My Dad's eldest Brother called Stanley Ratcliffe is burried with older family members in Weaste Cemetery. Stanley was 11months when he died in August 1919, sadly it was the 2nd child my Grandparents ( Thomas and Clara) had lost, Stanley's older Sister Clara died aged 13months in 1917. Clara died during the flu epidemic. Stanley of wasting condition, passing away in the near by hospital. The family moved to Huddersfield, my Grandad worked for the GPO now called BT, where my Dad Thomas Henry ( same name as my Grandad) was born in 1921, followed by Lillian ( Lily) 2yrs later. The family later moved again because of Grandads job to Leeds, where they settled and had 2 more Chidren Albert and Harry. Amazingly my Uncle Harry is nearly 93yrs, planning to be at his Grandaughter Wedding in Spain this Summer, has a full head of hair and as handsome as ever. Cheers
Huge cemetery with some interesting stones. If you don’t follow fellow Scot Ruth Aisling, you should look her up. She recently posted a video about visiting the Commonwealth War Grave Commission workshop and museum in France. So interesting and worth a look for those interested in the CWGC.
Each graveyard has a numbered plot map that ties back to a list of burials. What's concerning is when that is destroyed by fire, flood or rot. It's daunting to recreate.
Wow! Massive cemetery…
So much history. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Glad you enjoyed it
Msaya akong nanood.🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you !! I love getting bits of history like this. Hope Harry has a great time
I could spend hours wandering around there❤
Funny you should say that…. I did :)
I spent an hour wondering around Weaste several years ago taking photos etc. and I don't think I covered half of it !!!
It’s some place. You keep thinking “that must be it” then you see another bit.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video...
Hope you stayed dry through the process.
Cold, wet, but happy. I *could* have gone back to the van for a coat but there was too much to see.
You have good eyes to read those stones from a distance!
You need Garden shoes! Like short wellies, Lol!
I've now got proper wellies in the van :)
Wow, that place is massive. Plenty Commonwealth graves.
The broken column, is a meaning, of a life cut short.
Ahh, brilliant, thanks.
Outstanding
Interesting Graves
And so many of them.
Wow what a place, it's huge!!
And that’s not even half of it!
@@PlacesForThePast 😱 blimey!

I’ve been there before, pre PftP. Need to get back :)
How do people find their relatives graves in such a big place?

I’ve worked at another big cemetery in Salford and their ledgers are amazing. I’ll have to see if I can get back and show you them.
Usually when there is a broken column or such it symbolizes a life cut short.
Ahhh, thank you!
There two survivors from the charge of the light brigade in Weaste Cemetery
Ooh, thanks. More digging required. Not literally :)
My aunt Margaret harris is buried there
