Just adding on that when I was taking art in school, I was always also told to have two cups of water. One for washing my brush and the other for activating the paints. I admit, I've only seen him testing the watercolors so I dont know if he swaps to two cups of water. @@ADCArtAttack whilst I agree your cheap set was good as a paint it wouldn’t give you the ability to do the same things as a professional watercolour. Those are hard to mix, create a consistent colour wash … they also will quickly fade in many cases. That is all fine for throwaway art of day a young child but the reason it’s worth investing is that if you want a good watercolour to practice watercolour with. And by this I want to make it clear that I am talking washes. Layering without staining I would always recommend the cot man set, I agree that the brush in that set is tiny but as it’s a sketch set it’s a travel brush used for sketching rather than block filling, most watercolour uses a mix of brushes for different jobs that would be considered a fine liner so wouldn’t have the amount of water retention as you don’t need it. The set you had is designed to go field sketching which is why you have a loop underneath to let you hold it securely as you paint. Oh you asked why the individual wrapping it’s because it protects the paint as moisture can make them sticky. A further reason to choose a set like that is environmental as you can replace individual pans or alter that paint palette to your own needs, rather than having to buy another whole set. I guess what I am trying to say is that watercolour painting uses a lot of different techniques which the cheap pallets can’t do. (The cheap sets tend to be due based rather than natural pigment so they don’t work the same for example if you want to lift colour or create a wash or layering technique )I think in truth there needs to be a distinction between a water soluble paint and a water colour paint as the two are very different things. The cot man range is probably Google’s most recommended as it is an affordable set to get into watercolour painting especially when a single half pan of paint (which is the size in your set) can cost over £8. I am not though disagreeing with your perspective if you just want a water soluble paint it’s fine. It is not however., a great paint for watercolour. Sadly I learnt that the hard way as like you I am not professionally trained and I bought paints that style but sold by the craft stores as watercolours only to become frustrated that I couldn’t follow the techniques used for water colouring I hope this explains why I made my comment, as it pains me that I spent so much on products over the years that are sold a bit misleadingly or come to that they were very misleading ! I love your videos very much thank you for sharing your creativity, experience and mad art skills with us
@@claudioschumi87 hi the only reason I say this is as I’ve put as a longer reply to adc is that when it comes to watercolours there are a lot of techniques you use that can’t be done with this style of paint. These paints are amazing considering pound sets I’ve bought but they are totally different to the style of paint watercolorists use, for example these paints are more likely to use a dye rather than a pigment so it’s not possible to manipulate the paint in the same way. I got so frustrated trying to teach myself with similar paints to the cheap set but sold by craft stores at a premium as watercolours which is why i recommended cotman for anyone wanting to get into proper watercolour painting. As a student set they are really cheap when one paint the same size in that set at professional level csn cost up to and sometimes more than £10. I think the problem is that people like me see the cheap sets and don’t realise that there’s a huge difference between a water soluble paint and a watercolour paint. Which is why like you I love these comparison videos as they let you see the difference x I hope this explains my original comment x
@@LindzTheLooneyOfLondon very true... my grandkids may use my watercolor paints when they come and they love it. I guides them and try to make the painting they make beautiful. kids should use good materials, but not on their own. My kids did a lot of art, and used my stuff. And I tried to learn them things they didn't learned at school... but when they were painting on their own that cheap watercolor was good enough... I use schmincke, senelier and Qor. And I prefer schmincke above all... As tip I can say, buy a Corman and if you like watercoloring, everytime a pan is empty replace it with a professional grade paint. At the end you will have a whole set of high quality paint without to invest that money in 1 time. And save up money. Ask money for birthdays and Xmas gifts. Or give them a clue what you want... like I want arches paper for my birthday, or a pan or 2 professional paint. Or that kind of brushes. Or ask for a gift card from your local artstore... once people find out you are really happy with it, that you can be excited to receive 2 tiny little pans if paint, they are relieved that you are a person they know what to give as gift... lol. I should go to sleep... I am talking to much lol
As a watercolour newbie I would love to see an ADC explores watercolour series and just watch you get better and better with them. Loved the artwork both sides were absolutely gorgeous
Watercolors are my jam! The cheap ones might have a bit of tempra in them for the chalky or it's just filler? With the Winsor & Newtons, they're individually wrapped so if you run out of one colour, they actually have refills. Also if you use the Winsor & Newton pen before painting, it doesn't bleed just so long as you let it settle on the page (much like before using markers). You might be the only person in the world who loves that little plastic brush that came with the cheap ones lol!
