This goes with my belief of "Instead of creating something that fits with the times, create something that is timeless." Not every piece of work, be it movie or game should be geared towards a particular age group. Jak, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, all of the big hitters are universal for a reason.....
Matt is the only one who kinda gets it. It is surprisingly difficult to get a real opinion out of a Japanese person. You ask them a really casual question like "What was your favorite game this year?" you're going to get a really casual answer.
Given what we've experienced of Evil Within, and given what we've seen from RE7, how backwards listening to this is, it's astounding. And I remember this podcast, and nodding at EVERYTHING they're saying.
Capcom: resident evil four but this time your attacking a southern non racist family that has gone crazy , what dose the virus do . make them crazy to the point you can control people .also generic mold monsters, enjoy going through locations like the southern non racist family home , and there home again , and a cave , a ship, and there home again ,and read endless amounts of plot dump that makes the story seem even more like evil within. and pat describes how every bad thing it dose and tells every one to buy this game knowing full well that every thing he describe was a turn off
One guy coined it the "Michele Jordin effect" where a thing can do nothing wrong and ruin it for everyone else by becoming the new paradigm by which all others are juged
CrazyJabberwock in video games, the problem is that big companies are so scared of risk most of the time, you get the capcom effect where they release the same game iteration X a dozen times, or you get the CoD effect where because this game was popular, that means our slightly less polished, later released version will be just as popular, right? game companies aren't the brightest bulbs sometimes.
"When they said they were gonna make the next Resident Evil like The Last of Us, I thought it'd be more forced than this!"- Pat in Two Best Friends Play Resident Evil: Revelations 2
So glad Capcom used this lie as a feint to throw off the law, then commit super hard to survival horror crimes. Even Revelations 2 (which took cues from Last of Us) still went survival horror style.
I feel that these days is really easy to create hype, for good and bad, and because of how fast information flows all these companies are relying too much on fan input and starting too loose their indentity (specially japanese devs) to try to Westernise their formula (to a more cinematic type), instead of the simplicity of solid gameplay (like Nintendo). Not everyone can or should go the weird and experimental route (which i always encourage, even with a chance of big money loss) but there's a balance for innovation and rooting.
"We have to start letting the West know we respect them..."? Do we seriously have to look at this list and have to indentify it with an East-West lense? No one is saying there isn't quality content coming out of Japan, but having an allergic reaction to Japanese developers praising Western games as the best they played for one year just seems a little ridiculous.
I know its late but thay's absolutely how a lot of Japanese devs viewed the video game scene. That's why there was that period where Japanese games were viewed as being "dead". Japanese devs realised that there was a huge market in the West and attempted to capatalize on that by "catering" their games to the West. That's how you end up with shit like Donte May Cry and Yakuza: Dead Souls. Eventually, they caught on to the fact that the West likes Japanese games because they're Japanese and now Japanese games are hotter than ever.
Estraliae I don’t understand why Yakuza: Dead Souls keeps getting ragged on. Donte May Cry is a reboot meant to appeal to a younger audience, Dead Souls is a zombie shooter because Nagoshi wanted to make a zombie shooter, not because he was appealing to the Western Market. Not only that, the game’s pretty good, the reason it has terrible reviews is because the framerate is ducks below 10 extremely frequently. It’s an unplayable mess, but it had heart put into it, and its lack of success is due to a development problem, rather than a concept problem.
“Someone from the east liking something from the west?! He must be lying!” Like is Matt really unable to think that someone from Japan would pick last of us as there game of the year?
i feel like this was the result because japanese developers never took chances out side of japan , capcom doesn't know about it's fan base .......they had that re shooter with just shooters and re 7 , they became waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too one sided on you can't do shit, now how does at all connected with the story when all the virus before the one in re 7 and re shooter because the trailers in re 7 ,re shooter are just generic lame zombie . they all was just do this ass pull make throw in these lame zombies that just melt after a few hits , now it's lame moldy asshole monsters
Thank God we aren't living in this nightmare anymore.
"The era of stealth-action games, that doesn't sound so bad."
OHHHHH BOY.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW.
Fuckin....splinter cell blacklist and ghost recon rage of Africa or whatever
"Time to stop caring and get on the Evil Within hype train."
"Totally."
*_AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!_* Ouch!
They couldn't have known...
I was on that hype train too.
Hindsight is a bitch.
not to mention Pats loving the new resident evil now, what a complete turnaround.
And then Resident Evil 7 came out. Holy shit, the future is so uncertain, isn't it?
0:38 Liam gushes over Devil's Third.
4:33 Matt complains against all the gloom and doom of Japanese developers. Inafune's name comes up.

