I see this game as a serious attempt to bridge the gap between live action movie and realtime rendered CGI on home consumer hardware, making it a true interactive movie (including the photo mode to explore the virtual environments further). Even if it has flaws, this alone makes it an exciting experience, because it is a revolution in pop culture. In the 80s and 90s they talked about that, and now it is about to become reality. Gaming studios and movie studios will melt and story tellers will be able to decide to tell a story non-interactive (on TV or in the cinema) or interactive (via console/PC) on the same level of quality (or even provide two versions created from the same assets).
And another revolution is on the horizon too, since I just bought my first graphics card (RTX 4060 TI 16GB) primarily to run Generative AI (Large Language Models also called "chatbots" and high resolution image generation with Stable Diffusion) on it locally (the models need a lot of VRAM). The gaming aspect was only a second thought for the first time. In the future games will also use LLMs to create true interactive improvising environments and characters and graphic cards will adapt to that, providing more VRAM and the ability to run Generative AI (LLMs) and a game at the same time.
And at some point a gaming engine like Unreal will completely melt with Generative AI and a user can generate a game with story, environment and characters by just using a prompt describing what you want (like Star Trek's Holodeck, which in a way was the first Generative AI shown in action in a Hollywood TV series - you could call it "EnvironmentGPT").
I just finished its amazing. Its a trip into Senua's mind and everything its so touching and intense. I LOVE it very much. Love you too Julia great content!! Keep it up!
No way! I love this game so much I didn't realize you played the first one! Great video :)
This game is seriously polished. The animation transitions of Senua's character model are seamless when controlled by the player and she fully articulates every line of dialogue outside the cutscenes with her mouth, like it was motion captured, even though the camera is usually behind the back not showing her face and the player misses this detail.
There's a behind the scenes video about the making of the game that's quite interesting. They built a fairly large motion capture stage that even uses projectors to show the actors what's around them in capture sessions. And dialog and facial expressions were motion captured. They use a head mounted camera pointed at the actors face. That's standard in a lot of recent games.

Isn't Hellblade 2 a fantastic game?
Visually, it's definitely a big step forward, and I love the small details such as the grass or how water acts and interacts within the game, including waves crashing on the shore.
A little tip to help when it comes to those fire-breathing guys.
If you tap the dodge button twill and go left, she will, more often than not, duck under the flames or roll over then, avoiding them.

1:45:00 ... nobody there, because it seems to me Senua is walking alone on this volcanic island, visiting destroyed settlements by the volcanic activities, long left alone, maybe running from lava breakouts or earthquakes, but her companions and the giants are all in her mind, the imaginations she experiences due to her schizophrenia along the way.
I really enjoyed this game and played the entire thing in one day. I didn't play the first game, but one thing I've noticed while watching streamers play is that it sounds like in the first game parry was pretty much your super power. You'd just stand there, wait for someone to swing at you then push the 'I win' button. To be fair, that's how it works in recent Assassins Creed games and Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor.
I'm guessing that's why they made parry more difficult in this game. To force you to use other combat styles. You also can't spam the same attack over and over. It will just get blocked all the time. The game forces you to be more aggressive in combat and vary your moves and that makes combat a lot of fun but there's an unlearning curve if you played the first game.
16:45 In a playthrough I watched of the first game Zynbel reminded me of Palpatine with the black cloak.

Rtx 3060 12gb here runs nicely for me at 1440p on quality mode and highest settings averaging 45 fps which is plenty for this

The new gameplay definitely took some getting used to. The fighting was certainly not as satisfying as the first game. But once the mirror came into play it felt better. But the focus fighting should have been the regular gameplay.

just stumbled upon your hellblade 1 videos. glad you decided to share your experience with one of my favorite games and now continue with the sequel ♥ finished it myself yesterday. hope you like it. the first time I heard the voices again I had to cry. it all came back even after 7 years of not playing it.

The game was an amazing experience, i loved every moment of it and the visuals plus facial animations are the best that are currently out there. Shame people turn on subtitles as is detracts from the immersion and dampens the experience. Still, its very special and unique game just as the first one is. Glad to see Julia playing it :)
Small side note - The lore totems and faces you are missing might be due to you using M/K as the mouse causes the camera to snap/jerk around too much. A controller would have been a better choice for this game imo :)
Epic! I came from watching you play FF7R! Hope you'll try other Square Enix action RPGs someday also like Kingdom Hearts 2 now that the games are on Steam with KH4 coming! :)
Play resident evil zero
Visually and in terms of audio design it's probably one of the most beautiful games ever. But if the story isn't engaging in this kind of game, you still won't really remember it.
I really hope it will pick up in the second half because so far I'm not really invested at all.
Personally I think you can feel that the writer and director of the first game left the team when Hellblade 2 was early in development. Because this lacks in terms of storytelling and good writing so far compared to the first one. Kinda figured this could happen but still dissapointing. I really liked the start though. Let's see how this is gonna wrap up.

This isn't a game. This is experience and it is meant to be played at 30 or maximum 45 fps. At 60fps it loses it's all cinematic feeling. More = worse. Sure it plays very well but at cost of something unique.
