I'd have loved an ending, where L was responsible for catching Kira in a long run, with the new team in run, following L's clues every once in a while. Like the final strategy to put Kira down, even if he had to die for it.
That would be the true reason for him to smile while passing out.

The series would have been better if L had faked his death honestly.
But then again, I wonder how he would have gone about it. Maybe have two names that he considers to be his real names?
After all, names are decided by birth, and sometimes people change their own name. That new name becomes their real name.
Surely killing watari was enough for REM to have turned into dust, but she wrote his name fast enough as well. Killing Watari she slightly lengthened Misa's life. Even if it was only a little.
Maybe L could have decided to legally change his name whenever Watari presses the Red button. That way he could verify his own identity as a different person, and elude the death note.
Or he could make it so whenever he's about to die, he could press a button to remotely change his legal name.
Or perhaps names are just self acknowledgement of what one is called, so he doesn't even require legal name changing.
A name... Is something different for each person.
For some its the thing given to them at birth.
To others, it is what they are called by others.
But sometimes people don't acknowledge the names given to them by others. Like if someone called you a loser and you ignored them.
Perhaps it can even be what the person currently acknowledges their name as.
In the case of the last one, L would have been invincible constantly changing his name and acknowledging each new one as his own.
It would have forced REM to write several names, and she would have turned to dust from killing Watari by then.
If this wouldn't work because she already wrote his name before he could change it...
Simply legally change your name every few miliseconds.
I can just imagine the terrified face of Misa, as she looks over L's head, and its constantly changing at a rapid pace.

I'm not a great expert in sound engineering, but I think there's bit too much reverb with the drums (wich are kinda flat imo).
I like that key change and outro, but with just 2 more chords it could have been more effective. Good job tho.
