one of the reasons I think why Vi and Jinx couldn't connect at all in the end was because of Vi's inability to recognize any changes that powder had gone through and what she became. The reason you hear Milo's laugh at the tea party is because he recognizes that what Vi is saying is a lie, but Jinx wants to believe that lie, so she shoots the doll to make him shut up

The first season of Arcane was the story of Powder becoming Jinx. Even if in real life the descent isn't necessarily permanent or irreversible, for story purposes there is no longer Powder. Moving forward, Jinx will not be the main focus like she was in this Season and will assume the role of antagonist moving forward is most likely what will happen.
My guess for Season 2, will part of it be Vi's story arc in dealing with the aftermath of finally losing Powder, and basically finding out what her purpose moving forward will be as all these years she only thought about getting back and taking care of Powder. And this will be undoubtedly become more complicated with the inevitable war between PIltover and Zaun.
Given we don't know who is dead from the Super Mega Death Rocket Jinx fired, it's hard to say how the war will be shaped. But one thing is certain, Jinx is but the first 'monster' that will come in the chaos of the war.

Vi is naming the people that are her fondest memories, her safe place, what got her through her hardest hours not realizing these are the exact opposite for Jinx.
Its her worst nightmares, her trauma and guilt.
Here is the twist, I think Silco knew this.
When he yells at Jinx to not listen to Vi, thats not cause he think she will actually convince her.
I think it because he knows the pain its causing her.

YOU have been the FIRST streamer I've seen hit the nail on the head with Vi stroking the fire that is Jinx's psychosis by trying to get her to 'remember' her trauma. Vi didnt know the harm she was doing, but Silco did which is why he was trying to kill Vi in his final moments. To protect Jinx. I'm so glad I watched your reactions as well. I don't think Silco was doing it to protect Jinx. I think his fear of losing Jinx to Vi is bigger than his concern over whatever mental health impact Vi's words have on Jinx. He is just afraid that Vi's words might actually pull Jinx away from him and "to her side". Killing Cait was the ultimate compliance test for Jinx: Cait was an enforcer, she signified everything Piltover stands for and what they were fighting against, and if Jinx can't kill her because Vi asks her not to, this means Jinx is lost to Silco. So Silco MUST convince Jinx to do his will instead of Vi's in that situation.

Silcos "Is there anything so undoing, as a daughter ?" has to be taken in context:
EP3: Silco ask WHY Vander stopped fighting, how can it be that he became this tame peacemaker.
EP9: "it all makes sense now brother" < As Silce realizes that he is NEVER going to give up on his Daughter and would do anything for her, he realizes that THIS is the reason why Vander changed: His Daughter Vi.

Something I liked about the Silco and Jayce scene is how Silco's gaze is unflinching until Jinx is mentioned. When Jayce brings up Jinx Silco breaks eye contact and looks away. A little detail but something that shows how much Silco cares about Jinx. He never considered her for part of the peace deal and when she's brought up as a bargaining piece he becomes defensive and even puts himself as responsible instead of her.
Also the death of Silco has an interesting difference from Vanders. When Vander died Vi punched and "abandoned" powder. Where as when Silco dies he specifically tells her "you're perfect". A completely different response and one that kind of solidifies for Jinx that Jinx is who she is now.

This is because Powder has called herself Jinx since Silco took Powder.
She probably doesn't like being called Jinx, Powder by other people. Except for Violet, of course.
Powder chose the name Jinx and Silco knows it. Silco shouts to Violet the name Powder has chosen, because that is her name.
Silco knows about Powder's trauma and all of her past, and until this episode Silco constantly tried to save Powder from all sorts of situations that would annoy her, most of the time (until Violet sets foot in the underground city of course). After all, they have been living together for 7 years. I think it's a possibility, guess, theory, whatever you want to call it.

