I recall the day Donnie Hathaway passed. January 13, 1979. I was in St. Gallen Switzerland on a 6 months tour with Howard University performing RAISIN. We received the news after a performance at the Stat Theater. Everyone in the cast just cried. Donnie Hathaway meant the world to us. Many singers were influenced and copied his style of singing. Like Sam Cooke he died young and owned his music and powers to be wanted to control it.. R.I.P. King Donnie Hathaway. Love you man..
she has an angelic voice even when speaking. Lalah Hathaway is one of the great underrated vocalists of our time. thanks for featuring this Queen. Also check out the great movie score that Mr. Hathaway did for "Come Back Charleston" a really fun and interesting listen for Donny fans
Ooo‼️ I’m SO glad you asked if her dad knew she could SING! I WISH he could have heard her‼️ He would just be sooooo IMPRESSED‼️ She is just SO done…..
Karen, thank you so much for sharing the fantabulous Layla Hathaway with us today. I remember seeing Donny Hathaway (a Libran)on Soul and was mesmerized as he presented us with the musical gem... "The Ghetto." I am still speechless, when I hear the ballad, "A Song for You."
Her father was no doubt a legend and as great as he was....lalah there are no words for her. the things she can do vocally (for example singing 2 pitches at once) she makes ones jaw drop.
Now see there Karen... you done done it now. We appreciate you asking Lalah Hathaway. To as we black folk say... to sang for us. Gave a brother the chill’s. Good lookin out sister Karen.
I love, love, love me some Donnie Hathaway that is 1 of my favorites by him. Not too mention I share that same love for his offspring! Last time I 👀 her was @ Aretha Franklin Theater (Chene Park) in Detroit. I feel so deprived not being able too attend concerts 🤦.....
Miss Karen , First it was food. Now it is music. I suppose it would be anything that is most near and dear to your heart that makes your eyes shine like that. It simply cracks me up to witness it at those times.
I'm a day late, better late then never. I heard lailah at the Hollywood bowl a few years ago, her father must have been channeling through her, because the note she hit was not of this earthly realm. It made me stop and ask everyone around me, did you hear that sound? Also saw her at South Africa's jazz festival. Out a this world voice.
I've never seen her live, but there's a video with her singing a Donald Lawrence song and there are a number of parts where she sounds so much like Donny, it's scary.
The kind of voice that makes you stop what you’re doing when you hear it.
Touché.....
Exactly....Donnie's song He ain't Heavy He's my brother can bring tears to your eyes unconsciously
@@abdulraheem415 My sentiments exactly, what 👇 said ✌......
Oprah said, "You get out of life what you have the courage to ask for." Prof. Hunter asked and Lala graciously gave.

She looks like she 25
I cringed, a little, when you pushed for her to sing but what a gift she gave (however reluctantly) out of respect for you and us 👏🏽
i hesitated...but that gift is to be shared.
@@KarenHunterShow You are a treasure Ms. Hunter!! All the infinite wisdom you shower the masses with kudos too you.....
