  • One day after Brittnee gave birth to her son, Brayden, she learned that the flu she’d been fighting for weeks had developed into bacterial and viral pneumonia. She was put on a ventilator and after nearly two weeks, she became septic and her lungs collapsed.

    Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an innovative, lifesaving treatment. The patient is on ECMO because of a serious illness and the machine does the work for the patient’s lungs and heart, giving the patient time to heal.