The show is full of those little expressions. When Vi is punch drunk and "Vander" taunts her with "Your guard could use some work" (9:25) the show went to the trouble of putting in a sneering "Heh!" from Vi.
It's silent and half-formed in her delirious state but it's still there. And it may have any number of layers (from "Good one, you jerk" to "Great, I'm so headsmacked I'm hearing Vander's voice") but it feels so natural.

Last time, she was yelled at, hit, told she messed up, and (to her) tossed aside. This time, there's no anger, no violence, no pushing her away. I love that Riot and Fortiche decided to have Ekko and Heimerdinger team up, because its such a nice subversion of a popular trope, instead of the Wise Old Master Teaches Young Student, it becomes The Old Student Taught By The Young Master. Also, I can never get over the song at the end of the episode, because, to me, it's directed at Vi. She's the one that created the "monster" that is Jinx, and Jinx just wanted to be loved by her. When she punches Powder that’s traumatizing for her and when vi left her WE know Vi tried to come back but for seven years or so Powder/Jinx thought Vi abandoned her and that’s traumatizing and it happened partly because of Vi and don’t forget when vi says “Milo was right you are a Jinx” take it in from powder’s perspective the person who always defended her and supported her against the idea of her being a jinx punched her and suddenly confirmed something that she had always defended her against. Essentially a lot of her trauma was from the hands of the person she was closest to (Vi) yes Silco helped build on that trauma but silco didn’t have to say anything that caused powder to say vi wasn’t her sister he simply asked where she was and on her own she said (with no convincing from silco before hand and at that very moment) “she’s NOT my sister anymore” Surely Silco continuously solidified that in her mind but the thought originally came to Powder through how she perceived Vi’s actions without any external influence and these events basically built the foundation for powder to become Jinx a “monster” and you can’t really build anything without a foundation and we have Vi to thank for that yk

And she seems to have some self-awareness of her condition and how it's perceived by other people; she's using this with her somewhat twisted sense of humor, like the joke with the "cupcake" on a plate in this episode, and when she questioned the terrified Thieram/Chuck in the bar.

If its DID, Jinx cannot kill Powder, she might be able to contain her, but Jinx, at her core, is a protector alter. It would be in direct violation of her function to kill the Powder alter. When she says "you can have Powder back", I take it as more of a "I'll stop fronting, and I'll let the Powder alter out of containment". If Vi kills Caitlyn, Jinx loses her source. There is no reason for Jinx to exist if Powder is safe and happy.

@@xandersorrows7341 I don't think Jinx is suffering from split personality, as much as every decision is a crossroads for her. One way is the normal, sensible way, the "Powder" way. The other is the violent, amoral, do whatever she has to way, the "Jinx" way. Powder is who she was as a child, needing to be protected, Jinx is who she wants to be, a person who is strong, isn't weak, is useful, can protect herself.
Powder/Jinx aren't two separate personalities, as much as they are a decision for who "Powder" wants to be. She offered Powder back because she is desperate for approval and love, especially from those she cares about, to be told she's worth something, that she isn't a problem.
And in Silco's final moments, after she made another terrible mistake, killing someone she loved, instead of being abandoned (even though that wasn't Vi's fault) or yelled at or hit, he tells her she's perfect, that it's ok. Vi loves her, but Vi can't understand who or what she is anymore. Silco (as unhealthy and toxic as he was for Powder) accepted and loved her despite all the horrible things she did, even when she killed him. That's why in the end, she chose the "Jinx" chair.
When she says "I thought you could love me like you used to, even though I'm... different," she's plainly saying Powder and Jinx are her, they are the same person. That line wouldn't make sense if she thought of Powder and Jinx as different people/personalities.

