love to see what I missed out on with Opel. Keep the videos coming dude

    I remember the first time Bob reviewed the first generation pre-facelift Insignia, it was the 1.4 turbo and he absolutely hated the car.

    Hey Bob! Kind of a silly question, but did you check the tyre pressures? Maybe they were too inflated.

    I HAVE THE PREVIOUS VERSION AND I AM QUITE HAPPY ; BOB'S REVIEW DOES NOT GIVE THE CAR THE REVIEW I WAS LOOKING FOR .

      You wanted confirmation bias.
      I own a 15 gtc, and over two years, I've have a handful of new Vx models, and I can say Vx cars are full of electrical issues. They all have terrible all round reception, especially DAB, and signal further degrades everything you plug a phone in to charge.
      On tip of that if you charge and want to use the phone to car aux in, in all models I've tested you get a ground feedback. Vx told me it couldn't be fixed as it's a design flaw, and any fix they do won't fix it. So a £7 filter off amazon was needed.
      Also another issue which may be gtc specific, is the fuel violently sloshs around the tank when over half full. To me it seems it needs some baffles in the tank. Also the cars stellar handling degrades like no other when heaven with fuel. The handling under 50% is like night and day with over 50%.
      All that aside, I do love my car, it's chassis is fantastic, as is the suspension set up. A crying shame the new astra isn't based on that set up. The new one is lord ed by the press as having an good drive. I was disappointed, getting out of my gtc and into an new astra (5 door).
      I almost bought a 15 insignia (estate) when I got the GTC. Slightly different cars I know. But I let my heart rule my head. But after 15 of driving estates, I wanted a change. As fun as my car is, I'm getting an estate next. Looking like a vrs, I'm hoping it is a nice balance of the gtc crossed with my old laguna estate. A great car BTW.

    Sunglasses, my friend. Also, what is on top of the dash between you and the windshield? Not a "heads up" display?

    Were there adaptive dampers fitted in your test car? If not, are they an option here?

    Big fan of your blogs, Bob, but I can't understand why reviewers persist with testing the diesel version of new cars when so many of us are moving away from diesel engines.

    Before you buy, make sure that you can live with the tire noise. There is a lot, even with the 18 inch wheels.

    Same car sold as Buick Regal in the USA. American's impressed by style and euro design.

    Perhaps the faults in the ride is due to the wheel & tyre combo over the cooking level car, but that should not be an excuse as they should tune the suspension to suit. To the best of my knowledge those mode buttons only alter the damper settings not the spring rate as that cannot be done with steel springs.

    I didn’t find any issues with bouncy suspensions ? Could be the large wheels ?

    Great feedback from company drivers and they are praising the fantastic ride and comfort ? You must have picked up one with a dodgy suspension.

    Well, then, we'll drive off then...
    I have driven the same car and disagree with the criticism.
    You don't understand how to use the suspension.
    With your wishes, do not press any buttons, they are for other needs than yours - obviously.
    This is a wonderful car to drive and ride.
    The seats are also excellent though you are not able to set them up, as with the suspension you get confused because you have too many options.
    You are completely wrong about the "boot" It's not the suspension that you think...
    Just like in the predecessor and in Vectra are these edges concealing a series of steel beams which is part of the rear deformation zone and just like all Opels makes the car very strong and resilient for violent crashes from behind and behind the rear seat.
    Most other car brands do not prioritize building this part of the body strong and resilient because no crash test is performed on the rear end of the body.
    For the same reason is the C-pillar on Astra wide, it conceals a huge steel beam...
    And the false side window on Insignia is hiding in the same way, a large steel beam which is one of two that goes down in the floor and contributes to the floor design.
    Sure, others are easier to load, but the price can be a dead passenger in the rear seat...
    When the heavy SUV crashes into you...
    Opel is the only one which sacrifices popular functions to build a solid car...
    The old Insignia is a Tiger Tank, that's why Opel's cars were so heavy.
    Would you rather drive a beer can, it's your choice, poor passengers...

    Aw man, those seats. At first I thought you had Father Dougal sitting beside you but then I realised they're just a tribute to his pullover.

    My first few cars were Opel back in the 80's and I loved them. They were like smaller BMWs and very hard and solid. Sadly for years now they have lost their touch and I think have become overly influenced by Japanese marquess and are quite soft.

    May not be the same in every country but as an ex fleet manager for over 200 cars in the uk dealers are corrupt when it comes to gearboxes and the dreaded engine management light sending the vehicle into slow mode

    Holden engineers will probably fix the suspension issues for Australia, but the car is just so underwhelming in so many ways. This car doesn't come up to the current Commodore cars performance and handling in Australia much less beat it. Holden is in for a world of sales hurt when this car launches.

      +Eric R - Define better cars. Yes maybe a BMW 3-series in the sum of everything is a better car but it also costs a lot more. Even an equally equipped VW Passat is more expensive. In this price range I think the Insignia is among the best.

    • @ianpurcell7266
      @ianpurcell7266 6 років тому +1

      Bryan Awkwardson well if the insignia is anything like the old one, it's gonna be a troublesome car.

    • @sukhmaidickoff
      @sukhmaidickoff 6 років тому +1

      +Ian Purcell - The reliability is not what we are talking about here. We are talking about how the new Insignia B is doing in the competition with other brands and we are talking about the competition in the same price range and not about cars that are much more expensive.
      Regarding the reliability: When I look at reliability statistics the Insignia A is not significantly worse than other brands in the same price range. But feel free to show me a statistic that proves me wrong.

    Test drove Insignia a month or so back ... I would perhaps agree with your review if there wasn't one glaring issue - PRICE.
    Please, spec a Passat with the same amount of equipment as an Insignia, go to the dealer, get a discount and then compare the prices.
    How much is a Passat with a head-up display, ventilated seats, navigation, wifi hot spot and a higher spec diesel engine? If you can come within 10k € difference in price for similarly high specced Insignia and Passat, you're a champ!
    For me, the second generation Insignia is an amazing step up compared to the first and after driving one the only thing I'm waiting for is that 8-speed automatic they'll be offering.
    Not agreeing with you on this one ...

    • @ryanmg92
      @ryanmg92 6 років тому +1

      Andrej Gobec agreed, there's no way your getting a similarly spec vw/audi/volvo etc for anywhere near the price you will get one of these for.
      Think the starting price for these is like 18k brand new or something like that

    • @Bigbencher
      @Bigbencher 6 років тому

      Andrej Gobec You are 100%. Superb and Passat great cars but not anywhere near value served up by the Insignia. Premium brands are even further off point in this regard 😉

  • @harolds789

    Original astra was a DOG. Then vectra was crap vs Mondeo/Sierra. Same with Corsa vs Fiesta and nice French supermini choices. Opel-Vauxhall never understood road holding (even though they used to own Lotus). Estate looks nice but too late- sold to Peugeot . Onstar has been in the US for decades and wifi is quite popular in lots of US cars now.

    Yet again, another Vauxhall/Opel fwd car with dodgy handling.........
    Cavalier, Vectra, Astra........
    Rear suspension is a GM thing.. this car is based on a global platform shared with other stuff. Costs money to build good suspension and GM appear to be king of the penny pinchers...