Sam is Captain America and love how you used him for this. I love how you don’t edit out all your bloopers. Your laughter is contagious and makes your channel feel so wholesome.
This is why the W&N are individually wrapped: they are sold separately so people can either create their own set or replenish a pan when running low. The reason the brush is so tiny is that this set is meant for quick on location paintings, that are usually about postcard size. As you said, the cheap set aren't watercolor but a type of gouache or poster paint. In order to create watercolor, you need to use a transparent binder, so the paint doesn't come out opaque, also, the pigment needs to be of a better quality to preserve the translucent effect.
I actually prefer the more messy, inky look of the cheap paints. I think the bleeding worked great with the style you chose for your illustration. Needless to say though, the pigmentation and mixing abilities of the expensive paint was incredible 😍
Great video. Winsor took the cake. The control and colors were top notch. Maybe have a different brush to go with that little brush and it looks like it is a solid water color set! (I am not an artist so take my opinion with a grain of salt, haha)
about the wraps, on the wrappers you have color names, lightfastness info and pigment numbers so you can replace the paint and be sure your work will not fade.
Interesting Approach - never thought of bringing Watercolor and Fineliner together. And the individual wrapping Winsor did with their paint - I think you can buy the colors individually and put your palette together as you like to work with. And it prevents cross-contamination of the paint during transport.
I think the Windsor and Newton ones will do great However, surprisingly, the cheap paints made a way better look on Falcon than the expensive paints. I can speak from experience. But ADC, you made my day. Maybe my week. But yeah, cheap is far better than expensive imo
Hands down it is Winsor &Newton paints. The cheap paints has more filler, that is the reason why it looks chalky. It's also known as cake batter paints. Since you are new with watercolors, you have alot to learn and this is coming from a watercolor artist.
I love the whole piece! I think it's incredible! I love how you were able to create a well-defined image with one of those weird plastic paintbrushes on the $1 paint set side, and really love the definition and nuances in color that you were able to get with the W&N side. If I had to pick a favorite, though, I'd have to pick the W&N. The opacity of that white paint is incredible!
It was really cool to see you use this medium. You colored like you were using markers. From what I've seen, people usually use the fluidity of watercolors to their advantage, but you used them as the technical artist that you are. Very cool. I'm like you. I prefer markers and colored pencils, but you've given me some ideas with paint... ☺️
I haven't finished watching yet, but i just woke up and now I realize how fast you talk. Lol. The thumbnail made me click, because The Falcon And The Winter Soldier was an epic series.
@@ADCArtAttack lol. I was like woah. That doesn't matter. You killed that artwork. Yeah no need to apologize. I just thought it was great that I was able to keep up after just waking up. Good work.
Yes I picked it. That being said, growing up my grandparents had a set of water colours that I would paint with whenever I visited. I used to love using them. It taught baby artist me to just love painting and going to town with my creativity. I think that there’s a place in every kid’s life for cheap art supplies to experience and experiment with. It’s great that people don’t have to have a lot of money to encourage their kids creativity. Windsor and Newton isn’t expensive and is well worth the cost, but some families really just don’t have that extra capacity to spend. In which case the halfway decent cheap sets aren’t going to kill off a kids joy for painting. Then as they get older they can start to try better quality stuff and appreciate the improvement in quality.
Amazing to see another great cheap vs expensive video, ADC. Your channel is great to watch. Glad to see your hand is better, judging by the lack of cast. Sorry to hear about that. But, all that matters is that you're fine, and back for another great video.
It's usable but unfortunately It could be a permanent pain due to this ongoing pain I'm feeling when I rest on the hand, I have to be careful and hope. But thank you so much for your concern :)
@@ADCArtAttack Despite that, don't let that pain deter you from enjoying your art, and creating content we enjoy. Best of luck to you, and you're welcome. 👍
something you could have done with the cheap one to make new colors is get a clean your brush and get a lot of water in the brush, chose a color and drop the colored water on the plastic thing. Then repeat the process with a color you want to mix it with and drop in next or in the other colored drop and there you have a new color.