Silco is a fantastic example of how more stories should be writing villains.
At the end of the day, what is your villain if not a person. The best stories are the ones we can relate to and engage with and feel strongly invested in. Silco is not comically evil... He is his own person with his own motivations and morals and reasons for fighting. Above all else, he is a human. His attachment to Jinx was genuine, and it came from a place of shared trauma. We felt his self reflection and doubt, and we cried along with Jinx when she was forced to kill him. There are no winners in war, only survivors, and nobody escapes war with clean hands.
Speaking of war, Ambessa Medarda is likely about to go off the deep end. Even if some of the councilors do survive, even if Mel survives, Ambessa will not let this attack go unanswered. There will be consequences for what Jinx just did. Seeing as Ambessa has her own influence and soldiers from Noxus to support her, I'm fearful she's going to take things to Zaun herself.
Season 2 is definitely going to be something, if it even focuses on these same characters.

Very apt that Jinx put Cait in her Enforcer’s uniform. A way of saying, “hey, remember, we hate these guys?” And that also contributed to her line of “you changed too.” Yikes.
I could literally write pages on that dinner scene but I’m going to try and keep it brief.
It’s such a master class of everything coming together. The story, the music, the tension, the animation. Everything about that scene just adds that extra layer and it’s astounding.
Any scene that makes me think even for a split second, even with meta knowledge on my side, that Cait’s head was on the platter deserves an award in all honesty. There was a cupcake, however… that’s some dark humor there, Jinx.
The way this show plays with Powder vs Jinx is so good (even if people take it far too literally sometimes). Jinx presents the option of Powder and Jinx to Vi. Says that she’ll be Powder again, if Vi can kill Cait.
But it’s a false choice, and I think even Vi knows it. Powder’s chair is pushed into the table, surrounded by clutter. Jinx’s chair is pulled out and ready to be sat in at any time. It’s inevitable how it’s all going to end, that Jinx is going to sit in that chair no matter what at the end of all this.
And it’s heartbreaking because we know Jinx is a victim. She’s been through so much, but she’s not the only victim in this scene. Vi loves her sister so much, still thinks there’s maybe some sort of hope. But no matter how much she loves her sister, she can’t enable her homicidal tendencies. She can’t defend her actions anymore. Silco has become Jinx’s enabler.
When they were kids, Vi would’ve let Powder get away with murder (figuratively). But she can’t anymore.
There’s also just the idea of how their past loved ones affect them in the present. For better or worse, Vi uses the people she loved as a means of pushing herself forward. It’s what kept her sane in Stillwater, it’s what pushed her beyond her limits in the fight between her and Sevika. It’s why she can’t see that it’s not the same for Jinx. Jinx sees them all as demons, monsters that torment her.
And it’s this disconnect that is ultimately their undoing.

    • @revanflame
      @revanflame 2 роки тому +29

@@Ockerlord That's a very shortsighted view of things. The fact is that Vi, at no point in the entirety of the series, acknowledges Jinx; It's always Powder. Humans have a great capacity for change, but we cannot change what has already been done. There are plenty of excuses for what Vi did in Episode 3, but at the end of the day, what she did was abandon her sister to a crime lord. And while she feels compelled to "fix" that mistake by saving Powder, the honest truth is that there is no Powder any longer. Jinx is the sum of all of the events that have lead to this moment, the good and the bad, and while she has the capacity to change again, she can never go back to who she was before. And because Vi refuses to acknowledge Jinx, she can't begin to help guiding her back to a more stable and healthy individual.
The only reason Vi didn't judge Jinx is because she does not consider Jinx and Powder to be the same person. And it's for that same reason that Jinx says "I thought maybe you could love me like you used to."

I LOVE that people in the show keep treating Powder/Jinx like a dichotomy or a duality, like they are two separate people that she has to choose between, but even at the end, that simply isn't true. Silco tells Jinx that Powder needs to die when he 'baptizes' her, but we still see those moments of childish vulnerability, and remorse, and love for Vi.
And then even at the end when she is setting up that dichotomy, kills Silco, and chooses to sit in the Jinx chair, she still isn't 'just' Jinx. She cries and shows that vulnerability and insecurity when talking about how she thought Vi could love her even though she is different. It's almost like in that moment her personality is at its most integrated. She cries as she commits her biggest act of violence and chaos yet, and regrets that things hadn't gone differently.
A lot of makes her Powder is what makes her Jinx, and people aren't so simple that in a moment they can just choose to half of who they are (I recognize that DID is a bit different and also complicated, but Jinx doesn't seem to exhibit that to me.)

