He's got a point. Obviously, there are a lot of benefits to social media and even the digital world being created. For instance, in the future med students will be able to perform practice surgeries and get a full look at the human anatomy with things like VR and AR. But everything in life has a balance. And right now our world is out of balance and lives in extremes. People throw themselves away on social media and become consumed by their phones every waking second. Not enough people take the time to meet up with others in real life anymore or really LIVE in the moment when they are with them (the number of times I've been in a public place and everyone is staring at their phones and not talking to one another).
And it's a fact that corporations are literally farming every single detail about us, and using it for their own gains. It gets even more nefarious when you realize how much our news and information are controlled by bots. I also strongly believe that a lot of the fighting we see on social media is actually manufactured. Groups that want cultures to fall apart and fight each other. The point is, that Gerard is right to tap into this feeling of being "free and alive". Concerts are still a magical thing, where people from all walks of life come together in one place to share their love of the same things.
One of my favorite things about concerts (pre-covid), was getting to talk to strangers and make friends at shows. Even if you didn't in contact after the show, it's amazing getting to talk to someone else and share in that bonding experience.

The thing is that it should be on the right places. Social media as an instrument of communication for us. And the feeling of being alive, really living this moment through - at this moment when we wanna actively perceive and experience. And they shouldn't replace each other.
I just know this feeling when you are very much alive, maybe over the normal average level. When you see the leaves in the wind or your cats eyes and you deeply feel the fragile greatness of existence.
I still appreciate nature and performances in my life. When people express themselves through art - it's very healthy and also about being alive, especially when you have that possibility to feel deeply and on the edge.

It's so fucking true though. I'm not even anti-technology in the slightest, but there's a point where it gets stupid. I think back to the MySpace days of social media (and I'm not even just bringing that up because MCR was one of the bands that blew up in same era, there's a point here), when it was just you and your friends making weird posts and sharing photos together. No big money corporations coming in and infesting your feed with ads, your racist uncle wasn't on there spouting his deranged right wing conspiracy theories, nothing. I know it was a pretty good sized company even then, but it wasn't like a huge multi-hundred billion dollar megacorporation on the scale of some of these entities today. Technology was at a perfect balance then when it could enhance your life, but didn't become your life. For all the progress we've made, some things have definitely gotten worse in the past fifteen years.
All of which is a long way of saying fuck capitalists, fuck bigots, and fuck fascists (but I repeat myself). The good news is, even though they may win a few more battles, they're going to lose the war. Demographics are ever changing in our favor. The old die, the young become old enough to vote, reactionary movements rise and then die, and the entire political spectrum continues moving slowly, but surely, in our direction.

Being able to watch clips of this tour on yt has been wonderful for me. I am able to enjoy it. To some degree it almost doesnt feel like dystopia, it feels like a bit like accessibility

It’s clearly supposed to be some kind of commentary on it because it’s something Gerard is vehemently against

in case you geniunely don't know, metaverse is a new thing that Zuckerberg (inventor of facebook) came up with: an augmented virtual reality, that he wants to bring socializing on facebook to a new level with. But it's being marketed in a way that sounds like it's replacing literal reality, and in-person socializing.

@@heyjude6680 but I take it your friend isn’t an addict. Having spent time around recovering and people struggling with alcohol abuse, usually when things seem off it is because they are. Gerard said he sobered up in 17 days and thats not how it works, and anyone going through a program will tell you that. Its not my opinion, but from those I talked to about this who are recovering. Whenever the band is together playing he relapses and his behaviors on stage just make me worry his anxieties are taking over.

@@jimmyjazz133 He still does drugs (weed and nicotine) but we don't know anything about his alcohol use. He did try to quit weed though but relapsed so I wouldn't be surprised if he relapsed in his alcohol use as well.