I really enjoyed this comparision. I really like that you did a real test with the cheaper colors. you layered and blended and didnt just slap it on and make the winsor look better automaticly. I do pick the Winsor & Newton
I have the large Windsor and newton set, they come individually wrapped so that you can either buy pans that you want (and set aside colours you don't want ect) or you can just replace pans 1 at a time. When I bought my set there were a couple of colours I know I'll never use, so I've put them away (still wrapped) in my art supplies and put some of my own colour pans in place Awesome work once again x
Something that I would like to see in this series is the Winsor & Newton Water Color Paint vs. Winsor & Newton Brush Markers. Great video once again. Hope your day is amazing, everyday!!😊👍
Love how you manage to use both types of watercolors, no matter the quality you did a great job on both sides, however I prefered the right side more. As an artist I don’t use watercolors because I can’t control it as I wanted. Much love!!! Ahh send love to Bob Quack!
One thing i totally love about your videos, is, that you cut in those clips that is unscribted, so that the video en awesome and funny to watch. Insted of cutting most of the video, you cut it in, i really like that, it gives the viewer depth and personality and gives the give meaning, and in some cases the viewer remembers the video. That is why i love to see your videos :-D
I like idea of others who may feel inspired to know that video making isn't perfect and we all make errors :) so I appreciate this comment. It's very easy to remove them, but I like them :)
Love the colors! You are very talented and i say both sides look awesome and think it's fantastic that you can create something so cool with cheap art supplies. You have inspired me alot with my art in last 12 months i must say 👍🏻.
Hi, ADC and Bob! I would love to see you draw Loki, maybe for a Cheap vs Expensive comparison. Loki is my favorite Marvel character and I'm so excited for the Disney+ series!
Knew the Coatman’s was gonna kick the hobby paint ! Coatmans are student grade water paints, highly recommended for art students, you are right the new paint brush that is in this set is horrid, this is a travel set though, I would recommend taking another brush (well three to be truthful) you did a great job.
Hey, at least you didn't get the big Winsor and Newton 45 set heheh I had to unwrap all 45. It made my fingers hurt so much. That was last year. I just started using them this year. I've been using them so much lol. It doesn't even come with a brush
I have actually used both of these sets and found they're both fairly good. You'll be surprised, the cheap looking brush works better than you'll expect!! :D Reeves also do a good set. The type of paper you use also makes a massive difference when using water colours!
I actually have the little Cotman set. It's brilliant for plein aire work. Frankly, you'll see a bigger jump in quality when you go to tubed watercolour rather than comparing two types of dry pans. One other tip for you or anyone else used to using markers: try watercolour brushpens! You fill these up with water, mix your colour (with a diff brush), and then suck up your colour into the brushpen. Talk about control over custom colours as well as gradients during application! Cheers, MB. ...oh! And use more of a dry brush technique as this will be closer to your markers.
The tiny brush they give you is intended as a travel brush you can keep in the travel palette, and is anticipated for use on much smaller pieces like in a sketchbook
The watercolours are individually wrapped each with a barcode on the back so you can replace them by buying that single colour. It means you can customise your colour palette for the little carrycase - some watercolour artists paint landscapes out and about so it makes the paints portable :)
Ah, the memories... I used that type of cheap whatercolours all through my elementary school years. They are an essential part of my childhood. Gosh, that awful brush that looked like a broom.... but i still loved the paints.
I was cringing so hard watching you use the super cheap paints. The super cheap art supplies made me seriously hate & avoid art as a child because I couldn't do what I wanted. I'm just so glad you found so much joy & pleasure in using something so horribly produced. It reminds me of how much joy comes from being creative no matter what you use. It's all in how the artist sees their work.
winsor and newton are the best waatercolour paints ever, its so good, i use them a lot. BTW they're super easy to unwrap, like literally 2 seconds, you unwrap them from the bottom
I’m using Windsor & Newton water colors and they’re certainly one of the best out there. Here in Germany we actually differ from „water color“ and „aquarell colors“ bc the latter will last longer and not lose color (more UV resistant).
*Whispers!* Let water soak into your paint for a minute or two and it'll go right onto your brush! Then right onto the paper! As Emily Artful says: Light thin layers, build build build! I hope you work with watercolors more in the future, once you're used to the steps it's very soothing to use them. PS if you like laying it on thick and matte, try gouache!
I love cotmans they are a lovely student grade watercolor paint!! I even still use them sometimes preferring them over the artist quality paints depending on what im working on!!!