Jinx truly does have a tragic flaw, in that she really *does* self-sabotage things right when she or those she cares about are right on the cusp of success. Knocking the board over which led to them losing all the loot at the beginning. Her monkey bomb resulting in the deaths of her entire family, basically. She recovers the hex gem, but is nearly killed in the process and forever changed by what Singed did to her to save her life. Then, at the end, the council have all unanimously agreed to give her and the Undercity literally *everything* Silco has wanted for decades, but right as they finish voting, her rocket impacts and could wipe out the entire council.

Silco scorned Vander for this weakness, but in this episode, he realizes Vander's perspective. Has anybody else been seeing Jinx trying to get herself killed straight after each time she is stressed? Episode 4 at the end of the scene where she projects Vi onto the pink haired girl. She taunts Sevica, you see Sevica powering up her arm under the cloak before getting distracted by the alert. You can see Jinx's disappointment/anger when Sevica turns away. Later when she is in her "room" after being side-lined by Silko you see her playing chicken with the grenade countdowns when she is being haunted and only stops once she reaches a decision that drives her "demons" to silence and responds by throwing all the grenades/temptation away. On the bridge in "Boy Saviour" when Ekko has her pinned her expression changes from fearful, to a sort of peaceful acceptance like "finally" before she releases the grenade. Even in the final scene she takes that gamble when facing down Caitlyn and only puts the gun down when Vi stops Caitlyn and calls Jinx her sister. (It's also hinted at when you see her kill the raven in the arcade, during the bridge fight scene the raven is her background "mascot" in the childhood game flashback. As well as ravens appearing in various scenes with Jinx, the reunion with Vi being an easy example.)

I'm glad you liked this show. It was nice journey with your commentary / insight. I expect many things in the season two but I will not talk about that here because I know alot about the lore of the actual game so this might be spoilers.

Cool reaction, as usual! though I did thought you were going to say something about the Finn-scene, where Seveka decided to stay faithful to Silco.

This episode leaves a few hopeful spots for season 2.
Number one is that Heimerdinger is with Ekko and the Firelights. Despite his youth and inexperience, Ekko has been shown to be an effective leader, and effective in moving the story and people around him in a positive direction. Heimerdinger was shown to be ineffective, but he is a genius with centuries of experience, so pairing those two in the vacuum caused by Silco's death puts them in position to be a poweful force for the whole of the undercity.
Second is that Caitlyn is likely to be the next Sheriff of Piltover, the new head of House Kiramman, and a member of Piltover's council. She's been shown to make good choices, she knows a bit about the undercity (and has some sympathy), and she's one of the characters who is effective in achieving long term goals, so putting Caitlyn and Vi into leadership of Piltover's enforcers is probably a good thing.
All of the old guard might be gone, but the old guard was largely responsible for the rift between Piltover and Zaun, and we've been shown young characters who are wiser and in good positions to lead in season 2.
Also, Vander is almost certainly coming back. it looked like he was hanging from the machinery in Singed's lab in the last scene. he was pumped full of shimmer when he died, and he didn't shrink down the way people do when shimmer wears off, so he was likely still alive at the end of ep 3.
In the council, I'm pretty sure Jayce and Viktor will survive, possibly with a hextech forcefield like the one Vi used to stop Sevika's blade. I want to tell myself that Mell will survive, because she turned out to be a great character; if she does it will have something to do with that gold chest piece she wears under her clothes and never takes off, even when "naked". The rest of the council probably died though.