I want a supercut of the last part where wooolie talsk about shonen followed by him weebing over bnha
OPM is seinen tho

As in, they lie?
That sounds like asking your friend what they like, and they literally can’t answer you with anything specific. A pain i know often.
The first part should be called "Matt's Fear".
6:15 "The output of Japan has dropped calamitously in the past generation" its funny in hindsight because Japaneses games have been killing it lately
There's a typo in the video title, it should say *"Capcpom Fears"*
I've never seen clip from the best friends that aged this poorly
It's so easy to tell this came out before 2017. The year Japan came back!
Given what we've experienced of Evil Within, and given what we've seen from RE7, how backwards listening to this is, it's astounding. And I remember this podcast, and nodding at EVERYTHING they're saying.

and pat describes how every bad thing it dose and tells every one to buy this game knowing full well that every thing he describe was a turn off
Ironically, we are getting even more Japanese style games.
Thanks to those AA leveled games
A few month's later, japan would drop GOTY after GOTY
even now it's still happening!

sounds like the dark souls of video games
"When they said they were gonna make the next Resident Evil like The Last of Us, I thought it'd be more forced than this!"- Pat in Two Best Friends Play Resident Evil: Revelations 2
"Inafune likes to say it a lot"
Were they lies back then too?
Evil Within hype train...that one hurts...
Tensions were high before the capcom comeback.
The fact that re7 happened directly after this makes me laugh so hard
So glad Capcom used this lie as a feint to throw off the law, then commit super hard to survival horror crimes. Even Revelations 2 (which took cues from Last of Us) still went survival horror style.
Thank god this age poorly
Wow they were suuuuuper off about the direction of resident evil after this info

I feel like somebody wished on a monkey paw around this point in time, and Japanese gaming was saved but in exchange we got Trump and Covid.
"We have to start letting the West know we respect them..."?

"There's hasn't been a weird different game that's blown it out of the water yet"
Then Odyssey happened
Odyssey is practically Mario 64 what are you talking about?
wow its the complete opposite nowadays LMAO
“Someone from the east liking something from the west?! He must be lying!”
Like is Matt really unable to think that someone from Japan would pick last of us as there game of the year?
With re 7 out and then already beating it I'll have to go back and watch it to see if capcom actually made it like last of us
Well this one aged badly.
"Matts looking pouty, we gotta let him talk" that statement sums up why Matt broke up the channel
"I understand what the list was." Then why did you just spend your time and energy imperically proving that you don't?
Wait... Capcom... Wut?
I don't see many similarities to Last of Us to RE7
i feel like this was the result because japanese developers never took chances out side of japan , capcom doesn't know about it's fan base .......they had that re shooter with just shooters and re 7 , they became waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too one sided on you can't do shit, now how does at all connected with the story when all the virus before the one in re 7 and re shooter because the trailers in re 7 ,re shooter are just generic lame zombie . they all was just do this ass pull make throw in these lame zombies that just melt after a few hits , now it's lame moldy asshole monsters
Funny that Evil Within 2 too more cues from the Last of Us and it was the cringiest and dumbest shit ever
Matt sounds like that type of weeb that obsesses over Japan and things everything in the west is trash and can never compete
I think Grand Theft Auto V had a better story than The Last of Us. Fuckin' fight me.
HERESY
Revengence had a better one than both.
Wow they were suuuuuper off about the direction of resident evil after this info
