A great story and interview of a true legend that hits very close to home, although knowing some of the players personally will change your perspective a little.
I run in NASA (National Auto Sport Association) and I love the evening at the track when I get to sit down and listen to old racing stories! Some of the best times.
Randy! Awesome brother! Looking forward to maybe seeing you before I transition to the other side. Rick and I will be looking for the book to arrive. Stay safe. Rick & Bill
I worked on one of the NASCAR teams funded by weed. We weren't involved in the smuggling, just worked on the cars, but we knew where the money was coming from. Spends the same as legal money on paydays. We never wanted for anything as far as the cars went. Different times back in the 80's
It seems that way now, but during the 80's under the Regan administration, it was a very different story. Ol' Ronny & The US were being overrun with Pablo's Cocaine, so when the US govt announced the War on Drug's, they meant ALL drug's, and right or wrong, Ms Mary Jane was included 😕
@@buckodonnghaile4309 my family made moonshine here in Tennessee. Even have a old newspaper clipping that had some of my family posing with the sheriff and a fed with a huge still. It was pretty much a cat and mouse game to them back then.
I shouldn't be surprised that Randy was connected with Don and Bill Whittington given those guys were involved in even higher stakes smuggling earlier on. Plus they got a bit "creative" shall we say with their endurance racing Porsches.
Hey that guy's got the same Caboflex ear defenders that I love! BRO!! But the fact is that two innocent people died as a direct result of his operations, and he has to live with that fact..
I bet in nascar and many race teams there is a fare amount of drug money funding teams . It wouldn’t surprise me at all . I would believe race tracks have been involved as well . After all nascar was basically formed from guys that ran liquor illegally .
The story is entertaining. The guy broke a lot of laws, did so intentionally, kept it up till he knew he was being investigated, got caught, did some time. Is now out & sharing his story. I assume he is making some money off his story. Do I respect the guy? Not really. Not sure if he seems to accept responsibility for his actions or the effects his choices have had on other people. Did Dale sort of play into the click-bait hype a story like this was going to have? Oh yeah. He did. About 50K views in one day and a lot of posters below saying how cool they find Lanier's story. It's working just like the algorithms / internet marketing predict it will work.
Laws? What laws, the laws your masters make to keep you in line? The fucking government does far worse things and never do time for it. What's funny is you likely vote for them.
That would never happen in racing, drug users and smugglers would be reported immediately. Why just look at what the CART sanctioning group did to the Whittingtons back in the 80s lol
Also with weed being more generally accepted and legal in some places there is almost no chance that another driver gets to fund his career with the weed smuggling game. But thanks to that, Tyler Reddick has funding and can win races and I hope there is more support from weed sponsors in the future.
I'll never understand the support given to guys like this. How many talented drivers never got the breaks because they followed rules and did things right? Yet we praise those who cheat or break laws to get in. I'm not buying his book or giving him any respect. He's a drug dealer that's all.
Yet you took it upon yourself to come to the comment section to blast the host. For what? To what end? What do you possibly hope to gain - or want the host to lose - by doing so? Miserable in your life so you want to nitpick on someone? Only you can change you. Personally, I enjoy Dale Jr's style and his delivery. Call him what you want, but you cannot call him a fake and a phony. And THAT is why millions listen to DJD, watch the YT channels, and tune in to the 99% dull NASCAR Cup races when NBC/USA takes over: the real honest to God play by play, color commentary, and driver speaking from experience.