One more silver lining, Sevika will probably take charge of Zaun/The Undercity. Now, I know that don't sound good, but here me out. Was it The Undercity that blew up the council? No. It was Jinx, who was already responsible for most of the recent problems plaguing Piltover. Sevika has no love for Jinx and has seen her as a problem from day one (or at least episode 4). I can easily see her agreeing to give Jinx to Piltover for a similar deal to the one Silco had with Jace.

The show is all taking place in the past by the way. It’s the origin story/backstory for characters within the game League of Legends and jinx spiraling was always going to be the end result. Even know that I really enjoyed the story. I recommend checking out the “Get Jinxed” music video that was their first introduction of visual narrative

I don't say this often, but I consider this show a masterpiece. Everything from storytelling and soundtrack to animation and voice acting. 10/10 on my list. Sadly, there is no guarantee the second season would continue this storyline, as there are too many characters and stories from the world of League of Legends not even scratched upon. But one is certain, whatever the second season be, it would be a spectacular work of art, because all the artistic geniuses working on it.

Thank you for all the videos! I like watching reaction videos, but in reality most of them don't have any content... Yours though, they have so much content, and because of it you can give us thoughts and analysis no one ever did! I loved watching Arcane again with you :D

Your reactions to Arcane are among my favourites. You provide such a great analysis of the show. I wanted to ask, will you watch a docuseries about making of Arcane? It's called "Arcane: Bridging the Rift", and there are already 2 episodes of it on UA-cam (overall will be 5 episodes). It's super inspiring and insightful.

No show has ever made me sob over the death of the antagonist/villain, but I cried so hard over Silco. Because over all of his flaws and how cruel he could be, he really was the good guy in his world. He had a movement he cared so deeply about, and a daughter that he valued over anything, and his death just hit so hard for me, Jinx's reaction just made me cry harder, this show is too fuckin good

One thing I feel like I don’t often see people mention but is likely rolled into other things is the reason why I feel as though Vi still calls her Powder. And truthfully I think one of the reasons is because she never wanted to call her Jinx again. I think she feels like by doing so she’s validating what she said to her all those years ago, I could imagine she’s afraid that Jinx would say “so you DO think I’m a jinx” and I could absolutely see Vi being very, very afraid of that.

Thank you for the interesting and insightfull reactions, Arcane is the reason I subscribed to your channel😃 The ending is epic, and for me rocket cliffhanger did not matter. Family dinner is the great dramatic ending for me! The satisfying end of The Season One is the Jinx deciding who she is. When she had sat on that chair with Jinx name like a boss, arghhhh it was epic and sad at the same time! And Silco, that last scene with him tear me apart... He told Jinx "YOU are perfect", before he was telling "Jinx is perfect". He trully accept her fully, and Vi wasn't ready to do that (remeber how she looked on Jinx in ending of 6th episode fight?), yes she didn't have the time to reconnect to get to know grown up little sister (almost worked if the end of 6th ep.🥺), but still ... Vi just was more radical in her opinions, like younger Silco with Vander...

P.S. There is one scene in last 9th episode which I find very important for season 2, but a lot people overlooked it. When Silco and Jayce was meeting on city walls, Jayce said: "I was reminded recently of what brought us together in the first place The threats beyond our walls". And Silco had answered: "The city has a short memory". Threats beyond OUR walls! Like Noxus Empire, the mommy general Medarda is part of! So I hope, that in Season 2, the both part of the City, after some struggle, will be forced to cooperate for survival and fight the outsiders to remain independent!

There is a parallel between the scene where Silko says "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" to the scene where Vi says there are things powder can't do. The parallel is that in both cases Powder/Jynx fails to hear the next part. the part that comes after what Silko said is "They offered me everything I ever wanted, and all they asked for was the one thing I can never give them."

My suggestion is I'd love to see you watch the anime Castlevania and talk about each individual's relationships with each other and the differences.