As an occasional watercolor artist myself ...I have used some supercheap paints and also the mid range brands and it makes a big difference"Sometimes"😅 .. success in this medium can depend on your paintbrush, paper and also techniques and skills of the artist.
Pretty much all student and professional grade pan watercolor sets tend to be individually wrapped. I think it is more so because they tend to sell pans both open stock and in sets they just package them all the same, plus it ensures you know what color each one is without any doubt. I would recommend the crayola over the more chalky cheap watercolors. Cotman paints are also student grade watercolors. I am not a fan of the cotman 12 ct pan set, more so because the colors I ended up with were more muted than I would have liked. They aren't bad paints, just not my favorite. There is a newer product which is the derwent inktense pans, they are similar to watercolor, but they don't lift much at all.
The other issue is that those $1 watercolors are not lightfast. They are made with dyes vs pigments and will fade sometimes in as little as a couple of weeks.
Love these videos and I loved the live stream! I'd be intrigued to know the longevity of the cheap vs expensive art mediums. If the expensive ones last twice or three times as long, does that affect their respective value?
In terms of natural degradation or how long they are usable? Natural I wouldn't know due to my room having no natural light, but usable could be a fun experiment
@@ADCArtAttack I was thinking usable, so, for example, how much ink does an expensive pen hold compared to a cheap pen. Would probably be quite boring to do, but could be cool to see how many full pages different priced pens, pencils, etc last for :-)

Id agree. That is a great idea, adc explores: .. few episodes per..
Your laughter is contagious and makes your channel feel so wholesome.
yeah? why is that so hard? Caption America! is it his Wings that though it off?🤔
This is why the W&N are individually wrapped: they are sold separately so people can either create their own set or replenish a pan when running low.
Let's just admit that whatever he draws with, his art still turns out amazing. 🎨🖌️ or ✏️ or 🖋️ or 🖍️=😱🤩
It’s not about the paint, it‘s your ✨talent✨. Omg you‘re so talented and I‘m learning so much from you, thank you 😭💕
Please If you like painting, have a look!
Thank you so much!

@@volonteville2150 omg this is so pretty 🤭✨
Than you so much!!
I never knew that cheap art supplies are that good!😅 Moral: just have fun with art no matter what medium or materials your using!
Definitely! I have even used charcoal from a cold fireplace and that was a fun experience.
Your hand looks like it got better. I’m so happy you were able to draw without pain😊
Initial thought - Windsor & Newton. Final thought - Windsor & Newton, but surprised how you made the cheap ones look so good. 🤩
Those intros are legendary😂😂
So satisfying seeing the prices in euros as an European 😂
Yes lol... I am already expert level converting dollar to euro.. as the USA PEOPLE provide good art videos.
Interesting Approach - never thought of bringing Watercolor and Fineliner together.
And the individual wrapping Winsor did with their paint - I think you can buy the colors individually and put your palette together as you like to work with. And it prevents cross-contamination of the paint during transport.
This is AMAAAAZZZIIIINGGGGGG you should make a flip book someday
Would love to, but I'm too OCD for that, I would struggle to NOT be perfect
Yayyyy I got a like
Ah oh 😂
Did you know that a wise man once said: MOVIN ON
I think a wet-in-wet (prewetting the paper) approach would have been great for you to use with the pretty rough brushes!
I like the $1 water color it just looks more bright BTW your art skills are amazing
their individually wrapped so u can purchase speficic color cake replacements
Watercolor is my primary medium and it's so interesting and fun watching you use them. As always both turned out amazing.
Awesome comparison! Its amazing how well u used the cheap watercolor paint! 😊
I think the Windsor and Newton ones will do great
However, surprisingly, the cheap paints made a way better look on Falcon than the expensive paints.
What a great drawing adc!🔥 both sides are cool and I like winser and newton more👌
I love the whole piece!
I really enjoy your videos so much, the humour, chaos, talent and just general awesomeness make for a fab video 😍
I haven't finished watching yet, but i just woke up and now I realize how fast you talk. Lol. The thumbnail made me click, because The Falcon And The Winter Soldier was an epic series.
The I totally messed up! I usually slow down my speaking, but I was live streaming and I just went blank lol it was super over the top fast. Apologies
@@ADCArtAttack i don't really care how fast you speak as long as i can hear what you are saying 👍also you don't need to apologise it was amazing 👌🏻
I love that you keep the bloopers in this video. It's hilarious.
