    I am in awe. This needs to happen legitimately; have mojang work with him.
    It is mind-boggling seeing that view distance. Absolutely incredible. And my goodness it would be so much easier to figure out where I am with landmarks. I wouldnt be afraid to travel 100 miles away from home base.
    Especially trippy with the floating islands that blot out the sun. I wonder what end would look like with endless floating islands in the abyss

      Yes, you can just build a tall tower and use that to find your way home instead of messing with coordinates

      No, Minecraft should not add this. It means you would have to travel much further to load new chunks for each update.

  • @LHInstrumentals
    @LHInstrumentals Рік тому +31

    Its not just about rendering chunks, each chunk is calculated before even being rendered to know what level of Perlin Noise is used which determines the blocks contained in each chunk which then determines what the chunk will even look like. We don't have the computing power to even do this in real-time for this amount of chunks, hence the render distance being capped and why we get heavy lag if tried to extend the cap.
    Other games have long distance rendering because the map was already predefined and not generated in real-time to an infinite scale like Minecraft, the terrains of these games are usually non changeable and not made from calculated Voxels on the fly.
    My guess if this is 'real-time' is that it's based on inaccurate predictions from the current noise levels we have already loaded in, meaning the terrain isn't actually accurate at all, if we had a starting point and moved in 1 direction from said point very far away, once we arrive at the chunks lets say 10,000 blocks away it would look completely different from what it looked like from the starting point. Not that we could tell anyway due to anti-aliasing and horrible graphics at that distance, there isn't enough pixels on your screen to even see that far clearly.
    The way those chunks will be loaded in is by using Fractal & Octree methods which means it would be a repeating Fractal which just keeps repeating already loaded in chunks to 'infinity' we've had this method for years but for a game like this its a completely inaccurate solution. That's why even on the video the terrain just looks exactly the same everywhere you look because its not the real terrain being generated just repeating chunks
    I've worked on voxel engines for years and seen people use these methods in voxel engines. The results look amazing, but it's completely inaccurate

      @@secretchiley he means that there no actual terrain features at such a large scale.
      which make all Minecraft worlds look identical. as they all look like random static from such a distance
      there are plenty of ways to add large scale terrain features.
      like climate bands, continents, oceans, etc. but those don't exist
      it's just effing perlin noise at larger scales.

    • @justsk8n659
      @justsk8n659 Рік тому +119

      @@uniquename6925 Minecraft did try to do a continental based world generation in the early days, but what ended up happening was that the farther out from spawn you got, the more likely it was to be Ocean, which just led to infinite water. I think the perlin noise works perfectly fine, as while what you are talking about would be pleasing to look at in these "entire world rendered" imgs, it just wouldn't be a good feature for normal minecraft. You literally would not be able to tell from the actual world floor, and it would lead to less potential diversity in the minecraft experience. Minecraft is made with the whole idea in mind that 99% of players aren't going to travel more than like, 50k blocks *max* away, and most of the time will just stick in a small several thousand block area. As such, it's more important to make that area diverse (ie, any Biome can spawn and you can usually find a large amount of Biomes after only a small amount of time) than to try and do stuff on that large a scale.

      I have written a plugin that can do it by linking multiple servers and only limited by the computational power you can throw at it (and global things like chat and figuring out where a player should be when joining). It's imperfect, you can't place blocks and hit things across servers, and there are dupe glitches when entities move across. But this could be remedied in the future with a custom server or standalone game, so there's a chance you could see this in action in the future. Speaking from a person who has done a tiny bit of dev work for the BTE server.

If this video demonstrates anything, it's that Minecraft would benefit greatly from having LOD implemented, raising the game's performance significantly. I like the vanilla plus shaders that both look good and run smooth enough that the performance impact is negligible. Too much detail and it stops looking like Minecraft.

    Reminds me of the Distant Horizons mod. I mean it's a bit worse, not being able to render EVERYTHING, but it can still render enough to feel realistic and awesome. I highly recommend checking it out, it has a lot of compatible versions, including 1.19.

    3:42 i was shocked when I go to know this !!! How does a game engine like this, relying on procedural generation, doesn't have autoLOD generation. Fortunately, someone made a MOD on this (distant horizon) but this definitely should be a part of the engine. Like you showed in the begning a lot of game engines support that

    I started minecrafting from pre-0.9 PE many, yrs ago had to convince my aunt to buy it for me. I got hyper into minecraft during the 1.7 era because of mods, specifically the Too Much TNT mod showcased by PopularMMOs, 4th grade me was obsessed with TNT. Back when my comp would be hot enough to cook eggs if you're brave enough to set the render distance past 6 chunks

    WHAT A BUEAUTIFUL FUCKING VIDIEO. Dude this was incredible, you put way more effort into this than this type of video would have needed, most people would have just shown the render and explained why its hard but you went so much further, you explained why its beautiful and hard to do, the unique possibilities, the shaders, and the struggles. the music you used worked so well with the shots and b-roll you chose, i really cant just compliment you enough. this is the first time I've seen any of your videos and I honestly avoided the video because I thought it was going to be a generic low effort UA-cam video chasing the algorithm, but it wasn't, bravo man, you just got a new sub and well deserved
