You can here that Monk and the band were really energised to play in front of this audience. This concert is up there with some of his best performances ever.
This is a story of triumph and success in the history of jazz. Jazz is known as an art form that has successful removed racial barriers through out the world. The artists played out the colorless notes to appreciative non colorless audience.
Amazing "1968 the Nation in turmoil". Fast forward 2020, "the Nation in turmoil". But the sound of Monk's team brings joy and hope in the middle of the Storm. Thank you so much for sharing. Can't wait to add another of Monks great CD's to the Monk Library. I think Jazz may be the only music that is best recorded "Live" incredible.
I will strongly have to agree. The book The Life and Times of Thelonious Monk by Robin Kelly is a definite must read IN and OUT of THE JAZZ Community. I learned a lot about him as a person with great stories of his personal life and as a professional how he always made the team better.
October 27, 1968. During the Mexico City Olympic Games. As Nixon ran as the "Law and Order" candidate. The Beatles complete the white album. First European Satellite launched.
The Last Great Monk Quartet: Monk, Charlie Rouse (possibly STILL the most underrated tenor saxman EVER), Larry Gales (double bass), and Ben Riley (drums). RIP one and all.