Get well soon..
@@ADCArtAttack
Despite that, don't let that pain deter you from enjoying your art, and creating content we enjoy. Best of luck to you, and you're welcome. 👍
The artist matters so much, and you sir are a good artist.
The way you use cheap art supplies is amazing.
Love watercolours. Well done man very enjoyable vid as always
something you could have done with the cheap one to make new colors is get a clean your brush and get a lot of water in the brush, chose a color and drop the colored water on the plastic thing.
When I bought my set there were a couple of colours I know I'll never use, so I've put them away (still wrapped) in my art supplies and put some of my own colour pans in place
Awesome work once again x
Yay for the upcoming coloring book!!
Something that I would like to see in this series is the Winsor & Newton Water Color Paint vs. Winsor & Newton Brush Markers. Great video once again. Hope your day is amazing, everyday!!😊👍
Beautiful artwork. I working my way to watch Falcon and the winter soldier
Can we just appreciate his enthusiasm into the video compared to older youtube video's of his
I love the pencil and eraser that come in there with the collapsible brush really 👍👍👍👍
Really like the animated style face on cheap side, but the realistic aspect of right side is also nice
Your art is so distinct! Also that “and this is bob!” gets me every time!
Love how you manage to use both types of watercolors, no matter the quality you did a great job on both sides, however I prefered the right side more. As an artist I don’t use watercolors because I can’t control it as I wanted. Much love!!! Ahh send love to Bob Quack!
I'd love to see you do another comparison where you use the Windsor & Newtown brush with the cheap paints and vice versa.
Impressiv coloring with the cheap! But the expensive are more colorful intense (as always i guess :D)
@ADCArtAttack Individually wrapped = fancy! Your good watercolor pans will come like that. Individually wrapped like candies!
Haha...they are all individually wrapped. That's the part. So glad you're doing watercolour.
×that's the best part. unwraping
Can you do Watercolor pencils ADCArtAttack? Love your channel.
The winsor and Newton one. I use them myself together with Van Gogh watercolor. They are so smooth, i love them 🥰
I have actually used both of these sets and found they're both fairly good. You'll be surprised, the cheap looking brush works better than you'll expect!! :D Reeves also do a good set.
The type of paper you use also makes a massive difference when using water colours!
You are literally the best artist out there and ever!
There is a clear difference in quality. Awesome demo.
Ah, the memories... I used that type of cheap whatercolours all through my elementary school years. They are an essential part of my childhood. Gosh, that awful brush that looked like a broom.... but i still loved the paints.
You really are brilliant. 👍🏻 love watching what you can do especially with child’s stuff.
Yes, I’ve been waiting for this! Loved TFATWS. This costume rules!
Great channel and love your passion for art! Congrats on 500k+ subs! #roadto1Mill
Your art looks amazing even with a cheep brush and colours and so happy using it.
He used Watercolors so differently that it looks better than if it weren't different.
The Windsor and Newton is my favorite and I totally could see the difference.
Been waiting for this video for a long time
Within 30 mins. I think that still counts as early?. Anyway, great video! Loved the finished piece
I just love this series ❤️ may you recieve all the success bro 👍🏻
The reason for the individual wrapping is for the shelf life and integrity of the paint.
Yeeeeesssss. Not been waiting long at all 👀😜🤣
I apologise in advance haha
I was cringing so hard watching you use the super cheap paints. The super cheap art supplies made me seriously hate & avoid art as a child because I couldn't do what I wanted. I'm just so glad you found so much joy & pleasure in using something so horribly produced. It reminds me of how much joy comes from being creative no matter what you use. It's all in how the artist sees their work.
you should swap the brushes and give it another try ! cheap brush with expensive paint and the other way around. great video !
I think they are all individually wrapped to ensure their safety so they don’t break on the way to you and they show you what colour they are x
Also because they probably sell them individually, if you run out of one if them
Good to see that your hands is better. I've been waiting for a long time for you to make watercolor videos and it is great.🤙🤙🤙
Another video from ArtAttack giving me a HeartAttack from amazingness
winsor and newton are the best waatercolour paints ever, its so good, i use them a lot.
And I recommend to use Winsor and Newton cotman products for watercolor painting 🎨🎨🖌️🖌️
The winsor Newton are quite nice, the packaging is very beautiful :)
The right side is my favorite, hands down!
