Richard Bushman is truly amazing, I value his approach to explain the touch issues with Joseph Smith.

@AnarchoRepublican I mean Bushman's book, typos. There are also another one by a non-LDS write from about 6 years ago, I don't remember his name, and yes I've read the other books by Brody, and I know the Tanners. I've a convert, I've probably read much more than the average LDS person.

Richard Bushman provides a fresh and invigorating way of looking at Joseph Smith that is full of empathy for the prophet and Mormonism's uniqueness.

Thank you Mr Bushman. My belief in Joseph Smith’s prophetic calling is based on my belief that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Nothing else matters.

ensign Book of Mormon is false. Everything fro history to Biblical scripture to scientific facts prove it to be false. Christ died for your sins, and you repay him by worshipping a false idol and dis-respecting God. Burn in hell :)

How is the book of Mormon true when it cannot be proven true? It can't be the most correct book with no manuscripts and or proof. Truly blessed to know the true Jesus and God through the Bible.

AudiS4 Fastisgood, why would you bother to say these things? Did Christ not say himself that it is through the mouth of two or three witnesses which testify of Him? The Book of Mormon is just a testament witnessing Christ's divinity to the world. If you truly cared to know the book you would have found the truths contained in it does testify of Christ. The dead sea scrolls and many other finds are proving pieces all the time. Proof is available to the true seeker.

Richard Bushman is a person of integrity. I cannot see him covering up anything that may raise questions about Joseph Smith's calling as a prophet. Joseph Smith's life is evidence that the only sure affirmation of his prophetic calling comes from God, just as the Lord Jesus Christ held for his own calling as the Savior of the world.

It's funny how if you're a prophet, you can't do anything else. I wonder if Joseph ever cooked or got into fixing wagon wheels, or whittled any toys from tree branches. By today's standards he might get a citation for "destroying protected woodland" areas. Certainly would disqualify him from being a prophet. I guess digging for treasure is some kind of evil pastime no one with any honor ever would or could do, since you don't need any money if you talk to angels, according to enlightened modern thinking.

    • @donnavaughn9409

looking for treasure which he was hired to do at one time, was an honorable thing, but the Lord told him to stop doing that as many were at that time liars and not the best people. Finding treasure does not mean that he did not find these plates, one has nothing to do w/ the other. Did other men cook, probably when their wife was laid up after delivering a baby. The Lord could have shown Joseph where gold mines were, they might many things, but God doens't work like that most of the time. In order to become what we can become, we are put in positions that allow the real us to come out, it seems hard and such and it is, but that's how we find out who we are.

This is regarding the discussion of how the perspective in the 60s of a treasure seeking Joseph differs from the perspective of how it's viewed today. The following is a metaphor I like to visualize when thinking on how the difference in perspectives changes how we see differing viewpoints. I have most recently thought of different perspectives as though looking at a mountain. If you are looking at a mountain from the north, it is completely different than if you were looking at it from the south. If you tried to explain what you saw to someone looking at the mountain from a different angle, they wouldn't believe you were seeing the same mountain they were. It is only when we either see it from their angle or believe/know they are looking at the same mountain as you that we can understand the different perspectives of the same mountain.

Typical mormon thing: go around and about long-ass examples and metaphors to explain something simple, just to give it an aura of depth. Unnecessarily so.

Like many members I have gone to the direct source Himself- the Lord with sincere REAL intent in my heart to know if the Book of Mormon is true. I share the same loving peaceful warm conviction that millions if not billions by now know. The warm love remains with me.
I love what President Ballard mentions: If you had the ancient golden plates of the Book of Mormon in your hands today (all evidence) would you KNOW they are true? The Lord speaks the truth to individuals whose hearts are humble, obedient and loving toward others. That is His way.
Individuals who criticize, don’t keep His commandments to love one another etc and have a heart full of anger- the Lord withdraws.
I testify with every part of my heart and being that Jesus is the Christ and He and the Lord live.

If I read the Book of Mormon with a prayerful heart seaking truth how do I know wich of the many groups within Mormonism to join? There are many and they all believe the book of mormon to be the word of God and Joseph Smith to be a prophet but there are so many. I'm not sure just because the mainstream lds is the most known and wealthy that it is the correct one.

Great question. The title ‘Mormon’ is not the title of the church. The title is ‘The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.’ The title Mormon is a nickname given by the world.
The missionaries who wear the black tag white shirt and ties with the title “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints “ on their badge is the church you want. I know others have branched out of the Saviors Church with their own ideas and agendas.
      Correct source :

There are local missionaries serving in your area ready to teach of the Savior and answer any questions you may have.

@@shawnajohnson6655 I never said the name of the church was Mormon. I'm well aware of what the office name is. In my question I mentioned the Book of Mormon and to my knowledge it's still called the Book of Mormon. My question was if I feel this book is what it claims how do I know wich denomination to join? So many to choose from and they all believe Joseph Smith to be their prophet.

@@shawnajohnson6655 in my research I have come to the conclusion that it really isn't that simple. Not trying to debate but there are so many that make the same claim all using Moroni's promise as a guide. Same feeling and all. I'm not talking about the polygamist groups but they also use that same method for truth wich leads them to believe they hold the truth. You see how this can be confusing. I'm not convinced that just because the mainstream church is what everyone is familiar with makes it the right one.

I've studied these things since I was 21 in 1973 much more as a convert than most members and there is nothing weird, in fact it's the most normal and closest to the way that primitive church was set up. That extra book of scripture is why I understand who God really is.
