Lovely! My grandparents came over from Cork, in the 19th century. I was born on the SW side of Chicago (almost 65 years ago - EEEK!). To this day, I am just as proud to be "South Chicago Chi-rish" as I am of being of Irish blood. When I was little, I heard of the *ahem* "representatives of the Irish Republican cause" who came to give speeches and hold rallies in local parishes. Ostensibly, they were there to raise money for food and medical supplies, but more than a few local lads went back with them, to fight for "the cause."
My family paternal side is from Cork originally and my great great grandfather went to the US served in the Navy and then came back to Ireland two generations later we are in the Uk and I am a dual national of Ireland and the Uk. So feel very connected to my heritage.
City of Chicago misses you boys. I managed to see one of your last shows at the Irish Center here before the pandemic shut everything down. Hope to see you there again soon
